Natalie crouched down and handed it to him. There was a plastic spoon sticking out of the ice cream. "You can either drink the soda or eat the ice cream, first. But I like having the ice cream, first." She smiled, then stood up, and began doing just that with her own float.
"The free rent is nice, yeah, but somehow, I think the expense of taking care of kids... will make up for it. Plus I'm still paying twenty five percent of the rent at my old apartment - my... friend is staying there, and since he's just getting used to working, I agreed to help him pay the rent. For now."

Gavin gleefully took his cup, grabbed the spoon, and dug into the mix of root beer and ice cream. Delicious! This root beer stuff would have to be on the next list of things Mommy went to go get from the store. She never took him there, and for good reason. He'd probably end up trying to touch and taste everything, leaving Remi to pay for the damages. That, and bringing a kid with wings into public places wasn't that common of an occurrence.
"The free rent is what saved me from living in a cardboard box," Remi laughed, being a rebel and drinking the soda first. She was never really a fan of root beer, but for the sake of politeness and ice cream she'd tolerate it.
"So what have you been up to lately?"

"Dealing with romance issues, mostly. Relaxing, now that that part of my life is settled for now. I never realized how nice it is, not having to worry about that sort of thing."
While she didn't necessarily want to be single all her life, it was a nice alternative to all the confusion.
"Other than that, all I've been doing is designing and sewing. Taking walks. Not much else."

Seeing that Gavin was too busy devouring ice cream and root beer, Remi took another sip of her own and focused on the conversation.
"Romance issues? I've yet to deal with any of those," she said with a grateful tone. Well, technically she didn't have romance issues. Stephan wasn't really an 'issue'...yet. She hoped he wouldn't turn out to be one. Romantic drama was not on her list of things to do. Though, she was slightly curious in the drama of others. "If it's not too much to pry, do you mind me asking what happened?"

"... I..." She thought. How best to word this? Remi didn't need to know everything.
"I've made a few mistakes, recently. In the types of guys I've dated-" using the term loosely, of course- "and how I've acted with them. The first was a disaster. The second... there might have been a chance, if I hadn't been so judgemental."
She shrugged, sipping at her soda. "But that's all over, now, and I've decided to just move on. Learn my lessons and keep on going, right?"

"Exactly," Remi smiled reassuringly. It looked like whatever the girl had been through, it had been rough. Remi did not envy her. Though, some romantic drama might do her good eventually. She was a bit naive when it came to dealing with men and bad relationships.
"I'm just hoping that I don't make many mistakes in my hopefully upcoming love life," she took another sip of root beer before finally deciding to attack the ice cream. "I never really dated in high school or college."
She wasn't sure why she was sharing all this with Natalie, but then again this was girl talk. With her old friends they would always talk about this kind of thing, and then proceed to make fun of Remi and her lack of contributions to the romantic discussions.

"Actually.... those two were my first relationships. And were within the span of... two, three weeks? Yeah. Wasn't a good choice.
"So - who's the lucky man?" She sat down in a chair, making a motion for Gavin to come over. She should get used to kids sitting on her lap, right?
"Oh - Stephan? You two were pretty close the last time I saw you. Down by the school. He's a cutie, but he seemed a little bit too... self centered when I met him. But we only talked for a little bit, so my opinion's probably a little skewed, huh?"

Remi blushed. "Was it that obvious?"
Over the course of time since she had that dessert with Stephan, she found herself thinking about him more. She'd had crushes before, so at first she dismissed the feelings as one of those. However, this was one crush she wanted to actively pursue. Big first for her on that one.
"We ran into each other one night and he invited me out for dessert," she stared intently at the floating ball of ice cream in her cup, her face still red with embarrassment. To ease her own tension, she laughed. "Yeah, he is cute, isn't he? I don't know what he thinks about me though, so I can only hope it turns into something more."
Gavin had just finished the ice cream and had started on the soda. Root beer. New favorite drink EVER. Noticing Natalie's motions, he toddled his way over to her, holding up both arms with his cup so that she could lift him to her lap more easiliy.

Smiling, she lifted Gavin up and sat him down on her lap, looping one arm around his back to keep him steady and picking her cup up with the other.
"Er, no, I mean. Just... I was assuming it was somebody else who lived here. And out of the guys here, you seemed closest to that one. Yeah." Sip.
"I hope things go well for you two," she said, smiling. "It sounds like there's a lot of good things ahead. With any luck."
Natalie was devoid of crushes at the moment, except for that still-lingering attraction to Thorn. And even that was fading. It would've been nice, yes, to have such a nice looking, stable relationship looming in the future, but at this point, Natalie wasn't going to push it.
Changing the subject! "Now, Gavin - how about, whenever you come over here, I make us root beer floats. Think that's a good idea?"

((I'm assuming there's another chair nearby))
"Well you're a good guesser then," Remi smiled sheepishly and made her way to sit in another chair near Natalie's. She blushed a bit again at the her sentiments. "Thank you."
Gavin looked up at Natalie at the mention of more of these float-thingymabobbers. He liked them a lot, and would definitely want more.
"Yes!" he flung his arms up in the arm in agreement, forgetting that he was holding a cup that still contained soda. As a result, the soda went flying...
((I'll let you decide where xP ))

All over the one area of the room that had a carpet and an upholstered couch.
...
Well, she'd already gotten dried-up make-up all of it before. She'd live. And she was planning on getting a new couch, anyway. Luckily, the back of the couch had shielded that skirt thing.
She laughed, putting her hand on Gavin's arm and putting it back down, before the remaining soda dripped onto them.
"Well, I'll be sure to have soda and ice cream always over here. Okay? But you have to promise never to throw it across the room like that again." That... had sounded so maternal. She wondered where that had come from. If she could continue to act like that.
She glanced over at Remi. "You're welcome," she said, a bit belatedly.

Remi smacked a hand to her forehead when she saw the soda fly.
"I'm really sorry. He does stuff like that alot. Do you need help cleaning it up?"
She was already standing again, surverying the room for paper towels should Natalie say 'yes.' Gavin blinked, knowing he messed up somewhere in between the past thirty seconds. Looking back down into his cup, he saw that most of the soda was gone. Not even enough to take a final sip.
"Okay," he said to Natalie with a guilty look on his face. "More ice cream next time?"

"Uh, no, it's fine - that carpet is pretty resilient. And I'm planning on getting a new couch, when I can afford it, anyway. Besides - I've already gotten disturbing amounts of make-up out of various parts of this apartment...."
She smiled at Remi, waving at her to stay in her seat. "But thanks!"
Back to Gavin.
"Okay, I'll put two scoops next time. But that means less soda. 'Kay?" And with that, she gave the boy her own cup, half empty. "No spilling this time, 'kay?"

Still hesitant, Remi made her way back into her own chair. She'd been so used to cleaning up toddler messes that it was almost a reflex. Still, she felt she had to apologize again.
"Sorry, it's just that Gavin can never seem to leave an apartment in the same condition as he entered it. He's left a permanent tomato sauce stain on Dacian's wall. He's broken a priceless antique of Marc's. And now he's got root beer all over your carpet."
Gavin, oblivious to the fact that he had indeed caused all of the chaos, reached up for Natalie's cup. Tipping the glass all the way into his mouth, he gulped down the rest of the soda. When he was done he set the cup in his lap and smiled with a frothy ring around his mouth.
"No spill!"

Natalie laughed. "I hope my kid isn't like that..."
She patted Gavin on the head, taking the glass from him and putting it on the table. "Very good, Gavin! I think you'll definitely get two scoops next time, for being such an awesome drinker. And maybe I can get cookies, too!"
Natalie smiled over at Remi, giving Gavin a hug. "Do you want to look at fabrics, or do you trust my judgement? It won't be anything delicate, that's for sure. And I'll make sure everything is washable."
Suddenly, Natalie's eyes lit up.
"Oh! I'm planning a party, with Dacian's help. Do you know anybody who'd be good at helping to set up a large thing? It's gonna be a costume masquerade..."
