'Self Degrading'. It is less hurtful to self degrade then to have others to degrade you.
Like when people label you. People label themselves before others do because they don't want to get hurt when people DO label them.

well, i've getten though skin after YEARS of a live of being bullied. you can't stop others from hurting you, so why add additional pain by degrading yourself? i am always being looked down upon for petty reasons, and now the only thing that hurts me from them is the intention to hurt me. their words themselves don't affect me, because i know what's true or not. although, pushing away the positive comments from others can be hurting them too. i tend to do that, and i should probably lighten up on that. trust me, even with depression... i've never even been suicidal. i'm higher than thinking i'm worth nothing, though sometimes i still feel like it.

Yes, that's your case Mikki.
But for some others. People won't hurt you as much if you except your own 'label'. Or admit that they really are 'something'. Because when people do pay attention to you and see that 'something'. They will hurt you Tons more than you would've hurt yourself.
I'm not promoting Self Degrading. It's just that, if someone wants to do something. Let them do as they please. They'll figure out if it's wrong or not. If people keep on telling them that it's wrong to prevent them from doing something. We won't have ANY experience in the real world. And won't learn from the 'mistake' that we made.
Self degrading doesn't mean you have to push positive comments away either. I degrade myself. So people can't grade me with their own words. It is harsh to grade yourself. But, it's more painful to see or hear hurtful things about you.
And like you said Mikki. They're just words. We know the truth.
