Asa'nunu lapped up a last slurp of water, turning her pale head slowly behind her. Her son, Asegi. Why had U'yosi sent him over here? She held back a disgruntled growl, smiling slowly at her son. It wasn't that she didn't love her children, she just cared for them as she did all the clan. What was left of it. The young lioness tried to be there for her children and mate, really she did, but it was so hard, and she felt so weak by her grief.
"Very nice, my son." She murmured, eyeing the mouse. She was rather hungry, and the little rodent looked promising. Realizing she should probably say more, she paused, and went on. "You will someday be.."
Thinking for a long moment, she slid forward out of her sitting position and painstakingly nudged her son's ear. "As good a hunter as your father."
With that she glanced up at her mate, supposing she should go and speak with them as well. Asa'nunu was hungry, perhaps U'yosi had caught something. Without another word, she made her way over to her mate and daughter, giving them both a slight, polite nod.

Asegi was aboslutely giddy from his mothers wonderful comment. He knew she'd like his catch, but he'd have to get her some thing bigger next time for she only looked at his mouse and lost all attention toward that. He purred as she nudged him and leaned his head against her sturdy leg,
"I'm glad you like it mom."
He grinned and looked up at her, only to recieve a forced smile back, but he thought it was sincere. Suddenly, his head rest left him. Asegi stubled forward a bit but quickly regained his footed. He peered over at his mother, she was heading over to where her father and sister now stood. He grinned and quickly trotted after her, he was glad to see his sister she had been gone for ages or so it seemed. As he approached her, he swung a paw playfully at her shoulder and smiled,
"Hey Tsi'lihu! Where have you been?"

Asa'nunu watched her mate with a steady gaze that could almost be uncaring, if you didn't know her as well as U'yosi did. Saying what she'd just said to her son had been the hardest thing Asa had done as of late. It would be even harder to speak to her mate.
The clan being slaughtered had put a distance between them neither could span, unless they both tried. Asa'nunu was buried too deeply in her grief to care, and her belly grumbled to remind her of something she should be caring about. Food. As was normal, the adolecent lioness had forgotten to eat for at least the last day, lost in her thoughts of the past. Why hadn't U'yosi been out hunting, and remembered to bring her something? She hadn't hunted for her own meal in ages. There were no other lionesses to hunt with, and the hunt only reminded her of what she'd lost.
A slight glance took in her daughter, and she smiled slightly. This was no forced smile, this small upturning of her lips. Tsi'lihu never bothered her unless Asa'nunu spoke first, and that was perfectly fine with her mother. And perhaps one day she would grow, and have her own cubs, and they could hunt again. Her daughter was the last becon of hope, in Asa'nunu's eyes.
But food once again tantalized her thoughts, and she blinked at U'yosi. What could she say to him, in the least amount of words, that said she was hungry and she wanted him to find something to eat for her?

There was a light pat, pat as a herd of brown, black, and white impalas stepped daintily through the mud on the rivers edge. A small female named Manyonyota scanned the river nervously for any sign of ripples or breaks in the water that warned of one of the fierce river crocodiles. Seeing no preditors and the others of her herd drinking, she pushed back her instinctive fear and lowered her head to sip the water. There were many varied smells along the river. Mud, grass, the smell of a rhinocerous herd and a wart hog or two. But mostly, she smelled the heard that surrounded her. There was no fear in their smell, or at least no more than was normal. The water was cool and queched her thirst wonderfully. Her eyes stayed wide in the center of their black spots, though. Predators were many and varied, and one never knew when a hunter would leap out to try and bring down an unwary Impala.

As her brother came nearer, Tsi'lihu kept the soft smile upon her maw, and closing her eyes, she gave a soft purr for all answer, reaching up to bat her right back back at him; the movement was slow, delicate, almost as if she could have been broken... but this couldn't have been further from the truth. Sure, the young lioness was withdrawn, and did her best to keep herself unknown, but that didn't mean that she had no spirit... in fact, her spirit was as avid as a flame... she just had to learn how to express this outward.
Her mother's gaze locked with her own, and once more she smiled, her tail giving a light swish. however, as soon as the older lioness turned towards her father, Tsi'lihu knew that something wasn't quite right, and even though she had trouble comunicating and talking, the cub somehow knew perfectly well how to interprete what others though by their movements, just like others were normally forced to interprete her by HER own movements, "Hungry," she stated simply, turning to gaze up at her father, tilting her head to one side, her emerald eyes unblinking, awaiting an answer of sorts.

At the cool but faintly hungry look Asa'nunu was directing upon him, U'yosi adopted a respectful stance as she and their son came padding over. "Asa'nunu adu'ladi," he said, dipping his head. "It has come to my attention that it has been almost five days since the clan last ate. " The clan, he thought, looking around at the four of them, his small family. Asa'nunu would have it so, the clan, not the family. And he would do anything for them, for her. "For this, I apologise. Prey has been scarce. But I wished to ask for your assistance this time; earlier this morning I espied a gathering of preybeasts by the River. It will be easier to bring in food for us - for the clan - if you might hunt by my side." He lifted his dark eyes with a resolute stare, triyng to ignore for the while his two offspring.

Asegi grinned at his sister, man she was weird but he liked her. She was an interesting cub and perhaps that's why Asegi seemed to like to stick around his sister best, she didn't say much but she listened and he liked that. His stomach growled loudly in hunger and Asegi peered up at his parents meekly. What his father had said was true, he hadn't even noticed how long it had been since he had last eaten! He sighed and looked down at his dirty paws sadly. His fur had once been purely white, but his fondness of rolling about in the dirt had darkened it considerably, he needed to go take a splash about in the river when it was safe, then his fur would return to its gleaming white color. He wished he could have been older. He wanted nothing more than to be loved by his mother, and to prove to her that he was worthy, he would need to hunt, but a cub is no good at hunting. He had enough trouble stalking down that mouse and killing, a beast such as an antelope or something was totally out of the question. His drooped head turned to his sister and smiled, he slinked over to her and plopped down at her side, peering up at his mom adoringly, wondering what the clans next move was going to be.

The lithe cub tilted her head to one side, iddly wondering if it really had been that long since she had had food... her stomach making a small noise reminded her it HAD indeed been so long. She turned her face, directing a sheepish grin towards her brother, almost as if apoligising for both, having not been around and for the sligth noise her stomach had made.
Even though Tsi'hilu was quiet and shy, that didn't mean she wasn't warm with her familly... quite the oposite; all that what she didn't say in words, she showed with actions, and didn't a clever man once say that actions are worth more than a thousand words? Tsi'hilu believed so at any rate... it was too hard to try place in words what she felt, so instead she tended to show what it was she felt through actions.
Personally, she didn't mind being 'alone', but she also wanted to be able to count on her clan, her familly... they were the only ones she trusted.
slowly, she lowered her head, grasping her brother's tail within her maw, tugging softly as she growled low; maybe it was a good idea to allow her parents to talk whilst she and her brother played, she thought, since afterall... there was something between both adults going on that the cub couldn't quite grasp. They needed time. Maybe that was it.

Having her fill of the water, Manyonyota raised her head and turned to step back, letting another take her place. Suddenly, there was a roar and the water fountained up where she had been. A huge river allagator closed its many toothed jaws around the neck of the impala that had lowered its head to drink. With a gurgling scream from the impala, the alligator dragged it down into the water and to its death. The herd scattered with many cries of alarm, Many in their midst. They raced up the sides of the bank and onto the grass, milling in confusion. Many trembled and snorted, knowing how little it would have taken for her neck to have snapped between the predators jaws instead of her herd mate's.

Asa'nunu glanced to the cubs, and back up at her mate. If it was the only way for U'yosi to bring down a preybeast..she'd always thought him a better hunter than that. But if he wanted it so, she would not object. For now. When her hunger was sated, Asa might think differently. The clan needed food as well, and she couldn't let them go hungry.
"As you wish," she said with a faint interest, turning and eyeing the herd of impalas by the river. "We shall hunt at dusk, when the preybeasts are less likely to see us." She realized it had been five days since they'd ate, and cursed herself inwardly. How could she let her pack suffer, distracted by her pain? Her tail flicked, and she sprawled down on the grass, waiting until dusk. Nothing to do now but wait for the cloak of darkness.

Asegi responded to Tsi's growl with one of his own. He peered down at his tail, which seemed to be in the jaws of his sister. He stood and hopped away untill his tail was straight and then plopped himself down next to her, a nice could of dust rising around the two cubs as Asegi rolled around in the dirt. He smiled at her from his upside down state and grinned. He slowly rolled over to her and flung both paws onto her back and sighed contently. His eyes drifted to his parent. He had heard their conversation before, they were to wait for dusk. Asegi layed his head down on his' Tsi pillow' and licked his chops, finally... food! He smiled a very toothy grin at his sister and setteled down,w aiting for his dinner.

The lithe cub was more than content enough to follow about his brother's play, allowing him to lay down on her as she eyed him, a small sheepish smile curving her lips up; she loved her brother dearly... and if she had the choice, she's actually follow him to the end of the world.
Her mother talking about waiting till dusk caught Tsi'hilu's attention, and she slowly turned her head to watch her parents, lingering in the moments they made each and everytime the talked; they denoted tension... that was the tuth. However, there was little she could do, and besides, inside her childish mind, the tought was set aside, leaving room for the wonderful though of the food to come.
She couldn't help herself from purring, her tail swishing aimlessly from side to side, as she she too await for dusk... personally, she loved hunting sessions; watvhing her grownups hunt fascinated her... there was a lot of comunication in a hunt, but little to no words, it really fascinated her

Asegi layed his head down in his sister, his eyes still on his parents, mainly his mother, he was just admiring her. Unlike his sister, he found nothing strange about who his parents talked, maybe he just didn't want to see anything wrong. He sighd deeply, this waiting for dusk thing was pretty boring, he wanted to eat!
"Tsi, I'm boooooored! Lets go do something fun!"
He didn't know if his sister would have any ideas, but it was worth a try. He rolled off and lay belly up in the dirt, his rather dark eyes now at his sister.

Asa'nunu sensed her children watching her, but didn't devote a second thought to them. They were alive and well; that was enough for her to be informed of. Her tail flicked slowly back and forth in the grass, watching as the sun began to set. She remembered the nights the whole clan had watched the sun set, then turned out on a hunt. With a soft, almost inaudible sigh, she rested her pale head between her snow-white paws.
She would have to learn to deal with hunting this way, however odd it was. However wrong it felt. U'yosi had hunted for them ever since the rest of the clan had been slaughtered, and while that didn't seem strange, Asa'nunu hunting with her mate did. Males weren't supposed to hunt, definitely not with the lionesses. Lioness, Asa'nunu corrected herself.
But things weren't as they were once, and she felt the change of time settling over her fur. The adolecent lioness was still young, but she felt nearly as old as the dirt she rested upon. For once, she wanted to forget her children and her mate and be able to run free again. Which brought her thoughts to the next meeting of the clans. Perhaps Aya'tas would be there. That brought a delighted smile to her maw, and she dreampt of the next meeting, waiting for dusk.

Ina'li padded slowly on the hard ground, through the golden colored grass with quiet footsteps. The sun was beating down on the lion's back, but he kept moving trying to ignore it. The day was pretty hot, but he could still feel cool breezes every once and a while. As he made his way through the grass he came to a little area in the midst of the grassland with two trees side by side. It provided good shade for the time being, so he laid down under them, rolling on to his side and yawning. Though he hadn't found water, he did find decent shade... and that was good enough for now. Ina'li's claw stouched against the ground, scratching the dirt slowly out of boredom. His tail swung back and forth as he stared out to watch the waving feilds of grass. Maybe if he waited long enough... he'd see preybeast...
