Jen laughed... "Well that settles that." He started to unfold the blankets on the sofa making sure that each one was sound and minus holes... "And it settles other things as well... I'll be back with some food and some general supplies for you three." He started looking at the towels quickly... "You'll have to think of a name for her, she hasnae got one yet.... and the best part is, if she starts fussing again you wonnae be kept up all night." Jen smiled kindly at Banda and the girl. "honestly ... she's not been like this at all... not even once." ...

Banda's eyes widened, and he quickly protested, shaking his head. "Oh, but--" He paused, silenced by a little hand placed upon his bottom lip once more, and glanced down at the little girl. She was smiling... Smiling up at him with that sheer adoration only children could manage. It was a look he had always hoped to earn from Venoch, and here.. This girl...
He sighed in resignation, but smiled as well. How easily he was suckered into these things. Nonetheless, he tried once more, glancing up to Jen and half-heartedly attempting a protest. "But, what about Venoch...?"

Jen thought about the punctures in his back... it wouldn't be good to leave a small child in a place where she could be attacked by the insane Smo... but....
"If I know you you wonnae let anything happen to her... " and he wouldn't. In fact it might be good for Banda and Ven to learn to care for someone who actually needed care and stability... it might help them with whatever it was that they needed. Jen smiled at Banda.
"You'll be good. I just ken it."

Of course he wouldn't let anything happen to her! Not if he had any say in matters... But that would mean keeping the girl around him at all times until Ven calmed down, if he ever calmed down.. At least until she was older.
Banda found that he didn't mind the thought so much.
The decision had been made for him. He couldn't have said no if he wanted to. And, really, despite the risk of Venoch, he didn't. This... This little orphan, this little girl, she was his second chance. Maybe life could be almost normal now. Smiling in a resigned sort of way, he nodded, watching fondly as the girl attempted to pull the button off his time-worn coat. "...I guess... I guess I could try..."

Jen didn't reply. He didn't need to since Banda was staring at the child, and wouldn't hear him anyway... He did three things at once. He smiled at Banda and the child, he found himself glad that the child was no longer in his personal care, and he also found himself feeling guilty that he felt that way.
He just held up a hand in farewell and glanced up the stairs. He didn't know how Venoch would react to the prospect of a small child taking up banda's time and whatnot, but he didn't care. His own son and possibly even his boyfriend would be waiting for him back at the new HQ. Of course Jen wouldn't leave Banda and the child (and Ven he supposed) highg and dry without propper food and supplies... but it would be nice to get back to his own family.
As he turned the two larger scratches in his back throbbed slightly. He made a mental note to have Dan look at them next time he saw him....

Banda said nothing further for a long moment. He had no reason to. The resulting conversation was one of smiles and laughs on the young's man part, whereas the little girl was quite happily babbling on in nonsensical words to her new friend. He couldn't understand her, she couldn't understand him, a smile was the world between them, and so that was how Banda would communicate for the time.
It finally occurred to him that Jen was still there, and, looking up, Banda grinned sheepishly in apology. "Sorry. I...think we'll be just fine. I'll worry about getting her settled tomorrow, I think. It's already getting a bit late, and tonight is get-to-know-you time. ...Thank you for this chance, Jen," he added after a pause.

Jen smiled. "You deserve it." And he turned and headed back for the Hq he lived in. He specifically remembered telling Jim to go to bed... which meant that Jim was probably jumping on his bed right at that moment....
He sighed to himself as he trecked the last few steps up the path and then onto the porch, and then into the house... he wished Dan were there right then...

In fact, Dan had arrived while Jen was off exploring the lights across the lake. When a quick search of the HQ had turned up only a hyperactive Jim bouncing on his bed upstairs, Dan decided Jen had merely stepped out and would be back shortly and, naturally, did what every good, responsible guy-dating-Dad would do. He started jumping on the bed too.

Jim was in heaven... When Dan arrived and found him jumping on his bed he thought for sure that he was busted... but now? He flung himself up towards the ceiling and flipped in mid air, not quite landing on his feet, but comming really close. "You see that? I did a flip!" acting crazy was his element, and he loved it... ... ... Too bad Jen didn't.
Jen stretched his shoulders and tried to adjust the shirt, but the material was caked to his back with the blood from the scrathes. There wasn't that much blood and the scratches weren't that deep, but it was enough to make him wince and quit trying to move his shirt. He decided that the short could stay stuck to his back for the moment. He rounded the doorway at the bottom of the stairs and started upwards, but he stopped momentarily as he heard his son laughing... god he loved that kid, but... ... ... But what? Didn't he jump on the bed when he was younger? ...
"Jim! If you break that bed then you'll have to sleep on it that way!" He stepped into the doorway and peered into his son's room... to see his boyfriend AND Jim jumping up and down on the multicoloured quilt.
His face registered annoyance for a breif second, and then shock at seeing Dan, and then he smiled at the two of them, and finally he laughed... a tired laugh, but certainly heartfelt. His two favourite people having hun together.

"Well done!" Dan praised, debating a flip of his own and quickly deciding against it. As it was, he was taking small jumps alrady for fear of breaking them bed. Such a stunt would certainly break something; whether the bed or his back was yet to be seen. "You're braver than I am."
Jen's voice sounded from the hallway, and Dan was in the process of hopping down from the bed as his boyfriend appeared in the doorway, the picture of innocence just a moment too late. He sent a grin of greeting towards Jen, then, falling into the role he probably should have taken upon arrival, turned back towards Jim, patting the bed. "One last flip and down you go. Your dad looks tired, don't want to be keeping him up. Time for bed."

Jim jumped three more times and flipped once before letting himself fall onto his rear end and bounce to a slow stop... he wanted to keep jumping on the bed all night, but he wouldn't. Dan had said to stop and so he would... and he had also said that Jim was brave... He was grinning from one large monkey ear right on over to the other one.
Jen stepped into the room with a happy grin and grabbed Jim's head in between his hands. "You shouldn't do that, but that was a nice flip." Then he planted a kiss on Jim's forehead, picked him up, and plunked him back down at the top of the bed. In a few swift moments Jen had his son under the covers and tucked away ready for bed. He had to turn his back to Dan to do it, and he wondered if the red streaks showed through the shirt, but he trusted Dan not to say anything until they were out of the room. "Night Kid." He smiled down at Jim.
"Night Dad..." Jim was still smiling. .... Brave... Nice Flip.... "Night Dan."

Dan dutifully applauded the performance, sending an impudent grin sideways to Jen when the other SM joined him at the bedside, and let his hands fall while Jen tucked his son in. However, the moment Jen's back was to him, Dan tensed frowning momentarily before he caught himself and fixed a smile on his face once more for Jim's benefit.
To prevent the boy from worrying, Dan backed towards the door and, once Jim was settled, flicked the light off, visible in the light streaming from the hallway as he waved in reply. "Sleep well, Jim." The darkness was enough to hide the stains on his back as Jen retreated back towards the door. Dan stepped into the hall after him, closed them door behind them both, and immediately frowned, resting a hand on Jen's uninjured shoulder and turning him so that he could examine the tears in his shirt. "What the hell happened to you?!"

Jen laughed and tried to turn around to face Dan, but the other man's hands pulled at the shirt and he kept himself still. "Nice to see you too. Actually, I was just thinking about you and wishing you were here." He glanced back over his shoulder and smiled. "I really was."
"I was over at the other Hq to see Banda, and Venoch attacked me as I came though the front door... I think he got me good." He winced again as Dan pulled at the shirt slightly. "The shirt's stuck, dinnae pull on it." He laughed nervously. "It hurts."
He didn't know why he was so wierd. Here Dan was trying to help him and he was being strange. "Thanks for not making Jim worry. He'll be long enough getting to bed without having his imagination run wild."

Dan sighed, torn between a smile for Jen's words and a frown for the stain on his back. He settled for leaning forward to meet Jen in a brief kiss, only a moment later pulling back to return his focus to the splashes of dark red. "Funny, I was thinking the same thing."
Sighing once more, he stepped to Jen's side and looped an arm around his waist, steering him back towards the stairs. "It's hard to see how bad it is with your shirt in the way. Do you have a first-aid kit or something? We'll wet the blood down with a rag and get your shirt off, then I can patch you up. You've mentioned Venoch before... That demon thing, huh?"
Chuckling softly, he shrugged, glancing up to Jen with a smile. "The last thing Jim needs is to start play-fighting tigers when he's supposed to be sleeping. Hopefully the jumping'll have tired him out a bit... Sorry about that, by the way."

Tigers sounded about right. "Naw. He does it every night. I'm actually kind of glad that you joined him... I always wish I could let myself." He sighed and pointed them into the kitchen. Once there he reached up into the cupboard above the stove and pulled out a shoebox full of first aid stuff. It looked like it had been peiced together from several slightly used kits, but it also seemed to have all the essentials.
"I did my fair share of bed jumping when I was smaller. I was obsessed with superheroes." He smiled as he turned a chair around backwards and sat down resting his chin on his crossed arms, leaving his back exposed and handy. "I used to fight creatures like Venoch in my dreams..." He thought for a moment. "Aye. I guess you could say he's your nephew... what with being your brother's brother's ward and all." He smiled. "Attacked my by boyfriend's much younger nephew." It was a silly statement, and it made him smile... but he didn't quite know why.... maybe it was saying the word boyfriend out loud...
