"Err, Julian. Okay, I'm sorry." He hadn't meant to use a familiar nickname, he thought that was his actual name! It didn't look like the man was blaming him, though, so Aph decided to veer off that subject before he said something improper again. He turned to look at the PJ-wearing woman. "What's social butterfly mean?" he asked, having honestly never heard that expression before.
Rivener also felt a kinship to Vyn closer than that which he had felt with either Gage or Lazarus. At the same time, he was displeased with her being female. It was a strange mix of emotion. He wondered why she hadn't introduced herself, or said anything. Perhaps she was shy, or overly proper, like some of the ladies in those old movies?
"My name is Rivener," he said, voice flowing like honey. "And you, I take it, are Vyn?" he asked, recalling that Gage had called her that. "You've met before?" he asked Gage, looking over at him. Perhaps that's why he jumped in the bushes: he disliked women?

"It means," Julian began, adjusting his glasses with one hand. "That I am supposedly very interested in talking with other people. That I am extremely social, and would wish to have a lot of friends or people to be around."
He lowered his hand, frowning deeply in Shuura's direction before turning a full blown glare onto Aphismet. He allowed the glower to settle in, making sure there was no mistaking it for a mere frown or look of distaste. "Do you think I am anything like a social butterfly, Mr. Asphismet?"
The answer to that question was very clear.
Gage simply floated for a moment, looking straight at Vyn for the duration. He kept his distance, as though he could sense the connection between the other two himself. The situation was nothing short of entirely awkward.
"She does not talk," the green Frei offered with a small shrug. His loose end whirled vigerously, and he seemed a little startled at the sound of the other male's voice. Gage had not yet met a Frei that was so articulate.

Shuura flopped down onto the bench that Julian had vacated, losing interest in the scene already. "Correction. She does talk. Sometimes." she eyed her recalcitrant Frei. "...Occasionally. When the situation calls for it. If you're lucky."
Vyn ignored everyone else and focused on the red-black being that resembled herself so much. "...Vyn." Vyn confirmed with just the slightest tinge of shyness. She lowered her lashes and her lips moved into a prideful almost-smile, more like a smirk. "My name...is Vyn." The thought made her...proud.
Shuura gawked briefly at Vyn and then tossed her hands in the air. "Fine then. She just doesn't talk to me," she clarified, then slouched unconcernedly into a lazed-back position on the bench that should not have been humanly possible for anything that actually had a spine.
"Of course you are, Jules," Shuura drawled out, referring to the question he had posed, even though it had not been directed at her. "Everybody loves you. The masses cheer your name when you step out the door." It was late, she was sleepy, and the sarcasm meter was building dangerously high. It didn't help that she was also getting hungry. She almost started wishing that she could feed off shadows like Vyn, if not for the fact that it seemed so incredibly boring.

Aphismet panicked, but tried to hide it. Why was this Julian fellow glaring at him?! Aph wasn't the one who had called him a social butterfly, it was the woman! Why didn't he direct that ungodly scowl at HER? He had been about to blabber something incohenrent when the girl, Shuura, drew the attention to herself by sliding onto the bench. Grateful for something else to focus his attention on, Aphismet turned his entire body away from Julian, towards Shuura. He didn't mean to be rude, of course, but it might be considered just that.
"You look like you're sleep-walking... You got woken up?" He chuckled slightly, hoping she wouldn't take offense at HIM because her Raevan had decided to speak to his.
Aph cursed his luck of having run into these people. He did want to meet other Keepers and see how they handled their charges, but he was so darned clumsy around people... He just didn't mix well with others.
Rivener smiled. Apparently, she DID talk. Apparently, it was also a big deal. This last made him rather proud, and he instantly decided that woman or not, he would tolerate this Raevan girl. "Pleased to meet you," he purred, bowing low like in the old movies he had watched, where he had learned to speak. "Are you and Gage friends?" he asked, not wanting the green Raevan to feel left out of the conversation. Not to mention, Rivener would rather talk to the intriguing green male than to a female, even if it WAS a female he didn't dislike.

Julian offered Shuura a small smile at her words. It was not that he found it at all amusing, but her Raevan had just talked. There was a small possibility she was not completely hopeless as an owner afterall. That deserved at least the smallest look of approval possible.
"It isn't very often that children will be too kind to their parents," the young scientist said lightly, moving to take a seat on the bench. He made sure there was more than enough room in case the fellow with his foot in his mouth cared to join them. "I would not take it personally, if I were you."
He paused shortly. "She does seem rather tired, doesn't she?"
There was no large reaction from Gage when Vyn spoke. He was neither jealous, nor paticularly impressed. It was simply that he knew she would get around to speaking when she felt like it. Her voice was almost exactly what he imagined it would be, if more realistic.
The green Frei stretched his arms upwards, not at all bothered by how positively ghostly he looked by the light of the moon and lamp post. It wasn't something he had been taught to notice. The strange imagery was ruined when he nearly lost his balance entirely at the other male Raevan's question. "Friends? Oh. No. We are not. Vyn is too... I am..."
He gestured with both hands between himself and the female Frei, hoping that two and two could easily be put together to equal four.

"No, I'm not sleep-walking, and yes, I got woken up," Shuura muttered in reply to the poor guy who was on the recieving end of one of Jules' infamous death glares. She threw a death glare of her own at Vyn, who ignored her completely. "Appearantly, flower-twit here wanted to go out at 1 AM in the morning, so to make a long story short....here we are." She yawned widely, then rolled her eyes at the flaming-haired guy in front of her. "Oh, puh-leez, Jules, spare me. I'm too young to be a parent, and definitely don't plan on becoming one anytime soon. As long as Vyn doesn't call me mom or whatever, and stops waking me up in the middle of the night when I've had less than 4 hours of sleep for the past 3 days, I could care less if she doesn't talk to me." She found Jules' smile to be slightly disconcerting. It was like drawing a french moustache on Da Vinci's Mona Lisa--while amusing, it just didn't belong there.
Vyn's eyes became half-lidded as she listened to the other Raeven's sultry voice. Like the flowery pink Raeven she had met at the festival, it was pleasant to listen to, but in a different kind of way. Melisande's voice was light and airy. This voice was deeper and more honey-like.
"--Oh. No. We are not. Vyn is.... I am..."
Gage's voice interrupted her thoughts. She turned to face the floating green Frei briefly, wondering what he was trying to say. When he trailed off, she decided she would complete the sentence herself.
"...the same." She finished, although her gaze was on Rivener. "We are the same."
Shuura cocked her head in Vyn's general direction, curiosity piqued in spite of herself. She'd never heard Vyn utter a word since the Matsuri, and was enchanted at the smooth velvety softness of Vyn's voice. It was lower than what one might expect of a female's voice, but alluring all the same. Vyn seemed to be getting along well enough with the two, although she didn't seem to like Roux quite as much. Every rose has it's thorn, though, just like every scorpion has it's sting, she remembered, and kept an eye out on Vyn's shadow to note any possible changes, just in case.

"Oh, uh, I'm sorry to hear that," Aphismet muttered at the poor girl's predicament, keeping his eyes on his shoes, shifting slightly in place. He seemed to have met the two worst people he could have picked... He truly hoped the other Raevan owners weren't like this, or Aphismet would die of embarrassment. Everything he said was wrong. Finally he decided it was probably best if he stopped talking altogether, so he clamped his mouth shut and forced a friendly smile despite his anxiety. It wasn't very convincing.
Rivener looked from one Raevan to the other, as Vyn completed Gage's sentence. He wondered if she was indeed talking of the same thing Gage had? If they were the same, why would Gage be so scared or nervous around her? Thinking it was a legitimate question, Riv decided to ask it. "If you're the same, why is Gage afraid?" he said looking mostly at Gage.

Out of the three, it appeared as though Julian was the most pleased and laid back. That was something quite odd in and of itself, though the mad scientist for one was not going to question it. The circumstances were strange, he was somewhat tired himself, and it had been rare as of late for anyone to catch him in a state of good humor. Death glares and all, Aphismet was recieving a rare display of leniency, what with his fear of Gage.
"There are different roles one can play," he stated suddenly, tilting his head just slightly to the side. "The parent, the guardian, the owner. Some may use them as synonyms, but they differ greatly. The truly adept attempts a combination of the three."
Gage was struck momentarily silent by Vyn's words. While her attention seemed to be on the other male Frei, he was still touched at the concept. They were nowhere near similar, but the idea that all of the Raevan were the same was enchanting. Terribly untrue, but delightful all the same.
"Vyn..." Gage murmured, gaze lowering to his very green, very odd hands. Once again, it was Rivener who jolted him out of his private thoughts. The unicorn Raevan's head lifted a little, and his eyes were on anything but the other two as he spoke. There was a dash of darker green across what could be seen of his face, and it might have very well been something like an ashamed blush. "If I touch Vyn, she is hurt. She is part plant."

Shuura couldn't help but snort in a very un-ladylike laughter. "Vyn, a plant. What I wouldn't give to just plant her in a pot and be done with it." Of course, she didn't mention that none of the plants she'd ever attempted to keep in her dorm had lived for longer than two weeks. "She has the soul of a plant, doesn't make her one. Kind of a pity." She cocked a head at Aphismet. "What kind of is yours? Julian had some kind of goo and a unicorn, I think? And Vyn, appearantly, had some kind of shadow essence." It was kind of had to tell what Rivener was, though.
Vyn, sensing that Shuura was talking about her, drifted by to where Shuura was sprawled on and settled down in the shadow cast by the bench. Unlike her guardian, she felt fully renewed at the moment and closed her eyes briefly to savor the darkness of the night, the Rose adorning her hair blooming even more magnificently than before.

What Julian had said was intriguing. Owner, Guardian, and Parent? Aphismet wondered which one he was being right now... None of the above, probably. He was being Confused Onlooker most of the time. Still, that short sentence from the mad scientist got him thinking.
Aphismet was startled at being adressed, just now that he had decided to keep his yap shut. Still, answering a simple question should be ok, as long as he didn't say more than needed.
"Erm, Rivener is made from a Rock of Night or something like that, and an old scorpion. Erm, my pet scorpion to be exact. It was kinda an accident..." He shut his mouth, realizing he was going off on a tangeant again.
Rivener watched Vyn suddenly float away as though tired of their conversation. Oh well, she was still within hearing distance, and since she was a female Riv didn't have the urge to stand TOO close. He turned to Gage and tilted his head.
"She hurts? Because she's made of plant? Is that why you were nervous with me? Don't worry, I'm not a plant." Rivener smiled fetchingly.

"Radioactive goo with the soul of a unicorn," Julian said sharply, eye following Vyn as she floated near to the bench. The term "goo" did not seem very professional, but that was how the good doctor had labelled it. His disgust at the the word easily lost to his repect for the infamous Dr. Kyou.
The young man listened intently as Aphismet spoke, sincerely interested in anything to do with the creation of the Raevan species. The mixture of magic and science seemed so very foriegn, even after nearly an entire year. "I wonder where he finds them all."
Julian, at least, felt it was unnecessary to explain who "he" was.
Gage watched quietly as the rose Frei left to sit by her owner, feeling quite out of sorts. It was highly possible she had moved due to what he had said, but somehow the idea did not fit in with Vyn's vibrant peronality. When Rivener smiled, the green Raevan felt he had little choice but to try and ignore the female's departure.
"I did think I might," he replied softly, gaze focusing on the other male's face. "I do not want to hurt. It is not... good, Ri... River."

Oh, good. To all appearances this Aph guy didn't seem to have much more idea about Raevens than she did. In fact, if possible, he just might know even less than Shuura. Well, that was alright in her book. It would just make her look more responsible no matter how irresponsible she actually was. She grinned widely.
"Rock of Night? That sounds interesting." Not really.
"...Why are we all here again?" she decided to ask, out of sheer boredom if nothing else. She studied Vyn, who seemed to be content as anything in her little pool of darkness. Damn. Now she was even more hungry.
Vyn simply tilted her roseate-haired head towards the two male Raevens, content to just listen to their voices. She was facing the red and black Frei directly and Gage was to her left. She decided she liked the spot, and floated even closer to the ground.

Aphismet ran a hand through his hair, and looked around uncomfortably. He wondered when it would be alright for Rivener to go back to the house; it's not like there was a meter he could see that would tell him when the Raevan was full. "Well, we're feeding our Raevans?" he asked tentatively. He was rather sure that's what they were doing, but being asked outright made him doubt if he was right or not.
"Erm, can I ask you both something?" he suddenly said, keeping his eyes on the ground as much as possible. "What do you both do for a living?" He wanted to check something.
Rivener smirked at the other's mistake over his name. Even he could only say his name properly if he uttered it slowly. With his usual voice and tone, he normally spoke quite slowly anyway. It left him time to think of the next word he needed. Still, he wouldn't correct the other.
"Here, let's test," he said, lifting a hand in front of him towards Gage. "Give your hand?"

"I am an intern and general manager for X labs," Julian said in the sort of monotone that suggested he had said those same words many times before in the exact same manner. His arms were crossed over his chest again, an impersonal, hard gesture. Having been the first out in the park that night, he was almost ready to head back to his apartment. There were some few hours of night left, and with every passing moment, he was one step closer to falling asleep where he sat.
Gage hesitated for what seemed a long while. It was not that he disliked "River" so much as he was unused to physical contact. His guardian was not the sort to pet or coddle, which left the green Frei somewhat awkward and wary when it came to matters of touch.
He slowly reached out his hand, just barely allowing his fingers to graze the other male's palm. "It is good?"

Vyn watched their exchange with curiousity, her yellow eyes glinting in the moonlight. She almost wanted to join in, but she wasn't sure what they were doing. And experience with Shuura told her that if you weren't sure what you were doing, you probably shouldn't be doing it at all.
"I'm a first year at the university." Shuura waved a hand towards the general direction of DPU, Durem Private University. "I'm, uh, currently....in-between jobs." That reminded her. It was almost summer. She would need a job...and soon. She'd have to check back at that cafe place again in the near future. Even though she'd manage to negotiate a rather special summer living arrangement, she still needed money. Badly.
She eyed Aphismet over, wondering if she could possibly extract any sort of possibility of a job from this guy. Although she doubted it, she decided to ask anyway. It never hurt to keep an eye out for possible opportunities. "What do you do?"
