Okay, I'm quoting the manga here. Highlight if you wanna read it.
Sakura: Shikamaru! Temari-san! Hey! *points to Naruto* Who do you think it is?
Temari & Shika: !
Shika: Hey! If is isn't Naruto!
Naruto: ! Shikamaru!!
Temari: This guy...that runt?
Shika: Did you just come home then?
Naruto: No, I came back yesterday.
Shika: Hehe...so has any of your idiocy left you? And have you changed? Well?
Sakura: *handwaves* No. He hasn't changed at all!
Naruto: *slumps* Sakura-chaaan! *whispers* So, are you on a date too?
Shika: ! That's not it.
Temari: You're joking. Why would I go out with such a... There's a chuunin exam soon, I'm just going back and forth between the Sand and the Leaf for meetings.
Shika: And it's troublesome, but I've become an examiner, so... I was told to go and see off the messengers from the Sand.
Naruto: ...A chuunin exam...? That brings back memories...
Shika: yeah! And Naruto, what are you planning?
Naruto: What do you mean?
Shika: What you say...It's a chuunin exam. The only one from our class who hasn't become a chuunin is you.
Naruto: EEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHH?!!!!!!!!! *looks at Sakura* Then! Then! You're a chuunin, too, Sakura-chan?!
Sakura: *peace sign* Yup!
Shika: Plus...*points to Temari* Neji from the class above us, Kankurou of the Sand, and Temari here are already Jounin.
Naruto: HUHHHHHHHH?!!
So Shikamaru is a chuunin.

3nodding re-read the chapter on Naruto forums. He is a Chuunin. Which is weird, he should be a Jounin if Temari and Neji *he must have moved up fast* are.

You're right. xD But he's lazy. He's probably satisfied as a chuunin. He said that he wanted to be an okay shinobi with an okay pay, married to an okay woman, and have two kids, right?
