 Kiuma laughed weakly, her lips curling in a half-hearted smile. "Tanaka! You are such a joker... I almost believed you for a moment. I couldn't possibly be pregnant..." She trailed off as she chuckled again, the sound forced. Was it possible? Now that she thought of it, there was no real reason why she couldn't... She was old enough, and they'd certainly done enough to give her body a chance to take.
Her mind whirled as she wavered on her paws, her eyes wide with a touch of fear. "Tanaka... tell me it was a joke, dearest. Cubs?" Kiuma fell silent as she buried her face into his chest, pressing all of her red pelt that she could against his white one.

Tanaka closed his eyes, sighing quietly as he nuzzled against his mate, trying to protect her. Part of him wished he had been joking, for it to be a dream that they would simply wake up from and after enjoying each other. But yet, part of him couldn't help but feel and overwealming love for his mate and the mother of his children.
"Cubs..."
Tanaka echoed the words, his tail curling about hers. He wanted to hold her, to reassure her, to be strong for her despite his own fear. Were they ready for this? What changes did this mean for the future? What would the cubs look like? Would there be one with her mother's eyes? Or with his mane? For Tanaka it was a jumble of emotions, fear and uncertainy combined with love and elation.
"I'm sure you've noticed the changes as well."

Sighing, Kiuma drew away to sit up straight, pushing down her momentary weakness. So she was going to be a mother... nothing could change that now, so it would be better to just prepare for it. A smile pulled at her muzzle, subtly twisted. "I'll make a terrible mother, Tanaka... I'm great on my own, but I don't know the first thing about raising cubs. I don't even know what to do to have them." Kiuma shook her head, her soft ears pressing back against her skull as the bones of her necklace clicked softly.
"I'll have to go home... Mother will know what I'm to do, and it would be safer for me and the cubs if we had shelter and a whole pride of lions around us during the birthing." Much as she hated to think of returning with her travels only half-finished, the red lioness couldn't imagine having her cubs anywhere else. The Pridelands were home, even though she had left them for a time. She always knew she'd go back eventually.

Shaken from his thoughts by Kiuma's words, the white lion simply smiled and nuzzled against her neck briefly before focusing his green eye on hers.
"No, you'll be a fine mother."
His words were sincere, he truly belived them as he spoke. He was uncertain of himself, he'd never had children and had no idea how to be a father, but he was absolutely sure that Kiuma would be a wonderful mother to their cubs.
He bite back a small wave of laughter and just shook his head. She was so worried, so unsure, but she really had no reason to be. Tanaka might not have had cubs before, but he knew enough to know that she would know what to do when the time came.
"I think that part is instictive, you'll know when you're ready."
Dark ears flicked, Tanaka was a wanderer at heart, it had never occured to him to settle down and start a family. With Kiuma he had found a compain, and then a mate, someone he could share his journies with. Though now it seemed their journey was cut short and he wasn't quite sure how he felt about 'going home', but he understood. It would be better for Kiuma and the cubs, they would be protected.
"Yeah..."
He nodded, tail flicking about uncertainly. But as he thought about it, this was his soul mate before him, the one he would have followed to hell and back, the one he intended to spend eternity with. In the end, wasn't this just another part of their journey? Weren't the cubs something wonderful that they could share? Wherever she was, there he would be happy and content.
"We'll go back together."

Kiuma just shook her head as she smiled, her gaze turned inward. He might think she'd be a good mother, but only time would tell if she really would be, it was useless to argue with him now. Let him have his belief... it amused her. Now, as to knowing what to do... she still didn't have a clue. Relief washed through her when he agreed to return to the Pridelands with her. "Thank you, Tanaka... you don't know how much it means to me that you'll go with me. I know its a lot to ask of you, but I want you by my side for this, more than anything."
She leaned against him, letting him support her weight. Just as they had in his, thoughts drifted through on what their cubs might look like. At least they looked good together... the cubs wouldn't have any clashing colors, and could even turn out to be rather handsome. As for gender... Kiuma wanted big, strong boys like their father, yet she dearly wished for at least one little girl. Someone to teach all her knowledge of life to... yes, that would be a great joy.

"You know that I would never leave you. Wherever you go, I will be there, always."
He purred softly, his body leaning against hers in a gentle embrace. For the moment he let the thoughts of the future drift away, focusing instead on the red lioness feeling closer to her than he ever had before, marveling at how that was even possible. Was it possible to love even more after you had give your heart fully to another?
Life had just gotten a lot more complicate, and they were certainly in for some trials, but they would take it day by day. And through it all they would always have each other, drawing strength from one another. And while Kiuma may have her doubts, Tanaka was certain that she would be fine. Even as his own fear touched at the back of his mind, he somehow knew that this would bring them even closer together and that it was only the start of their life together.
