A Crystal and a Crow

He was laying out in the hammock, rocking back and forth in it his eyes closed. The sun was slowly going down so at least the temperature which was insanely hot was starting to ease. The only reason that he was outside to begin with was the fact that he had set up the sprinkler so that the water was falling upon him only. It made the hammock tollerable. He opened his eyes, looking up through the tree that he was hanging under, the sky was darkening to a deep orange which meant that it had to been getting along towards dinner time. The scorpion Fa'e pushed up to his feet, stretched out, then looked down at the huge mess that had been made of the sprinkler being on in place for a long period of time. He walked, carefully, through the mud as he didn't want to end up falling over and into it and followed the hose along to where it attached to the house and turned it off.

As he straightened out a glint caught his eyes, a far of shine caused from the waning sunlight bouncing off of something shiny. He blinked a couple times when it happened again and turned to go, paused to look back then shook his head. Since when had he suffered from crow syndrome? He had no desire to go chasing after something shiny just to find out that all it was was a piece of foil or something reflecting sunlight... He took two steps towards the house the once more he found himself stopping. He gave a back and forth swish of his tail before he found himself walking towards the shiny. He supposed that if he made it quick he would be able to get it and get back home for dinner.

Lucien ran forward, towards the thing pausing when he was closer to get a better look at it, "What the hell..." He muttered, it was a bug? It looked to be fluttering back and forth and didn't exactly look like any bug he'd seen before, instead it looked like someone glued together a couple of bugs to make it. He tilted his head to the side, curiousity filling him. Was it some sort of rare bug? He crept a little closer as if he were expecting for it to fly off or something, it was about then that he noticed the many wings that the thing had weren't moving... and the pattern in which it 'flew' was to regular. Back and forth, back and forth, back and... his eyes narrowed and he realized that it was entangled in the branch of a tree by a long bit of black cord. He took step forward to inspect it further, wait... it wasn't a bug at all it looked like it were a necklace. It was rather girly but pretty in an insect-y sort of way. Unable to resist some sort of invisable draw that the thing seemed to have the teen lifted his hand up towards it. He was about to wrap his fingers around it when a loud, dark streak came dive bombing him. There was the sound of an angry 'caw' and he was suddenly getting peck at by the black blur, it landed on the branch above him, cawing again.

"What the... crow?" He gave a growling sound, tail lashing back and forth as he looked the bird over that had dared to attack him! He took a step forward as the bird started to peck at the branch, then lunged at it. His hand narrowly missed catching hold of the bird as it once more took flight and took the necklace along with it heading deeper into the forest. Lucien's red eyes went wide as he realized that bird had just stolen HIS necklace! When he decided that it was his he wasn't exactly sure but instantly he gave chase, suddenly having the overwhelming desire to cook that damn bird... Cook it, after he killed the little theif throughly! All sorts of none to kind thoughts about what should be done with the animal went through his mind as he followed it, deeper and deeper into the forest, the dark was starting to overtake the place as the sun went down but even the smallest amount of the light was fine by him, his eyes could seen just as easily in low light as in full light so he found it easy enough to keep the bird in sight.

The bird flew up, up, up along the trunk of a rather large tree and into a crack in the side and didn't emerge again. Lucien looked up at where he'd vanished and gave a sighing sound as he realized that to get back what was stolen he was going to have to climb that thing, easier said then done, "Been a long time since I've had to climb up a tree." He thought to himself then circled it to find the easiest path up.

Why he found himself needing to follow the necklace and take it into his posession was beyond him, he could just describe what it looked like to his mother and she could make him one, she had a talent when it came to making jewelry but he wanted THIS one! He reached up to catch hold of the first branch, pulling himself up. His tail hooked over the next, claw snapping in half the branches that got in his way. His accent was a bit slow going but he was making progress, he could see the hole in the tree now, could hear the bird moving around inside. No doubt it was mocking him, laughing over how easily he'd stolen away the shiny. Who would be laughing now! He blinked a couple times and gave a groan, why was he getting so worked up over this? He could only attribute it to the fact that someone had stolen something from him that he wanted, it was all that made any sense for why he was getting mad at a bird.

He caught hold of the last branch needed and pulled up, looking into the hole in the side of the tree... and his eyes went wide at the sight of all of the things inside that the bird had stolen, a whole treasure trove in here. He wondered idly how much was stolen from his mother, a good deal no doubt and he doubted she even noticed as such things didn't seem to occur to her, that her pieces could be stolen. The bird let out a sound of surprise and fluttered its wings, cawing, and going at Lucien... and the Fa'e caught hold of the bird this time around its wings. He looked it over... and then gave it a toss having lost the desire to hurt it for some reason. Instead as it gathered its wits and took to the air so as not to fall Lucien reached into the tree and grabbed hold of HIS necklace. He looked over with a smiled and put it over his head. It had to be the most unmanly necklace ever created that was for sure but now that he had it he felt rather happy. Odd.

For a moment he considered stealing back the other various things within the crows nest to return them to his mother then shook his head, he'd gotten what he wanted and the crow deserved to keep the other things that he had taken. Especially since his mother had no idea they were missing. With that the scorpion started his way back down the tree towards the ground, triumphant.

Returning Home

Dinner had come and gone without Lucien making an appearance, while the table was full as always Rayne's eyes kept moving over to his empty chair with a hint of worry. She didn't like when he up and vanished like this, it seemed that he was the only one of her sons that did so and she had no idea if it would be a day, a week, or more before he came home again. Worse then that was her worrying about his condition, he had a knack for getting himself into situations that included him getting new scars. So when the back door opened to reveal him standing there she was instantly on her feet and rushing over to his side, she looked him over, fussing over the scratches that he now bore here and there, "What happened? Where were you?" She demanded of him, ears laying back against her head.

Lucien shifted in place not having meant to worry her, "No where, well somewhere but not far." He said hoping to reassure her, "Just got distracted by something in the forest."

His mother had once nicknamed the place the 'Dark Forest' in hopes of keeping her babies from wandering into it and getting lost, it seemed to work with everyone but Lucien who seemed to go there quite often. Maybe it was because of the name? Or maybe just because nobody else went into it from his family which meant that he would get to be alone, a welcome change from the full house that he was used to dealing with.

"What would distract you in there?" She asked, moving to get a washcloth from the kitchen sink so that she could clean up the scraps on his face then narrowed her eyes a little, "You weren't getting into another fight with someone were you?" She would rather he just be peaceful but that didn't seem to be the case.

"No, no... well yes but since it was a bird I don't think that it counts." He said, taking the cloth from her with his hand and cleaned up the scrapes himself before tossing it back to the sink. He then began picking some leaves and twigs from his hair, "I just saw something... this something," He laid his hand over the necklace, "I tried to pick it up and some bird snatched it out from under me." What a pain to have to chase down a bird.

Rayne's ears turned forward, her tail gave a sort of back and forth flick... and then she started to giggle, "Y-You got in a fight with a bird?" She asked between bouts of laughter.

The scorpion Fa'e gave her a look, tail starting to swish in annoyance, "Yes, I suppose that I did." He muttered, "Its own fault for taking something that was mine."

Rayne rolled her eyes before she lifted her hand up to move his out of the way so that she could see what was so all important... then starred in confusion. It was a necklace, and while it was a very pretty one it didn't much seem to be his style, or any style that a male would wear. It was an insect necklace, Monarch Butterfly, Ladybug, and Dragonfly wings made up the design and she couldn't help but reach out a hand to touch it, "Very pretty." She said... then blinked. The gems didn't feel like any she'd ever encountered before and being a jeweler herself by trade she was rather intrigued, though when it looked as if she were gonna try to delve deeper into the make up of the crystals, try to figure out what they were made up suddenly Lucien's hand was covering it again in a posessive, protective sort of way.

"It is pretty." He agreed before he made a circle around his mother and moved over to the dinner table, taking up his normal spot and started to dish up the foods that he wanted to eat, dragging them onto his plate. Rayne followed him with her eyes then shook her head, she'd not meant to upset him. It wasn't as if she meant to steal his little trinket she was just interested in it was all. She gave a shake of her head before resuming her seat at the table.

"Much better with all of my babies at one table." She told them, getting a grummbling response from one of them that didn't my like being referred to as a baby.

Confused...?

Lucien was laying on his back in the grass, the sun had long since set and it was quiet. The stars were out, shimmering in the sky above. The moon was nonexsistant currently, the new moon which made everything darker and more relaxing, cozy. He'd been with this odd, insect necklace for a couple of days now. At first aside from that desire to keep it close to his heart there was nothing else going on, currently though it was a little different. He felt a draw, as if he felt like he should be going somewhere. He lifted a hand to lay it over the six winged necklace before he sat up, looking across the field and towards the forest. Where he was supposed to go was beyond him. Maybe he wasn't supposed to know? Maybe it was something where he was just supposed to get up and walk? He'd had those moments a couple of times before when dealing with himself, currently though he didn't think it was something or someone from his own past that was tugging at him.

Which made even less sense to him.

He was oblivious of the fireflies that were flying around him, flickering brightly in the warm summer air. They weren't flying anywhere else aside from around him, swarming one would almost say. It wasn't until they started to land on him that he noticed them, he gave a hissing sound of surprise then rose up to his feet, shooing them away with his hand and turned to head back to the house. He would do it tomorrow, he would try to find the thing that was tugging at him. For now he was sure that getting inside and away from the crazy swarm of bugs would be a good idea.

Today wasn't the first day that they'd done this, yesterday he took a nap in his hammock and woke up with a bunch of butterflies landed on him, their mulicolored wings standing out against his pale skin. He wasn't sure why, it wasn't as if he were a flower or something like that... weird creatures. He stepped inside, looking out the window to see them fluttering around for only a moment more before they just scattered. No longer having their landing pad they seemed bored... He turned around and gave a jump as he found his mother standing there, "Oh! Hi." He said, flushing.

Rayne's ears gave a little flicker forwards and backwards, "You seem popular." His mother teased, tail wagging.

Lucien shook his head as he glanced back out the door, "I don't know." He said, walking towards the stairs, "I am gonna get some sleep, I have something that I wnat to do tomorrow, I might be away most of the day ok?"

His mother lifted a questioning eyebrow before giving a little nod, "Alright, where are you headed?"

The scorpion gave a shake of his head, "I am not exactly sure." He told her honestly then turned to head up the stairs, two at a time and soon vanished around the corner.

Rayne tilted her head to the side, confused and a little worried. She supposed that all she could do was wait for him to get home and hope that whatever it was that he was doing he didn't get himself hurt on the way.

*****

By the time she woke up the next day Lucien had already headed out, his dirty clothing from the day before laying on the floor in front of his dresser, lights out, looking a bit messier then normal...

Meeting With Medi - Nova - (PRP - Lucien & The Medium)

...

...

Starting Now

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Medium was enjoying a peaceful evening writing in her notebook. She refused to call it a diary. Diaries reminded her of giggly teenage girls with their legs crossed on their beds writing about their latest crush. No, this was a log of her adventures with snivvle-nosed kids and idiots.

Idiots, of course, who she was stuck with due to her mistake. The very first page of that diary described that one mistake - and the person who ever took it from her would meet Death at her fiercest.

The crystal sang, then, making Medium groan. Another crystal had fallen and been found. The woman slammed her notebook shut, locked it, and walked into her own little area to peer into the crystal.

Insects? What did she do, set the plague that pissed off the Pharohs?

Lucien had been wandering all day, since he'd set out to find the strange pull that had been bothering him the last couple of days. As he had no idea where he was going he had started off in an arbitrary direction and went with it. He'd done a lot of wandering about from home, through the normal places that he knew, the forest, then took it in a wider arc passed his normal places to go.

And he found himself stummbling across a cottage, he looked around... then tilted his head. He wasn't sure if anyone was living here, it had a sorta abandoned look to it. The tugging had ceased though. Instead of having that same desire to wander and find someunamed thing it was instead a feeling that he'd found what he was looking for, of triumph.

His tail started to lash back and forth in a confused sort of way as he stepped closer to the cottage, "Ummm... Hello?" He called, feeling a bit weirded out calling out for someone he didn't know, didn't even know if they were present. He would wait a bit to see if there were an answer, if not he would know that this had to be the wrong place and he would move on, see if there was anything, anyone else around this place.

The sound of someone's voice caused the seer's head to lift, hollow eyes moving to look through the curtain of beads and to the door. Mmm, if the Spirit Keeper was here, he certainly was unsure of himself. Almost as bad as that...Adrian - was that his name? - fellow was. Robes fluttered as she stood herself up and made her way toward the front door.

The door was opened with ease, the woman peering out into the daylight with cold, voided eyes. Pitch black, it looked as though her eye sockets had been filled with a black hole where the eyes should have been. Long white hair fell down around her, wisps obstructing her emotionless face and a pair of half bent and half broken wings stood out behind her, feathers raining from them with each movement.

This was the spirit keeper? What was with the influx of children?! Not bothering to hide her annoyance, the woman spoke, "You're who I was waiting for? Very well, then. Enter."

With that, she turned with a flutter of robes and sunk into the dark house once more.

Lucien gave a jolt, eyes going a bit wide upon seeing the woman that appeared, for a moment he thought that he was seeing a ghost... she had that air about her. He blinked coming out of his starring trance as she spoke and he found him looking a bit more confused... then his curiousity seemed to jump into gear, "You were waiting for me?" He asked, watching as she turned to go back inside.

He took that as an invitaion to enter the house after her. Ok so she was expecting him? Then maybe she was the one calling him? ... Why though? He didn't know her, felt no connection with her... weird.

He ground his claw a little, eyes adjusting easily to the dark of the house, his low light vision coming in handy, he felt as if he were following someone, something dangerous into her den. He supposed he could only hope that she wasn't expecting him for dinner or something... He couldn't help but smile and shake his head at that, no. He doubted very much that she was like that woman out of the Hansel and Gretel story? He hoped.

"Is there a reason that you were waiting on me?" He asked of her, curious.

Her head turned and her wings twitched with annoyance. Why was it that anyone who came with a crystal was full of a million questions? Impatience was something that the seer had been cursed with when she had been sent to Gaia. It had something to do with the generally low IQ average of the people in this world.

Medium heaved a sigh, "You found a crystal, yes? Congratulations, whoever the hell you are, you're a father."

The monotonous voice showed no hint of amusement, nor did the emotionless face.

"Lucien." He said immediently in answer... then his eyes went wide. Wait... what was that? Who was a father now? He opened his mouth to say something then closed it again as it started to fall into place in his mind. Found a crystal equalled being a father...? He looke down at it, laying a hand over it, "F-Father?"

Next thing to go through his mind were the words his mother had said not all that long ago, about not making her a grandmother for a while yet, "Oh..." His mother was going to kill him... "Ok." He looked down at the crystal then shook his head, "Wait how does that work? A crystal making me a father?" Surely there had to be more to it then that, right? He had to of missed something somewhere but his train of thought had long derailed at the word 'Father'.

The Medium rolled her eyes when the young man spoke and walked through the curtain of beads. The strings, however, stayed perfectly still and made not so much a clink of noise. It was as if she hadn't touched them at all.

"My kind are Guardians of...Everything," said her voice, still that same monotone, "Life, love, sea, sky...Insects. That's what you have, there. The Insect Guardian. We make mistakes, we're cast down to be reborn and given a second chance. To redeem ourselves of our sin. Of course we can't do that without a life essence of which to leech upon and take care of us when we're young. We're reborn as infants. Or, rather, they are. I was not. They are trapped in crystals. That. THAT is an Iridae."

Lucien followed after the woman, marveling for a moment at the way that she seemed to walk through the curtain of beads, he shook his head then followed after her, moving through them as carefully as he could so as not to get them tangled in his spines. He listened very closely, attempting to absorb every word of it.

"Insects?" He murmured then gave a nod, "Ah! That makes it makes sense then." Why those butterflies and Fireflies had been fluttering around him in such a friendly manner, he was blindly carrying around their Guardian around his neck of course they would have interest not in him but in the necklace itself.

He looked down at it for a long moment, so he was to the Crystal what Rayne was to him? He was here to protect her, take care of her, watch her grow? He nodded his head, "I see... umm... How do I free the little one?" He would worry now about the caretaking of the Iridae and worry about his mother's reaction later.

"At the moment, Insect is quite literally leeching your life force. You would have noticed the pulsating, like a heart, by now. Once it has enough of your essence, it will crack and it's essence will come out. It stays that way for up to three days before becoming an infant child. You're bonded to her. If she dies, you die. Or, rather, a large part of you dies. If you die, she dies. At least, until she's an adult..."

Questions, questions questions. Always the same ones. It was the perfect punishment for the Death Iridae. Absolutely perfect.

Leeching off of his life? He wondered if that was something that he should worry about, then decided against it. If the little one, the little girl according to what the frightening woman in front of him had said, if she needed life force from him to grow then... well she was free to have what she needed from him.

"Now that is something I understand, my mother and I share a similar sort of bond with my Guardian." Without Rayne he would fade, which meant that if anything happened to Rayne there would be a sort of... domino effect? He would have to explain it to her, just so she knew. Though she wouldn't risk anything since she had so many children that depended on her as it was.

"I will be careful." He murmured then chewed on his lip, "Is there anything else that I should know?"

"She won't remember. She won't know. Let her keep that innocence," The Medium responded, her face softening for just a moment, "I didn't get a second chance," her face hardened again, "I Didn't deserve one. Now go, unless you have any more annoying questions."

Damnit. She had showed emotion.
Lucien tilted his head to the side before he nodded his head, "I will do just that." He murmured, giving her a smile, "And no I think I am out of questions at the moment. Thank you."

While he was curious as to what she meant about not getting a chance she didn't seem as if she were the sort that would want to talk about herself. In fact she seemed rather eager to get rid of him.

"Umm... can I come back?" He asked, "In case I do have more questions later?"

"If you must," she answered, standing up and leaving the room with the glowing crystal ball. The lights went out as she left and she seemed to disappear, leaving Lucien in pitch black. Perhaps it was a good thing that dark didn't bother him too much?

The cottage was damned creepy with light shedding on it. It was ten times as bad in the dark.

"Thank..." His words froze in his throat as she got up and left. He supposed that meant that he was dismissed huh, "Well now... I'm guessing that now we figure out how we are gonna tell my mom about you." He told the crystal.

He looked around the room, leaving from it then out of the front door quickly. She was no longer there so staying any longer would just be him intruding.

"You know what else?" He told the crystal, "I have to figure out how to tell Aylana about you too."

Aftermath

Running had always helped him when he was needing to think about something or when he was trying to avoid thinking about something, currently Lucien was torn between the two sensations. What was he to do? How was he going to tell them? How often did a person find a crystal necklace laying around and then later find out that instead of finding a necklace you were finding an... an... Iridae was it? He seemed to push himself a bit harder, running that much faster, his heart racing, breathing heavy. So now that he had this Iridae, a child, a... a... daughter, now what was he supposed to? His mother was going to throw a fit, she was going to go grey just watch because wasn't that how all of the grandmothers were? They had grey hair, they baked cookies, and they knitted... he could have laughed though attempting to see his mother in that sort of position. There was a better chance of either Eros or Jing doing that sort of thing then there was of his mother doing it... which left him worrying that much more. She'd said that she wasn't readying to be a grandmother, that he was supposed to becareful!

He came to a skidding halt, looking up at the sky. It was late, no wait early. The sky was changing, oranges and reds were starting appear through out the dark blues. Morning was coming already? Which meant that she would already be upset over him staying out so long, staying out over night... well maybe not. After all he didn't give a specific time that he was coming home but he did have a curfew... He gave a sighing sound then sat down, to watch the sky as it started to change, the sun rising up.

"Huh, look. Your first sunrise that you get to watch." He found himself murmuring to the necklace, then he leaned back on his elbows. And here he thought his brother Yukito odd for talking to his plants, not he was talking to a necklace. Which brought to mind a question that he should have asked that creepy woman when he was talking to her. Did she, the Insect Iridae, hear him when he talked to her? Or was she unable to hear since she was trapped inside the crystal? Would she be able to hear him when the crystal cracked since that would mean there was a hole in the crystal and sound should get through? Why did questions come to him now that he was away from her? He looked back in the direction he'd come from before shaking his head. He wasn't brave enough to head back there already. He supposed he would talk to the crystal if he wanted to, after all people talked to babies when they were inside there mother right?

He laid back on the ground, "Your new... erm... Grandmother Rayne is a fun person. Once she gets over the shock I am sure she will just love you." He murmured, it was as if he were trying more to assure himself of that. If he told her soon then it would give her plenty of time between now and when the Iridae baby appeared to get used to the idea. Or at least he was pretty sure of it... right?

"I don't think that I can keep calling you 'Iridae Baby' or 'Insect Guardian' can I?" The baby was going to need a name, need clothing, need all sorts of things that Lucien wasn't ready for. He gave an 'ah-ha' sound as he sat up, his mother was a packrat, she didn't get rid of anything which meant that if he went searching he would be able to find all the stuff from all of her kids when they were little! And he had plenty of old toys from when he was little still hanging around in his room so he was all set there, the bed though... how was he supposed to get it without drawing attention to himself? He wasn't sure if he would be able to tell his mother about... his... ahh daughter quite yet. Hopefully soon though, before she appeared. That would make things a little harder now wouldn't it?

'What's that Lucien?' 'Oh this is just your grandbaby' 'Oh, I see. Hahaha... wait what?' 'Yeah, her name is...' the train of thought ended there and he shook his head rapidly to force away all reminants of it, "Ok... first things first. We find you a name." He said as he pushed up to his feet, it was a stall he was aware of that. He was going to use the finding of a name for his daughter as a way to keep from having to face his mother with the topic as of yet but... it was nessassary.

Maybe he could talk to someone else about it? Someone with a child? Oh...

Aylana had daughters didn't she? He could ask her about it, how she had brought it up to her mother... then again that would bring about the reason for why he was asking her about it. That would bring him to having to tell her, it was like a toss up. Which should he talk to first? Which would be easier to talk to first? He gave a groan, "I think... think mind you that Aylana would be easier to talk to." He murmured once more to his necklace... Daughter, "So I think we will see about talking to her and until then we will work on secreting all the baby things into his room, he could hide them under the bed until they were needed. This was just another grand secret for him to plot and plan until he was ready to bring it into the light.

Lucien gave a little smile, "Everything will get sorted out. I'm sure it will." He said, then headed for home.

Incriminating Evidence

Journal

So here I am writing in my old journal again, I don't do this to often as it leaves behind a source of my secrets and I have never liked that idea. I want for my secrets to remain just that. I find the urge to write about this though, I am attempting for the first time in a good while to be sneaky. I wonder how this will go... I have a good idea where things are though. My mother gives me some odd looks here and there when I come back carrying a box or bag up from the basement or down from the attic but aside from that nothing of yet. I think first she wants to try to figure out what I am up to before she starts to question me.

Lucien looked towards the door hearing footsteps outside of it, there was a pause in front of his door, a shifting and then whoever was out there kept on going. He was putting his money on it being his mother, she was thinking on coming in then decided against it. He gave a flick of his tail looking back down at his words to read them over, tapping his pencil against the notebook a moment before sitting up. His tail started to last a moment and he forgot about his writing as he looked down at the necklace that hung from around his neck, laying his hand over it. A smile spread over his lips, "I have still yet to look for a name for you." His mother had among her books one with names in it, he'd snagged it first but while he'd set to work on taking other things he hadn't got back to it. Without it he'd not found a name either.

Journal

I have learned that my mother wasn't to into the baby cloths thing, the ones that she had for me were mostly oversized shirts. I find myself curious as to why that is. Not a single pair of little pants that I can find but I guess the big shirts can double as dresses right? Maybe? Umm...

If he talked to his mother about he was sure that she could help him out with the finding of girly type clothing for the little one, Aylana could help to... both of which would involve him telling them that the trinket he wore was more then just that, more then just a shiny. He'd still hadn't come up with an opening line for that one, 'Hi Mom can we talk, I was just curious when you said you wouldn't be pleased with grandchildren anytime soon how not pleased did you mean?' he doubted that would go over any better then, 'Hi Grandma' would, "You chose me to try to get me in trouble." He told the necklace though his tone was a teasing one. He lifted his pencil up to chew on it, oversized canines leaving deep gouges in the wood of the pencil before he lowered it again.

Journal

My mind tells me that it would be best to talk to Aylana first. She has kids so I think that she would know how to approach one's mother about them. Maybe I can get advice from her? I want to figure this out, want to be a good parent. Even if it means me getting into trouble with my mother over it I told the Lady that I would do good by the little one. I will speak with her about it soon enough. ~ Lucien

It was a promise that he didn't mean to break. The journal was closed and tossed aside, Lucien rose up to his feet and he stretched out, if his mother was down in her room that gave him time to sneak off again. To head back into the attic and back to rummaging around for more stuff for the little one. He wanted to be all ready before she showed up if that were possible.

He opened his door, looked back and forth before hurrying along down the hall and through the door that would bring him into the attic. It clicked closed quietly behind him... and his mother emerged from her room and snuck forward into his. It seemed she was determined to figure out what was going on...

O_o ...

Rayne's eyes were wide, her face was pale, her ears were laid back against her head, and she was unmoving as stone in a shocked sort of way, "No... no. I..." She had to read that wrong, right? She looked the journal over, turning it from one side to the other, then upside down as if that would help to change the content... was tempted even to shake it or throw it... Of course, there was no way that she could have read it right as that would mean that Lucien was going to be a father. On top of that he was going to be a father NOT with Aylana as it had mentioned looking to her for advice on the up and coming child...

What was going on?

Who was the 'Lady' that he'd spoken of?

The mother of the child... it had to be, it didn't give a name for her though, where she could be found, who she was, it was so vague... Damn it! Why did he have to make it so very vague! No doubt the reason was due to what the begining of the entry had said? About him wanting to keep his secrets to himself? And she would be damned in there were a secret he had at the moment that was any bigger then this...

Her baby was going to have a baby?

Her hands closed the journal carefully, as if afraid that somehow Lucien would know that she'd read it if she weren't gentle with it. She reached over to replace it in the exact spot that she'd pick it up from, and she looked down at it in an accusing sort of way. As if it were the books fault for telling her what it had. She almost wished that she had done the right thing, not the mom thing, and NOT invaded the privacy of her child. For real she'd meant only to peek in, snoop around some, not read his journal. It was sitting out though, a pencil was to which had a mangled, half eaten looked to it. That was what made her look, a pencil in such condition spoke of strong emotion. The writer was thinking intently on something while he was writing or he wouldn't have gnaws his writing instrument almost in half now would he?

This was not what she was expecting.

A fight maybe, problems with something from his past, whatever it was that had been going on with him and Aylana last time the femme Fa'e had visited maybe but this...

She pushed up to her feet a bit dazed as she headed out of the room after she decided that before she confronted him about all of this she needed a moment to sit down, to think to try to sort out all of the mixed and very confused emotions out that she was suddenly suffering with. It was the complete and totaly wrong idea now going through her mind now about her son's situation though she had no idea...

Midinight Naming

It was late, everyone in the house was asleep by now aside from one person who was reading by the light of a star map. He was glad in this moment that he didn't really need all that much light to see by. Especially with what he was doing. He'd finally sat down to flip through the book he'd found, the name book to try to find something that would suit the Iridae that was hanging around his neck in crystal form currently. He was half way through the book already and he'd not found anything that really sounded right, hadn't found a name that seemed to suit a 'Guardian of Insects'. He was sure that there would be a name that would jump out at him, one that would suit her well. It just wasn't located in A-M was all. He started into N giving a bit of a yawn as he did so.

He flipped the paged, scanned, flipped scanned, yawned, started to flip again when a word caught his eye making him turn back, butterfly. He scanned over the page once again to find it, then gave a little whistle, "Would you look at that..." He murmured, smiling some. It said 'Butterfly Chaser' under the meaning of the name 'Nova'. He couldn't get a more perfect name then that now could he?

"Nova." He murmured, looking down at the crystal, "How does that sound to you?" He closed the book and tucked it under the matress of the bed where it wouldn't be found unless someone was looking for it. Lucien rolled over onto his back, gazing up at the ceiling, watching as the pattern of stars moved about, it was relaxing and always had been. It was one of those things that watching it made him quite sleepy. His red eyes gave a flutter and sank closed... He didn't hear the sounds of many small feet leaving the sanctuary of 'Under the Dresser' and missed the few scorpions that lived there coming out, they climbed moved over to the edge of the bed before climbing up the blanket. The group with their leader, slightly bigger then the rest due to much time spent in Scorpio's presence, looked the scorpion Fa'e over, eyes landing on the necklace. They weren't the same as insects, still though they could feel the one inside the same as their cousins. They were drawn to her as their cousins were either, instead they just found themselves curious over the presence.

/What is it?/ The big one finally voiced in a language that only their own kind and Lucien would understand.

The Fa'e stirred, eyes opening a crack and looked over at them, "Huh?"

One shifted closer, tail lifting to point at it, /That, what is that... thing?/

He blinked a couple times, starring at the scorpions in surprise, they didn't really like him, didn't really ever want anything to do with him so for them to come forth and actually begin a conversation with him... /Its a necklace./ He answered simply, hand laying over it in a protective sort of way. They didn't like him so why should he trust a bunch of freeloaders that used him to fetch them food?

The set of scorpions gave him a look that clearly said, 'Ya, think?' in reply.

/Ugh... fine, fine. Its a special necklace, a crystal called Iridae. An Guardian Angel is inside of it./ He explained to them, hoping that it was sufficient enough for them. Enouch so that they would go back to their hidey-hole under the dresser. There was a long, draw out pause form them and then another question.

/Guardian of?/

He gave a hissing sound, /Insects, what does it matter your not bugs./

Another drawn out silence, the leader clicked his claws, /We felt the Power, that is all Scorpion Child./ With that they seemed to dismiss him, turning and vanishing off the bed and back into the shadows. Lucien made a face, "Ignore them Nova, they aren't worth your time." He said, speaking normal now so they wouldn't catch what he was saying. He would rather not have his daughter hanging out with them.

Cracked

He was pretty sure that this was a dream, not one of his though he could tell. His dreams were never this nice, there weren't rolling hills, fields as far as the eye could see, or a rainbow of different critters moving about him. He sat up, looking around and he could tell that this was someone else's dream because he didn't feel part of it, felt separated like watching something from a distance. The flowers had no scent, he couldn't feel the wind, and the colors were a bit muted.

Off in the distance there was a shape, the barest outline of someone that he seem to couldn't make out, a soft voice singing in a language that he couldn't understand that seemed carry, and made the insects around the area almost seem like they were dancing. He took a step forward, wanting to get a better look... and the world around him seemed to waver and he stummbled, the world vanished and he was falling...

Lucien came awake with a little jolt, looking around as if he'd been hit with cold water... then realized that he had. He had been outside, sitting, reading, and... gathering bugs as was normal at the moment before he'd fallen asleep and now it was raining on him. While a pleasent surprise as it brought down the temperature around him a bit it was still a bit of a shock. The bugs had all gone, no doubt off to seek shealter out in the trees around where he had been laying.

"What an odd dream." He murmured, stretching out. He must be hanging out with the bugs to much, they were starting to invade even his dreams... Wait the bugs weren't ever around for him and that dream was most definately not his... his red eyes fell down to the crystal around his neck, his eyes taking in several things. There was a spiderweb of cracks in the surface, at first that made his heart skip a beat in fear that somehow Nova had gotten hurt, then he sat the misty colors around the necklace itself, coming from the crack in it surface. His eyes got huge and he gave a sound of surprise, "N-Nova?" His hand lifted up carefully as if to try to touch the mist though it only swirled around his fingers, "Was that your dream?" He asked of her, smiling some.

She'd had such a peaceful dream that he couldn't help but smile. A smile that faded a bit when he realized what the crack meant, that she was half way ready to make her appearance... which meant that he was running out of time to gather things for her and tell his mother about her. He'd been able to tell Aylana, that had been easy enough, it went rather well too. But this... To tell his mother was something that he was dreading a bit. Pushing to his feet he started back towards the house, tilting his head back to enough the rain on his skin before stepping inside, shaking off the water.

"Lucien your not a dog." Came the voice of Jing who was standing over the stove, stirring something in a pot. It wasn't often that he cooked instead of Eros, interesting. He drifted over to look into it, "Stew." He was told. Good stuff, though he wouldn't admit that his brother made better food, mostly because the kid obessed over it, made it into his life's work to get better and better.

"I'm gonna go up and change into something dry then before its done." He said, hurrying through the kitchen, diningroom and around to head up the stairs, meeting his mother halfway up, "Hey, Mom."

Rayne blinked, opening her mouth as if about to say something, ears flicked then it closed.

"Are you ok?" He asked, tilting his head to the side, she still seemed a bit odd when she was around him and it was worrying him a little bit.

"Oh, umm... yes. I am fine." She said, then blinked, "Is your necklace broken? I can fix that for you." She reached out towards it...

Lucien jerked back, "No! No... its fine um..." Explaining the crack meant explaining the rest, "Will tell you later, I need to change ok?" He moved around her and bolted up the stairs, bedroom door closing behind him.

"More secrets." She murmured, sighing a bit then headed down the rest of the stairs.

An Awkward Dinner...

The family had sat down for dinner, everyone was there for the first time in a while all in their seats while Eros set out several different plates and bowls that were full of various foods, something for everyone. He and Jing had both done the cooking tonight since everyone was going to be there, it was easiest that way so that Eros didn't burn himself trying to get it all done himself. Lucien was watching none of them but his mother, his eyes on her watching the way that she was seeming to stare at her plate seeming to be lost in thought. He tilted his head to the side watching her closely, "Mom. You ok?"

She gave a jolt and looked over at him for a moment, "Huh? Oh. Yeah, I'm sorry." She murmured, reaching over to pull a bowl over to herself taking onto her plate what she wanted. It was like a ritual, their mother got what she wanted first and once she had it...

Then everyone else was moving, all of the kids in the house and Jing snatching up what they wanted and might want onto their plates, a dangerous game in which someone had the chance to lose a hand while trying. Lucien was lucky as there was only one that was competing with him for the stuff that he liked the best, the raw meat and that was his dragon brother Marik. When all of the food had been cleared out of the bowls there was then the sound of chewing from all around. Occasionally someone would speak up but it was a relatively quiet meal until everyone's hunger had the edge taken off, then everyone slowed down and coversations started up.

"It was great." This from Marik who rarely started a conversation himself, "I went to the mall with my bunny."

Rayne looked over at him, shaking his head, "She has a name Marik." She told him.

He looked over at her with purple eyes, "Huh? Oh, right. Fine. I went with Rini, my bunny. She gave me a necklace." He lifted it up with a claws hand.

"Thats cute." Eros filled in when his mother missed out on her normal spot of compliement, she seemed to be starring over at Lucien again. He wondered what was going on, then again everyone was thinking that. She had the eyes of all of her sons and Jing on her at the moment. She seemed oblivious at first, then looked around.

"H-Huh?" He met every pair of eyes for a moment before she went back to her dinner, stirring it around, "Thinking."

There was more silence, all of them waiting it seemed as if hoping that she go on... it didn't seem to happen though. Everyone then seemed to go back to their food. Everyone but Lucien who was watching her closely. She had been avoiding him the worst for a while now, telling him the oddest excuses so that she hurry off in a random direction. He set his fork down on his plate with a clatter, "I would like to know what it is that I did to make you act like this." He said finally, unable to deal with this anymore.

Silence suddenly reigned throughout the diningroom and Rayne's eyes lifted from her plate to her son, blinking, "Lucien... not now." She murmured, looking around then shook her head.

Lucien blinked a couple times, so that said it right there didn't it? Whatever was going it was his fault... He pushed up to his feet, "No, right now. You have been doing your best to avoid me for a long time now and I want to knwo what is going on!" He said. The outburst seemed to make the quietroom grow even more so, even the crickets that were gathered around as close as they could get to him as they could without endangering themselves went silent.

Rayne was suddenly on her feet as well, fine! He wanted a confrontation then he would damn well get one, "You want to know? Fine! I know Lucien and I am very, very disapointed in you!" She cried, hands hitting the table.

"Know, know what! And disapointed in what!" His tail was tail rapidly now, his eyes narrowed and flashing.

"Lucien, Rayne you should calm down.. and..." Jing started in attempts to stop the fight before it started and failed.

"Stay out of this!" Lucien and Rayne both said, glarring at the Doushikai a moment before their gazes met again, the air between them all but crackling.

"I know about the baby!" She yelled.

There were a couple gasps from some of those sitting there watching the show.

Lucien looked dumbstruck and missed his chance at trying to interject.

"I know about it and I am pissed off!" It wasn't often that she got angry let alone pissed, "And I think its... its... wrong! Who is she? The woman that you got pregnate! Does Aylana know?! Do you have any idea what that would do to her its awful!"

"What... the hell..." He blinked, "What the hell! Yes Aylana knows about Nova and... What are you talking about? What woman?"

"The Lady that you were talking about in your journal!"

Lucien gave a choked sound his tail lashing that much harder, "You read that!" He cried, feeling horrified at her getting into his journal, reading the secrets that he held so close to his heart. Was this the only time that she had done it? Had she before? What all did she know... he shook his head. No, apparently she didn't know anything more then speculative information if she were going to ask such questions of him, "Woman... I can't believe you think I would do that."

"Then who is Nova!"

He lifted his hand to the sixwinged necklace around his throat that was seeming emit a yellow mist about it, "This! This is Nova. Nova is an Iridae, an angel. Her crystal is cracking which means that she is going to show up soon from the CRYSTAL!" He gave a shudder, "And the Lady I was talking about is another Iridae, a scary as hell woman I met that explained to me what Nova was. I just thought it was anohter necklace that the crow that lives near here stole from you until she did!"

Rayne opened her mouth... and nothing came out. She seemed completely unsure of what it was that she was supposed to say now. Her foot had gone in her mouth up to her knee and she was struggling to get it free... She didnt' get the chance though as he shoved back a step, chair hitting the ground with a loud clatter and slammed out of the dining room, took the stairs several at a time and the was the resounding SLAM of his bedroom door form upstairs.

Rayne sat down and look at the rest of the family, "Eat." She said, ears laying back.

Everyone obeyed.

Open RP!
--------

Vin whistled a happy tune. Listening to his voice echoing out through the stagnate air. The two where heading out yet again to the beach. It seemed to be there favorite local spot to relax and have some fun... and on the plus side it kept the little blue baby content.

The wild elf adorned in a full body of tattoos removed his shoes just as soon as they finally hit the sand that lined the grain plane from the smooth concrete sidewalk.
"Yay we... are finally here!" Vin said smiling down on the grumpy looking Arranos. The baby obviously had a look of 'let me down' written across his face, but his guardian wasn't going to allow such a thing.
"I'll let you down in a minute," Vin mumbled, reaching around to retrieve the rolled up brown colored towel from his backpack.

The guardian set down the child and began unrolling the soft towel out. Unaware of what Arranos was getting into.

A bright red and white looking creature began to scurry across the sand. Kicking up sand with every foot step it took. Arranos saw this and instantly thought of the animal as a toy. With a happy resounding gurgle the giggle. The blue baby began his hunt.

Lucien was grummbling as he walked down along the beach, it had been a while since he had been here, almost a year or something like that. He looked out over the water, watching it come in and out in waves. His tail swished back and forth a moment before his attention was draw to the ones that were following him and he gave a sighing sound. This was so embaressing... By the time he'd made it to the beach with a whole swarm of various critters following after him, mostly the winged kind. Butterflies, bees, moths, dragonflies, and a few other types. Lucien lifted his hand and waved it to attempt to get them to drop back a bit but that only worked for a moment before they returned.

Shaking his head he turned to look around, catching site of the others that were there, normally it wouldn't mean anything to him. There were people everywhere after all. It was the fact that the necklace about his neck seemed to react to them. He looked down at the sixwinged gem curiuosly.

The young red haired man stepped onto the soft sandy beach, but his arms were occupied with a small four-armed bundle of white haired joy. Though joy didn't seem to be what crossed the infant's face as she buried her face into the crook of the man's neck. Obviously the child was objecting to something about the environment. The man glanced down at the back of the child's head as he was unable to efficiently move his head to get a proper look.

Blaed sighed a bit jostling her gently to get her to lift her head away from his neck. It didn't seem like a good idea to let the fanged infant anywhere near his neck. Not to say he didn't trust the babe, but still accidents did happen. He didn't particularly feel like being a statistic.

"C'mon, Metis, it isn't that bad out here is it?" Blaed muttered to the child in a cajoling tone as she indignantly looked up at him for the jostling. The child referred to as Metis only gave a soft unhappy whine and squinted at him as if to make a point.

Vin sighed in relief and flung himself backwards into the sand. It was hot out, but it was still a rather nice day. No clouds hung from the blue sky. Vin finally woke up to reality.
Where’s Arranos?

"Arranos?" Vin shot himself back up and panicked like no other. "Arranos?" Vin scratched at his head. Looking to his left, a trail of two lines edged there way down through the sand and down a small hill.
"Ah.. ha!" Vin mustered up.

Following the two lines. The guardian found the baby of blue. Almost with his hands around the red crab, who was annoyed by the time the guardian had found the two.
"What are you doing?" Vin reached out and latched onto the child. "Next time don't run off like that!" Vin smiled. Arranos returned a grumpy grin.

Arranos pressed his face into the guardians shoulder. Yawning a bit, being a little tired out from the heat of the sun. The blue baby began to rub his head back and forth on Vin's shirt.

Lucien lifted his hand up to run it through his hair, brushing it back. He didn't say anything just watched the other man and the child before looking down at Nova's crystal, curious upon whether or not what he was guessing was true. He wanted to ask but would it seem a little off? To go up to someone at random and go 'excuse me but is your child an Iridae?' instead he sat down in the sand looking over the water but listened closely.

Maybe he would get a clue that would tell him what he needed to know? Then he would be able to ask them things he'd not been able to ask the Medium. He gave a sound of relief as a few of the bugs flittered off, butterflies, to move lazily about Arranos seeming drawn to him due to his coloring, maybe they thought him a flower Lucien thought to himself.

Blaed felt naked without his rapiers, but he left them at home since he had no intention of exposing his newly emerged child to such things yet. He looked around the beach quietly getting an idea of the people surrounding him. An elf with a blue child, another interesting looking man sitting at the beach as well, and yet he wasn’t sure if he should approach either of them. It was not in the man to be shy.

He could be subtle, however, and thus he moved along and sat down a few feet away from Lucien, as if he had just so happened to choose that spot at random. This illusion was shattered as soon as the man had gotten the four-armed and winged infant situated upon his lap he addressed Lucien with a nod and then peered over at Vin and Arranos thoughtfully.

Metis peered over at Lucien as well. The person’s appearance intrigued her quite a bit. The blue child wasn’t exactly in her line of sight yet.

Vin's elf ears perked. Hearing the rustling of sounds behind him in the distance. Stiffening his pose, Vin turned his head to the left to see who it was that had arrived at the beach.

It was a man. Clad in red and black, one who had to be the oddest looking people he had ever seen in his life... but that’s not what caught his Elvin eyes. It was the gem hanging off his neck. A six winged butterfly with a smoke pouring out of it. Vin's eyes grew large in size as he quickly turned away.
Are they stalking me now?

Vin shook his head and smiled down to Arranos. The baby had a grumpy looking grin on his face. Peering over his guardians shoulder. Arranos' pinched his eyes and he focused on the child with multiple arms. Making a grabby hand reach out motion with his own hand.

Vin gave Arranos a pat on the but as he sat the child down on there brown towel. Obviously trying to ignore the two as much as possible.

Lucien looked over at the small, multi armed child a smile appearing on his lips. She reminded him of someone that he knew. He lifted his normal hand to give her a small wave then to the father, since the man had been polite enough to nod at him, "Nice day." He preferred the warm weather even if it brought out all sorts of bugs that wanted nothing more then follow around the crystal that he wore.

He was, at the moment oblvious to what the parent to the blue child was thinking, it was chance that brought him here and he was trying his best to keep quiet, not to ask a bunch of questions of the two of them.

It was hard though... and finally he blurted out to Blaed, "This is gonna sound odd but... is she an Iridae?" He flushed a little after he said it, as if it were one of the hardest things the teen had to do. Of late though he'd gotten into the habit of keeping to himself and those closest to him. Addressing strangers was a bit odd.

Metis merely copied the waving motion with her own hand looking quite befuddled at the motion. It didn't seem logical to her, but weird looking man seemed interesting enough for her to consider echoing actions back at him.

The red-haired man glanced over at Lucien as he spoke and blinked grinning lightly, "I was going to ask you the same thing," he indicated to crystal about Lucien's neck which had a wisp coming from it. It showed that he had indeed noticed the crystal as well, but he didn’t show it when sitting next to the young man, "I just got a bit sidetracked is all. Yes, my little one is an Iridae." He responded to the question easily. Blaed felt he could at least trust Lucien since he also had a crystal. The red haired man was, however, not sure what to assume about the blue child and the elf.

The four-armed infant was now noticing movement and was watching Vin and Arranos. The blue child was now within her sight and he was making grabbing motions. The white haired girl canted her head slightly to the left. It was bright outside, but at least there were enough interesting individuals to keep her occupied.

Arranos grumbled with a frown on his face. Staring blankly up at his guardian. A look of 'how dare you!' written on his face. The child's emotions seemed to change just as much as his own diaper does.

"What’s up?" Vin whispered, trying to keep his voice down. But his Elvin ears twitched as a single word violated his hearing. 'Iridae' Vin heard the two talk about.
"They must be..." Vin mumbled again, but this time a not just to himself.

Arranos tilted his tiny figure to the left, trying to avert his eye sight around his guardians frail figure. Trying to keep the other child in his own range of sight. It was her wings and the string that hung off them that intrigued him the most. Having the urge to chew on the string.

Lucien gave a sigh of relief then smiled, "Yeah, she is too." He said, motioning to the one around his neck. He could relax a bit now, had the man not known what he was talking about he didn't know how he would have reacted, no doubt have been rather embaressed. He looked over to Metis for a moment then back to the crystal, "Its hard to believe that this crystal will change into a child." He said, his long scorpion tail swishing back and forth behind him.

He was having a bit of a hard time articulating it would seem. He gave a bit of a laugh, "Sorry, I don't often go up and talk to people at random." He said glancing over to Blaed, "Was a bit curious though, if I am bothering you feel free to tell me."

Blaed chuckled a bit and nodded, "You may call me Blaed by the way. This little one is Metis." He indicated the infant girl with the nod of his head. The way he introduced himself, however, indicated that Blaed was more of a nickname of sorts. A name he seemed to just offer up as a quick introduction or just on a whim to use around various people. Whatever his reasons were he kept them to himself for now.

The red haired man nodded to Lucien quietly, "It is, isn't it? My sister doubted it more than I did," Blaed laughed lightly and shrugged, "it's easier to be skeptical than it is to believe..."

Metis was intent now upon watching the blue boy or at least what she could see of him. Her wings sometimes shivered or the wind would blow across the beach ever so gently causing the string to sway ever so tantalizingly.

Blaed waved a hand dismissively at Lucien's comment, "I talk to people at random because I find that I meet interesting folks that way, and trust me if I hadn't wanted to chat I wouldn't have seated myself so strategically," he grinned a bit and shrugged, "curiosity often gets the better of me."

Arranos eyed the wavering string on the multi-limbed girls wings. Causing a bit of drool to run down his mouth. It looked like the most enjoying thing in life to chew on. Arranos began to budge and crawl over his guardians lap.

"Did you two say Iridae?" The elf called out. Keeping his frail figure turned away from the other two. Unsure of what he should do in this kind of situation. Vin was beginning to worry, two more Iridae. They must have fallen for some odd reason. Vin looked down at Arranos. Wondering why he had fallen himself.

"Sorry I don't mean to edge my self into your conversations... it's just the moment seemed to be right!"

"My name is Lucien." He said, introducing himself. He knew what it was like to have secrets so he wasn't one to push even if there was that moment of curiousity that he brushed away, "And I shouldn't be as I have seen a lot of odd things but a crystal becoming an angel child..." Even as a Fa'e and even after seeing some weird stuff that seemed a little odd to him. Metis though seemed to be all the proof that he needed that it was true even passed the Medium explaining it all.

"I find myself talking mostly to people I know of late." To much bother to try to make new friends but... this wasn't to bad he would have to admit.

He turned his head towards the voice of the elf that was with the blue skinned child at his question, shaking his head, "Not a problem. If we can start a conversation at random no reason why you can't join." Another guardian then. He wondered for a moment how many of Iridae were around after seeing these two.

"Nice to meet you, Lucien," he replied with a nod to the introduction. Blaed glanced down to make sure Metis was where he had put her last, on his lap, and she was.

Metis hadn't moved since she was placed there. She just staring at Arranos and watching how he reacted. The little girl did find it disturbing that there was a thin line of moisture coming out of his mouth. What was that?! Her small forehead wrinkled a bit. Did stuff like that come out of her mouth, too? Metis watched somewhat warily now.

Blaed glanced at the elf-like figure as he spoke up and chuckled, "Feel free to come talk with us, since you seem to know what we speak of," he invited, "I will try not to invade your personal bubble." He seemed to say as a promise. Vin seemed like he'd appreciate that sort of thing. Blaed himself had no 'personal bubble' of which he could ascertain.

Vin watched Arranos warily. Seeing the drool pour from his mouth. Vin reached for the a corner of the towel and cleaned off the drizzle. "What are you doing?" Vin shot the baby a confused glance, only to receive a grumpy glare in return.

The elf reached down and lifted his child up and turned his frail figure around and plopped Arranos back down, but this time the child had no objects in the way of watching the girl.

Arranos giggled and laughed. Throwing his hands up into the air in celebration of his victory. The blue baby tilted his head, seeing the look on the girls face.

“Yeah… I guess I do know much about what you are talking about, but not as much as the Medium does.” Vin scratched at his head.

Lucien was quite for a moment as he took in the two little ones, thought on his girlfriends daughter and it started to more and more sink in that he was going to be a father. One of those things that while he had known it for a while now after his talk with the Medium it was sinking in slowly. He lifted his hand up to fiddle with the crystal, watching the way the yellow mist floated around his fingers.

"I have a question since both of you have been through this and I have been unable to meet up with the Medium again to ask her. Do you have any idea of the little ones can hear anything while they are still inside of the crystals?" He'd found himself at times talking to it and he the question had been plagueing him.

Metis was now more conscious that she had a mouth and something was in it and it wiggled aimlessly as she grew more aware of it. What disturbed the infant more was that she couldn't see what was in her own face! If she can't see inward then she should try to take it out to see if she can have a better look at it. Thus her upper right hand reached into her own mouth to try and catch her own tongue so that she may pull it out. Metis struggled a moment before she managed to catch the seemingly foreign object in her mouth with thumb and forefinger. The texture of the tongue was displeasing but she tried to pull anyhow. Soon the pulling hurt, but not enough to make her stop at the moment.

Blaed watched the spectacle, only partially listening to Lucien and Vin as they spoke. He wasn't going to stop her yet. Metis wouldn't learn anything if he stopped her at this point.

"I always talked to her, but I am not sure if she heard me or not when she was in the crystal." Blaed admitted to Lucien.

Vin raised an eyebrow. Watching the girl stick a hand into her mouth. Tilting his head slightly. Vin lifted up his own hand and stared at it. Thinking that it must be food... and taste good... since she was trying to eat it. Arranos swiftly stuck his fist into his mouth and drool began to dribble out.

Vin tilted his head,
"What... are you doing?" The elf whispered. Staring at Arranos sitting in his lap. The elf shifted his gaze up to the other child and raised his own eyebrow.

"Weird these guys are!" Vin manage to muffle over his hearty laugh.

It gladdened Lucien a bit to hear that, so he wasn't the only one that talked to the crystal. Good, good. He looked down at Nova, smiling some. That made him feel a bit less odd about talking to her while she was inside of the crystal until she came out. Course being able to have one of his questions answered made a multitude more spring to mind, "One other question, what was it like when they appeared before you?" Was it something flashy and bright or would it be a surprise?

He really hoped that he wasn't going to drive the two older men crazy but when he found someone that may know the answers he was seeking he couldn't help but ask them.

He laughed a bit and shrugged, "I was kinda asleep when it happened. Nothing flashy that I can recall, I just remember feeling this weight on my chest and when I didn't open my eyes the little tyke started pulling on my nose." Blaed reached up a hand and rubbed the bridge of his nose, but he seemed in good humor about the event as he was still laughing. The red haired man didn't seem to mind answering Lucien's questions, and in fact seemed glad to.

Metis stopped and stared at Arranos quietly and slowly removed her hand from her mouth and wiped her hand on her father's shirt so as to wipe away the slobber residue. Her tongue was still hanging out and she had forgotten about it, until she clamped her mouth shut and by doing that she bit her own tongue with her fangs. The girl went very tense and tears began to well up. That hurt more than the pulling!

Blaed had nodded in agreement to Vin about the children's currently strange behavior and even took Metis' wiping her own slobber on his shirt in stride and simply laughed it off before returning attention to Lucien and Vin. The red haired man looked down at his daughter and frowned while lifting her into his arms trying to soothe her before she could have the chance to wail at the indignity of it all.

Vin slipped his hand out of his mouth and made a slish sloshing sound. Trying to taste if anything was left from his hand. Looking up at his guardian. Arranos released a long yawn before falling back on his chest.

Vin looked down at the baby.
"Looks like some one is getting ready for a nap," Vin shrugged his shoulders. "It looks like I better be heading out. It was very nice meeting you two." Vin stood up and retrieved Arrranos and flung the towel over his shoulder.
"I hope we do get to meet again!" Vin smiled and trudged through the sand.
"Oh and the name is Vin and this little guy is Arranos!" Vin laughed, almost forgetting to introduce himself earlier. He turned his frail figure around and headed off again.

Lucien watched as the one called Vin and his son Arranos headed off giving them a wave, "I hope to see you again too." He called after their retreating forms his attention then went back to Blaed and Metis, "I thank you for answering my questions. I have been rather curious about somethings about Iridae."

And really he had no exact idea where the Medium lived having found her by accident the last time.

"I probably should be going too. I headed out for a walk only and ended up quite a ways from home." He said, pushing up to his feet, brushing off the sand with his hand and tail, "I hope that we get to meet up again too, maybe after Nova arrives she will be able to make friends with Metis."

He was hopeful that Nova did better by making friends then he himself did.

Blaed freed a hand and waved farewell to Vin and Arranos as they introduced themselves and then departed. He himself started to stand up since they all seemed to be getting ready to depart. Metis had long ago snuggled up to her father's chest and was sniffling and whimpering softly. He dropped his hand and brushed his fingertips over her hair as he looked back at Lucien with a smile.

"I think that'd be wonderful," he said in response to Lucien's offer, "and perhaps we can become friends through that as well." He sounded quite sincere as he said this. Blaed smiled lightly, "We will have to find a way to arrange such a thing. I am afraid I have no pen or paper otherwise I'd offer my address."

Metis quietly started to doze off as she listened to the voices of Blaed and Lucien talk.

It wasn't as if Blaed was really expecting to make any sort of acquaintances this day, "I was going out to get Metis exposed to the world outside," he replied to Lucien's comment as to why he was out. Surely the younger man didn't ask, but it seemed good to know about the other's motives.

Lucien's hands patted his pockets a moment before shaking his head, "Ah... no. Sorry I don't have anything on me either." He said, feeling a bit foolish for a moment then shook it off. No, he'd had no way of knowing that there would be a need for exchanging adressess so how would he have known that he would need to bring such things with him.

"Maybe we will be lucky and cross paths again?" He wasn't sure on whether or not hoping for such such would help or not but at the moment since they lacked the needed stuff to exchange infor it was all that they had. And he wanted to meet up with them again, especially after Nova arrived.

The man grinned and shook his head, "No worries, we will meet up again. I like to roam quite a bit and I can be found just about anywhere." Blaed replied. Obviously it was his way of telling the other not to feel foolish or too badly. He seemed very confident about being able to meet up with the younger man.

"I am sure the Fates will see to it that we meet again," he nodded sagely, "and I will make sure that I at least have some business cards made or something to hand off to you." Blaed smirked.

Looking up at the sky a moment he squinted a little as if trying to determine something and then looked back down at Lucien, "T's getting late, my friend, and so I shall take leave now. You take care of yourself and your little one. I am sure she will be here soon." His arms were currently busy holding onto Metis and he dared not move them for fear of waking her, "I'd wave or bow, but I am sure you understand I am a little tied up." He chuckled and then simply nodded, "Good day to you, Lucien. It has been a good meeting."

With that he turned his body in the direction he figured home was and began to walk.

Lucien watched as Blaed and Metis headed off not long after Vin and Arranos and he stretched out all over before looking down at the sixwinged crystal, "Alright. I guess its time to head for home ourselves." He would hope that everything going on at home would have calmed down by now. It would be nice then he would be able to finally relax and not worry about what he was going to be asked next about his soon to arrive daughter.

Journal
After today it all seems that much more real to me, the whole experiance. It was one thing to hear about how Iridae worked and it was another to actually SEE them. I met Metis and Arranos two such children and their guardians Blaed and Vin while out on a walk. It was... a good experiance. I was able to ask of them a couple of the questions that were on my mind and got to see what an Iridae, passed the Scary Lady, looked like.

One of the little ones Metis made me think of Sati with her four arms and Vin of Aylana due to the blue skin. Only small things that reminded me of them as they were so different passed that. Now I can't wait now to see my little Nova.

I merely hope that between now and when she appears I can talk again with my mother, something that involves less yelling and more calm talking. She needs to be ok with it, I want her to be, want her to be happy, to see Nova, love Nova. To be... well a grandmother. I know it sounds odd but its something that I am hopeful for. Even though she had said she didn't want any grandchildren yet I can't see her rejecting on, she is to nice for that.

The journal was tossed over to land on the bed and he rolled onto his back, hand lifting up to the necklace, "It will be ok Nova. I just have to talk with her again and I am sure that she will be ok with this, with you. Don't worry about anything." He was a little worried, what if Nova could hear through the crystal? What if she heard the argument with his mother? He didn't want her first impression of Rayne to be that...
