I love gouramies and bettas most, curious little fish with attidude. Though Rams and Angelfish are also real beauties. And Sharks and Pleco's. Especially Pleco's, they are the toughest fish I know that won't bully other fish or get bullied.

I wish I had a tank large enough for a royal knifefish, they're HUGE! but even a 55g is too smal for any knife fish -tear- You should try keeping yellow labs, they're mouth brooders and if you can get them to breed its amazing to watch all the babies come out lol

I've only got a 30. I'm more interested in keeping the smaller new world cichlids like acaras and rams. I just don't find the shapes of the Malawi and Tanganyika cichlids appealing gonk

My friend has a baby Clown Knife in his 25. I figure he has maybe a few months before he has to trade it in.

There are over 2000 fish species in lake malawi alone lol and many of them look verry different from eachother or have different charactaristics that make them verry unique

Although the girls have a betta (one died mysteriously), and Tohma, you do have those pretty barbs, I personally like Goldfish.. not the bugeyed ones, but pretty fancy tail ones of all different colors.

Tohma had a pair of goldfish that lived 5-7 yrs and needed a 10 gal aquaium to swim in because they got so big.

We all cried when Kimberly died.. she was the oldest and was about 5 inches long.. .Couldn't give her a burial at sea =so to speak=, she had to have a land burial.

Only 10 gallons for two goldfish who were that old? I couldn't even keep three 1 year old goldfish in 29 gallons--I had to move them to a 55 gallon.

Imagine how long Tohma's fish could have lived if they actually had room to function properly! That would have been nice to see. (:

Always keep in mind that you need 20 gallons for the first goldfish and 10 gallons for ever additional goldfish. Not only does it give them enough room to live happily, but it keeps them from suffocating in their own filth. They produce a whole lot of waste, sometimes it gets hard for the nitrogen cycle to be able to keep up with the amount goldfish are capable of putting out.

So the more water, the less the fishkeeper has to worry about changing the water and keeping the amonia level down (although you should still change a small percentage of the water every week to get rid of some things that cannot be removed by the nitrogen cycle!). ^_^

Oho~ Well I've certainly had my share of bad goldfish experiences too. Mostly at the fault of my parents, who decided they should buy my sister and I one goldfish each when I was 6 and my sister was 4. At least they had their own little bowl and didn't have to share one. I have no idea how long those lived. Probably not very long at all. sweatdrop

I think just about everybody has had a traumatic fishkeeping experience. xD;;
