Lessee...there's the one about having no mirrors onstage (I was a Nazi about this one during Bye, Bye, Birdie. Managed to get a lot of believers, too) The no yellow flowers, and my favorite, pretty obscure one "Don't eat any food that is mentioned in the play on opening or closing night,"

Wow, that is obscure. eek

oh hey!! I found another origin of the Peacock feather superstition..

Quote:
PEACOCK FEATHERS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Superstition:
Actors strongly dislike peacock feathers on the stage or in any part of the theatre

The Origin:
The most probably reason for this superstition is that the ever-open 'eyes' on the feathers have become associated with the Evil Eye, a portent of horrible misfortune, including death.

Well at the theatre at my old school we have things spray painted all over the walls backstage. Stuff like "if it itches down there you have crotch rot!" or "we were here when it was dark!" So whenever a guy has to adjust his boxers while backstage cuz his costume is messing it up we say he has crotch rot or if there are only a few people backstage while it's dark we'll just crack up laughing cuz people think bad stuff goes on back there when we're just being stupid. Superstition though...hmmm...we don't have any for our theatre unless youre in a musical cuz some bad things always happen in the band/choir room during a musical. *shrugs*

As the grand ole' tradition goes, we have a ghost in our theatre. I know this sounds stupid, but my friend, who was a fellow maid in Dracula told me about it and she said that she was in the auditorium by herself, and she couldn't take it, she got really creeped out. And she's REALLY into paranormal stuff.

I'm not completely sure on the whole "scottish play" thing at our school, but nobody's ever mentioned it, so I'm pretty sure that they believe in it.

Every night before we do "zigazaga" the girl actors gather inside the girl's dressing room and they say a chant. Then the senior (or the oldest of the girl actors) has a trinket of some kind, and passes it around to everyone and everyone has to kiss it to ensure a spectacular show. biggrin Then the guys do something with shaving cream to the newcomers of the theatre kids. xd It was really weird, don't ask! blaugh xd

we ave the normal "Scottish play" and theatre ghost, um....we also refuse to say "good luck" we even go as far as not sending anything with good luck written on it. we have a sheep that hangs from a desk light on our light board, I started that one durring one of our shows this year...a friend gave me a little hanging sheep stuffy and I put it on the board for the show and it never left, we have never had lighting troubles durring a show since the sheep showed up. we all decided that "Dwane"(our ghost) likes sheep. but thats about it.....

fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....yah, the whole sheep thing started as a little gift from a friend cause I reais sheep, but then it started to spread, I had to bring my whole collection of sheep stuffies to school for the plays....I think we had one in the light booth one in the sound booth, one on stage right, one of stage left, and 2 for the dressing rooms....it was funny.

PossessedByDevil
You can't whistle on stage or back stage or a sand bag or something of that nature will fall on your head or some one elses.
Well, these days, since sand bags are becoming more scarce... the weights from the pully system rise from off the ground telekenetically and smack you in the face

Hi everyone!

You would be suprised how many theaters still have sand bags. I've seen several theaters that still have them, including my alma mater, The University of Tampa.

We had a theater ghost there, her name was (or is) Bessie Snavley. Our theater was the Falk Theater (formerly the Park Theater) in Tampa, Florida. It was an old vaudville house. One of the tours that performed there included Bessie who at the time was madly in love and having a relationship with one of the stage managers. As it turned out, the stage manager left Bessie for another one of the actresses in the company. Distraught, Bessie hung herself from the top floor rafters above the theater.

We still keep a noose ties to the rafters to scare the freshman. I have had experiences in that theater that can not be otherwise explaned. Mysterious whispering and sneezing, people being saved from falling off ladders, and electrical things turning on and off. She was mostly harmless, and sometimes saved people when they needed saving.

The only times she became malicious was when you would wear red. Little things like people being tripped and big things like major falls (i.e. more than a few feet down.) Most people in the theater knew better than to wear red if they were doing anything more than seeing a show.

The Falk Theater is just one of those places that feels like someone is there. And it is easy to psych youself out when you have to walk in alone in the dark to turn the work lights on.

I love that theater! Thanks to Bessie it has a soul. heart

been there, I had to work a show and I got there on time, but the person who was renting the theatre was an hour late, let me tell you an hour alone with dwane (our theatre ghost) is enough to scare you silly.

Well, in our school it's like the law that if your in the cast you must call each other by your characters name for the durretion of the run..(which was bloody annoying when i was the Phantom stare ) then there's the old "scottish play" thing and the "break a leg", there's also the weird tradition for a good peformance all the cast sing and do the Timewarp on opening night which is a lot of fun xd the last and most interesting thing is, we never ever stay on stage after the 2nd Curtain draw of an encore, we bow exactly twice each time and always file out to the right and wait till we're out of the stage to say our congrats...figre that out cos i can't...
