i thought karate started in tibet, then it went over to egypt and kept going until it reached japan and thats when it got exposed to the world...that reminds me does anyone know anything about egypt martial arts?
My sensei told me that the symble where the guy has one arm up at a weird angle and the other is the same way but facing down (looks like a weird z kinda) is accually from the martial art.

Karate could have been to Tibet but not Egypt wrong direction to get to Japan. Old Okinawan Karate is a bit diferent than what you see today a lot of people are geting in to tricking witch has little if any combat aplications.

Weapons of Okinawax

Egypt has martial arts it can be said for every place in the wourld fighting is one thing humans are good at. Egypt had contact with Rome as well as other peoples and fought with more than a few of them.

One thing you must understand is that area is just a small part of Africa here is a list I got from Wikipedia.
* Capoeira
* Egyptian stick fencing
* Evala wrestling
* Hikuta
* Nguni stick fighting
* Nuba fighting
* Sebekkha
* Testa

The Masaix are well known lion hunters and warriors all tribes will have war related techniques. There is a tribe that dose some form of stick fighting it's part of a coming of age ceramony.

I practice Shorin-Ryu Karate, one thing many people do not understand about the style is that all of their weapons came from farm tools. The Nunchaku were used to remove grain from the stalks, as an example.

Just wanted to put that out their.

Yes I do Budokan Traditional Karate which is a mix of many martial arts, karate and aikedo, If I may add that before it was empty hand it meant Tang or Chinese hand, and when the Chinese characters were translated the Japanese changed it to mean empty hand. smile Luving Karate!!!!!!
no offence but how is it called traditional karate if its a mix of styles?

The word tradition has nothing to do with if it's mixed or not tradition is.

1. the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, esp. by word of mouth or by practice: a story that has come down to us by popular tradition.
2. something that is handed down: the traditions of the Eskimos.
3. a long-established or inherited way of thinking or acting: The rebellious students wanted to break with tradition.
4. a continuing pattern of culture beliefs or practices.

Most styles are a mix Aikido has Jujutsu, Judo and so on My Wing Chun is said to be a mix of Snake, Crane and White Eyebrow pluss a few more styles. Before there was a new style there was already the idea behind it's techniques all styles use techniques like punching, kicking and grappling.

I wouldent say that it is more brutal but it is a striking art like Boxing, Muay Thai and other such arts training methods can be farly brutal with some styles like real Muay Thai. A striking art is messy you damage organs break bones that sort of thing. Jujutsu, Aikido, Chin Na these are controling arts they can be brutal but not always they take a softer approach.

It can depend upon the person you are fighting. I could put you in an arm lock, if the person decided to struggle and break their arm...gruesome? Aikedo isn't it was the person who moved. In karate I am taught a lot of things about consequences.

I could be attacked in the street. I knock the person out and call the police. Fine. I break both their legs and cripple them for life...not fair...I will be the one in the wrong in the eyes of the law and I will be the one who gets done aswell.

Well thats not exactly acurit Kung Fu is not a style it's just a word people use like saying Chinese martial arts Kung Fu is a simpler way of saying this. There are many forms of martial arts in China some are soft and some are hard some are a mix. Tai Chi is a softer internal style it's practised slow this helps build Chi like in Chi Gung the style in combat is fast doing it slow helps you to get movments down corectly befor ever realy using them. Chinese Chuan Fa is an art that most people connect with Kempo Karate it is not a soft style and can be brutal. My style Wing Chun use both soft and hard movements we deflect attacks we often use an attackers motion to take there balance this is soft attacking we strike with elbows the knee the palms every part of our body is a weapon we also do Iraon Palm where you hit bags of beans and steel shot this is a hard training style unlike internal Iron Palm. San Shao and San Soo are hard styles.

Any way Chinese martial arts are mostly smoot flowing no broken movments you flow from one techniqe to the next pushing your enemy tell they can't go on. Some style use brute strength and power some use soft movments most are very fast.
