those are the things that Kishimoto didn't think about. Or maybe he'll explain it like this: when Gaara should fall the sand catches him softly, before he can bite his tongue if you mean while eating, I think it wouldn't be too far fetched to assue that Gaara is a slow eater, thus chewing slowly and bite for bite. Thus preventing himself from biting his tongue.
To all those who say that he'd have sand in his mouth: how do you think it will get there? It would have to force it's way very fast into his mouth, making it rather an attack than a defense. I imagine that that would hurt more than help.

Why would he? poison? hell if i was in his position i'd be terrified to eat. who knows what his crazy a** dad put in his food.... but in the end, i gotta admit it is rather unfeasable for Gaara to have NEVER felt pain. i mean, getting of the whole tongue biting thing, sickness. the kids gonna get sick. and we all know how much having a bad stomach ache hurts. so yeah, its a mistake. whoops^^

And has anyone even READ what I said before the second paragraph? A mangaka is only human, afterall. Kishimoto and every other mangaka doesn't plan all the details of their characters, considering that Gaara isn't a main character. he's an important character, yes, but the manga isn't called Naruto for no reason. And don't get me wrong, I do love Gaara and agree that it's impossible to NOT have felt any pain at all. It's just one of those things you'll have to accept that the mangaka didn't plan or thought about. But on a brighter note: It does make Gaara more interesting, to know that he never felt pain x3

Well he is a pretty slow person, it's that sand that is fast not him. So my guess is that he just does everything slowly. *shrug*

Pinumbra Zirumi The only thing I wonder is how he gave himself a tatoo. The sand is supposed to protect him, yet he made it hurt him?... there may be two logical explanations to that....
1. I've heard that tattooing doesn't hurt THAT much, so it might be that since he did it intentionally (and not intending to kill himself) the sand obeyed his command. 2. since his feelings were pretty much messed up badly at that point he could control the sand so much that it was possible to go around the automatic barrier/defense.This was on first page......if you watch carefully you will notice that as a kis gara didnt have it till he killed his da on a acdident and he cried .....bla bla blaw...anyways he was really mad and then all teh sand like got suked to his forhead and made that tattoo...but then all the sand feel out of his control.....but i have no clue why the sand went to his forhead....lol
