Gael, after several minutes of blissfully uninterupted silence, threw down her pen in disgust. She was missing something, something that she would need in order to decode what was written on the tablets before her.

She turned, looking for Sanar, part of her wondering where the irritating girl had gotten to, the other part hoping that she'd just left so that Gael could have her temper-tantrum without an audience.

No such luck.

"Sanar!" She called to the girl in the bushes. Wait, those bushes were the kind that Sin had told her to stay away from, the ones that made you sick if you got them on you.

"Sanar," She called again, "You shouldn't touch those bushes... Sin told me that they make you really sick."

At the lack of response, Gael dropped her book onto the grass and went closer to the bushes, wondering why Sanar was not answering.

Sanar's head popped out a little ways off, ears perking to catch Gael's words over the sounds of the various insects.

Bad...bushes? That made you sick??

Did they attack you or something? Like in the movies?

The Aerandir child froze, looking around slowly. When you were about to be attacked everyone always said 'don't make any sudden movements!' so she wasn't making any sudden movements.

But was she already in the bad bush? She couldn't tell which one Gael was telling her was the bad one.

"Gael?" she called back, tucking her wings in close, voice fearful, "Gael...? Which bushes? I can't see..."

Gael reached forward and pulled Sanar away from the offending bush, not wanting to appear as though she was dishonorable as well as completely nasty in the same day. You always rescued a person who was in need, it was just the way of being gallant.

Gael liked to think of herself as like the princes in the old stories, the ones who always did the right thing.

But this girl, this girl was her enemy! She could not afford to be nice to her, and yet she found herself wanting to save her from the evil and poisonous marsh grass that would surely have made her sick for a good long time.

It seemed a decent thing to do.

"That one." Her finger extended, along with her wings as she pointed at the offending bush. "Stay away from that one."

Sanar looked where Gael pointed and nodded, doing her best to imprint the bush, its leaves and size and color in her mind and label it as 'EVIL'.

Turning to Gael she smiled greatfully and hugged, before realizing Gael probably wouldn't like that and quickly let go. "Sorry... but thankies so much Gael! I would'da tried to pick some of it's leaves if you hadn' warned me...."

Gael froze at the contact, not expecting it, and certainly not wanting to receproicate it. She smiled a twisted half-smile, the corners of her mouth just barely twitching upwards as she was more amused than anything. "It was nothing."

She turned away from Sanar, turning her head to say over her shoulder, "You do realize that this tablet contains something, I'm not sure what, about the Aerandir from before... back when they were no longer artefacts, but rather, real people?
PostPosted: Sat Jul 29, 2006 12:11 pm

Sanar smiled anyway, even if it'd taken no effort from Gael she'd still done it and Sanar was greatful.

She followed Gael back to the tablet and regarded it seriously.

"Somethin' from before..." Sanar nodded to herself as she said it. That made sense. But... what would you need a tablet for? Not for something practical or day to day; one couldn't use a tablet like that for anything other than for writing and reading. Too much effort would've had to be put into it to make it.

"It must've been something they really want'ed to remember... 'cause otherwise the Aerandir from before wouldn'ta made it..." she said aloud, collecting her thoughts and gently tracing a glyph on the tablet. It looked even more like a jumble of meaningless markings than the glyphs in books did.

"But, cause it's old the glyphs are different we can't read them..." but why was it different? Why weren't they being taught to write this so they could see what the Aerandir from before [and before what exactly?] wanted to remember?

Sanar frowned, "Gael? Why're the old Aerandir peoples stuff artifacts now, anyway?"

Gael too survayed the tablet, not knowing why she lacked the understanding to read the characters, but seeing some that she was sure that she'd seen somewhere before. It bothered her that she knew she'd seen them, but couldn't place her finger on where. It was like she had just let that memory drop out of her head.

She hated not beingin control, hated not understanding, and, perhaps more than anything else, she hated to be unable to gather data to point her in the right direction.

She shook her head, "Sin's never told me much about the old Aerandir. I guess that she just assumed I knew. I don't know."

Sanar nodded, a little sad that Gael seemed to be in the dark as much as she was which meant that, for now, the tablet was just a hunk of rock with glyphs on it which meant something, obviously, but they didn't know what, and that made all the difference.

She nibbled on a lip, "neither has my Mum. I dun think she knows anythin' really, just that there was one and then there wasn't and now there's us.

"But... would some'un know? Like maybeh the older Aerandir? Big Handa knew about Seedpods and said that they were used before so maybe the older Aerandir have some idea about this," she gestured to the glyphs. She was grasping at straws, but it was all she could think of.

Gael nodded, "Maybe we should go find one of the bigger Aerandir and ask them. I don't know who that person you met was, but maybe they know more."

She was excited, she would admit that. This was an intriguing new puzzle for her. She bent down and tried to pick up the tablet, realizing very quickly that it weighed far too much for her to lift on her own.

Eyes shifting to Sanar, she realized that she would have to ask for help in order to get it back to the older Aerandir and perhaps even the Sandy-Colored man.

She really didn't want to, however.

"Hopefully," Sanar said smiling then she frowned, "but Handa lives on the other island... we migh' have to wait to find her and show her. Or maybe I can write her and have her come to us? Then we won' have to carry it all the way there," she said, pondering the possibilities and headed forward. After adjusting her bag she picked up the other half of the tablet, wings flapping as she fought for a comfortable way to hold it.

There really wasn't one, the thing was really heavy after all (something Sanar knew very well, she'd dug it out after all) but carrying one half was manageable, if not comfortable.

"Where should we bring it to?" she asked looking up at the night sky. They weren't going to get much help this time of night, were they?

Gael closed her eyes, gritting her teeth and pulling as hard as she could. The damn thing lifted, just a little bit - she was impressed. "We should take it to my house, as it's closer to the community center." Gael reasoned between breaths.

She hated carrying things, and it was getting late. She started to walk backwards, away from the clearing.

Sanar nodded, carefully taking the first few steps and manuvering her wings until she got a decent balance.

Once she was sure she was could walk forward and carry the tablet she quietly followed the other Aerandir out of the clearing, alternatine between staring at her feet to make sure she wasn't about to trip on anything and looking to Gael to know that she was heading in the right direction.

Gael trudged through the undergrowth, walking backwards and casting a wary eye around for anything that might trip herself. Her path, so far, had proven it's self to be realitively care-free and without the large rock to trip over. She didn't want to break the tablet before they got it back to her house.

The trees had begun to thin when Gael heard something a little odd coming from behind Sanar. "What's that?" She asked, setting down her end of the tablet and scanning the woods, wondering if running would be a safer idea than fighting.

Sanar blinked, ears twitching at the odd sound and turned around, cradling her half of the tablet as protectively as she could.

"I'unno..." she murmured, legs tensing in preparation to kick or flee. Or perhaps some combination of both, should the situation call for it.

Gael shifted nervously from foot to foot, wondering if Sanar, the one carrying the other half of her tablet could have made that noise while walking. She didn't think that it was possiable. That, in it's self, made her nervous. She didn't like noises that came out of nowhere.

Pulling her hands up, she brought them together into a very loud, very pronounced slapping sound - which echoed slightly in the forest.

The rustling continued.
