I guess you could say it is. One moment your just watching it more and more and the next thing you know your writing fanfictions, drawing fanart, buying anime clothing, trading cards, magazines, action figures, video games, costumes, joining a fan website, jazzing your profile with pics from the anime, making your avatar look like an anime character, and the list goes on.

Of course anime is addicting!
The animators use the same ploy as soap opera writers to suck unsuspecting young (and not so young...) victims in.
What is this ploy you ask? A continuing plotline. These days, most cartoons are like random little strings of one-shots. You don't need to watch everything to understand whats happening. You can even start watching in the middle of an episode and understand whats going on. With anime (and soap operas and prime time television), the plotline is can be fairly complex and the same plot continues from episode to episode. If you start watching a new anime in the middle of the show, it can be hard to know what is going on because you do not have much background info on the show and plot.
This is one way you can get sucked in. You can spend a few episodes just trying to figure out what is going on and by the time you understand, your hooked. The interesting plot, fasinating characters and fantastic animation will have stolen your weak little heart within those few short episodes.
Another way to get addicted is with the 'to be continued' gimmick (it's often used in soap operas). Of course they can show both episodes at once in an one hour special or something, but what is the fun in that? With the 'to be continued' gimmick (or TBC gimmick), instead of watching the entire thing at once and getting it over with, you have to wait an extra week, waiting, wondering, obsessing over what might happen, making you feel that it is absolutely vital to watch the next episode, just so you can find out the conclusion.
An even crueler way, in my opinion at least, is to use the TBC gimmick more than once in a long string of episodes. Sometimes there can be four part episodes! That would be four weeks of agonized waiting. Each day feeling like an eternity. The show and upcoming episode completely monoplolizing your thoughts.
Another way fans get addicted is simply watching the premeire episode of a show. You watch it, decide you like it and watch it again the next week. And the next week and the week after that. Before you know it, you've watched the entire first season and have bought $300 worth of the shows mechandise. The creators use the starting episode to pull in loyal viewers. That is why the first episodes often seem to have better animation or funnier jokes.
There are actually many more ways they can be addicting but sometimes just nice animation, cute characters or fancy outfits can be enough to make a fan out of you.
I can go on for hours about the many plots and ploys of addiction and even go into explaining the physhology of all of it, but frankly I don't think any of you are really interested in the rest of it so I will just leave at this.
I might add on to this post later though.

I think anime's great especially if your ever bored and enjoy good story lines, plus you can always find an anime that will suit your viewing preferences like if you were intereted in mecha action or romantic comedies xd
