Seraphim drummed her fingers on the armrest of the living room easyback, frowning at the solemn child sitting on her lap.

For one thing, why was the brat sitting on her lap? Yesterday, if someone had asked her if she loved kids, she would've replied "Fried or deep-baked?"

But here they were, Papree still uncooked and sitting on her lap, with Seraphim, for once, at a total, complete loss.

Well, there was one thing to do -- share the wealth. Hey, nobody could fault her for being generous; she just shared misery as equally as wealth. Reaching into her pocket and flipping open her cell phone, never taking her eyes off the kid, Seraphim dialed a numbers, then snapped her phone shut when done. After sitting in the chair thoughtfully for a few minutes, she picked up Papree and set her on the floor, rummaged through the drawers of one of the end tables. Producing a handy pack of tripwire, she stretched the tripwire across the entrance to the living room. After she had finished her task, she picked up Papree, returned to her chair, set Papree on her lap, and waited patiently.

She didn't have long to wait.

Within a few minutes, the sound of the front door being ripped off its hinges and thrown into the hallway was heard. Both heads jerked up in surprise and in unison looked in the direction of the unholy shrieking noise that was heading towards them, Papree in curiousity and Seraphim with a half-smile and slight look of concern.

"SEEEERRRRAAAAAA-"

And there was a loud crashing noise as Merodi tripped over the wire and slid headfirst across the floor, her head bumping gently against Seraphim's legs.

"Hello, Merodi," Seraphim greeted calmly. Papree stared at this strange woman in curiosity; who was this strange screaming woman? Lifting her head, she stared exuberantly at Papree, ignoring the blood from her running down her face. For some reason, Papree seemed to find that somewhat upsetting and clung to Seraphim.

"You're getting blood on the hardwood floor," Seraphim pointed out. "There's paper towels in in the kitchen."

"Oh! It's okay!" Merodi dismissed. She got up and extended her arms out to Papree. "I wanted to see the baby!"

Normally Merodi looked as threatening as a angry Pomeranian, ie small, fuzzy, and utterly adorable. However, the blood running down her face combined with her expression made her seem to be something from out of The Shining. Papree found herself unconsciously using her Kung Fu action grip.

"Firstly, I think she's a little too old to be considered a baby. Secondly, I think you're scaring her. Thirdly," she continued in a strangled tone as she tried to pry Papree's fingers from her neck, "I cannot breathe."

The lizard of death, that had shuffled in five minutes after Merodi and caused Papree to try and strangle Seraphim again, didn't help either.

Needless to say, Papree did not have a Good Impression of Merodi.

It was late at night and Papree found herself nodding off on the back porch of the house, bundled up against the chill. She jerked herself upright, not wanting to fall asleep yet, because Seraphim was doing something in the backyard.

At first she'd been standing in the yard, yelling at something in the sky. Papree had watched, only slightly curious, because Seraphim had a habit of yelling at things that didn't answer back, like the computer-box. As it were, Papree was much more intent in dragging over a short stool to the fridge and designing some sort of bizarre ladder leading up to the freezer where the ice cream was stored.
