"Can't disagree with that," he said idly, his tail swishing on the sand. The last page fluttered into the awaiting flames. He dropped the hollowed-out book on the sand.
The fire had once again screwed up his ability to see in the dark. He could barely see Nita and Natsumi now. He didn't care much, either. Natsumi had grated on his nerves for some reason. He'd been angry, and she'd just stood there and let him take things out on her. That wasn't how it was supposed to work, was it?
He brushed his hands together and start to walk past the two in the direction of the path back to the village. He'd finished what he came to the beach for. Never mind that the first law of the island was never to have privacy...

Nita frowned slightly at Zach, watching him drop the last bit of paper into the fire. As he walked off rudely, Nita grumbled and kicked some sand in his direction. Fortunately, the wind wasn't blowing hard enough to throw the grit back at her.
"Are you okay?" Nita asked Natsumi. "What did he say to you?" Her frown deepened and she patted the girl's arm.

Natsumi shifted uncomfortably as he walked past, looking back to Nita as her voice reached her. "I..." Natsumi stubmled, looking a bit shakey. "I bleeive.. I stared.. and then he was mad... Something about hurting people.." The whole experience seemed to be blurring in her mind now, no real memory of the whole thing sticking except the look on his face.. The way he threw his arms at her. And for whatever reason, Nita's kindness wasn't helping her calm down any... It only made her want to cling on the familiar woman and cry, though she tried to refrain from that.

Nita blinked. The whole explanation didn't make a lot of sense, but it was quite possible the encounter itself hadn't been exactly sensible. From her previous experience with Zach, he was prone to shouting and terrifying short girls.
"Hey, it's okay. He's gone now. He yelled at me once, too, and I was really glad to have someone there with me." She pushed her bangs out of her face and sighed at the small, smoky fire. "We should probably put this out..." The red panda girl started shovelling sand over the flames with one foot, careful not to get too close. Nita was actually the same way when upset; someone being too nice to her just made her fall apart more. And then she'd start hyperventilating and her face would be red and blotchy for hours. It suddenly occurred to her that with her leathery black nose, it probably couldn't get all red and swollen anymore.
Point one for being a red panda?

Natsumi nodded, he was gone.. still she felt bad in a way. Sure he had been beyond scary and agressive to her, but she had brought it upon herself, hadn't she?
She turned to the fire, nodding and giving a quick whipe of her eyes. "Yes..." she nodded, allready feeling better. Her heart was starting to slow back down, rational thought returning.. The intial panic was ebbing. She mimiced Nita's actions, sliding her webbed foot through the sand to kick it onto the fire. Slightly suprised by jsut how much more sand the webbing was catching. "Thankyou..." she offered a smile to Nita, looking better allready, dispite perhaps a bit of a red face.

"Don't worry about it. I guess he's just like that..." Nita sighed. Zach was one of the few people on the Island she actively disliked, the current situation only driving home her poor first impression.
She hid a grin, noticing how well Natsumi's foot worked as a shovel. "I think that's about it," she said, examining the remains of the fire, now reduced to a pile of ash and sand. "I'd meant to come out here and swim a bit, or just look at the water but... Would you like me to walk to you back to the village? Or you can stay out here a bit, I certainly don't mind." Nita smiled sideways at Natsumi, hoping the girl had calmed down a bit.

Natsumi nodded to Nitas statement. Fire was out, everything was good... In the time it had taken to cover the fire, she had calmed down significantly. Able to distract herself with the action at hand she had gotten her mind off of it.
She shifted, thinking over the two options a moment, she really just wanted to go hide in her duplex at the moment. "If... It is not too much trouble, could you walk me?" she bit her lip, looking to the shadowy figure of Nita hopefully. With the fire out, there wasn't much light, but the moon seemed to be doing a fairly good job. But at the same time, after that incident the dark was starting to creep her out.

Putting the fire out had also given Zach plenty of time to get far ahead of them, so they shouldn't run into him on the way to the village.
"It's really no trouble," Nita said, casting a very briefly wistful glance at the ocean. It would still be there tomorrow night, and she really didn't mind walking a friend home. She could see well enough in the dark anyway.
Nita began to walk, her furred feet leaving little prints that were quickly filled in by the shifting sand.
