Hmm. I'm liking Tokyopop for publishing material from a wider range of countries. I love manga, but I don't believe that Japan makes the only good comics in the world. But I seem to have more stuff from Viz, so I don't know. I don't nitpick over publishing companies. o_O

Geez settle down there.
Look I'll break it down for you, Manga directly translates to "whimsical pictures" Which IS comics.
It doesn't matter where they came from, comic books are comic books it's just companies like Tpop tend to overuse the word "manga" to sell stuff, when in fact there really is no difference. So yeah it's true that Tpop is using the word to make more money, but I highly doubt kids think Spongebob when the word "manga" comes across their little minds.

So in short, manga is just another word for comic books, and it has nothing to do with where it comes from.

Hm...I don't really have a preference between Viz and Tokyopop, but my favorite manga company of all time is Tong Li [Taiwanese]

The only decent one i've seen viz publish in the past three months are:

Baby and me
Hayase combat butler(spelled wrong)

And coming soon the only ones are:

The gentlemen's alliance
Millenium snow.

This is my opinion entirely though.

Well, release wise, Viz is much better. They generally get a new volume out every two or three months, where as Tokyopop can take as long as six months or more.

Quality wise though, Viz and Tokyopop are about equal, though DelRay kicks both their butts.

As for personal opinion, I prefer Viz. They've got a pretty wide variety and I own around ten different series by them and enjoy quite a few more. Plus, they're branching into shojo. I've bought Count Cain, Kare First Love, Alice 19th, Ceres, and Vampire Knight from them. Plus, a ton of shonen books.

I've also noticed that Viz's art is more to my tastes. They tend to pick series with less bunny art. (And by bunny I mean really big eyes and sickingly sweet. ^.-)

That being said, both their sites suck now. I used to like Tokyopop's and could navigate Viz's fairly well, but now- Bleh!

Xellina-chan
They both are pretty good. I have to say that they both have things I don't like. Tokyopop has a nasty habit of taking on too many titles and taking 6-9 months to release the next book. Nevermind the fact that the editors suck. I can't tell you the number of times the wrong text was in the wrong bubble (they switched them). It gets very confusing and distracts from the flow. But there is the sound effects. I can read them w/o translations and prefer that they were left as is instead of being translated in an awful font like Viz likes to do...

I agree that tokyopop has a lot of titles that just havn't got finished like Honey mustard invu just to name afew. I like Viz's selection lately too.

Hmm, I'm not sure, I have much more Tokyopop mangas in my collection, MUCH more, but I also have Del Rey mangas (which have been constantly coming out with shoujo after shoujo).

Viz is really only a fraction of my collection.

I don't know 3nodding

I like VIZ way better. I've witnessed some spelling mistakes in some of Tokyopop's manga. Also, when Kamichama Karin was first released, they left in some color pages of the story, but in the later releases they chopped it off. They didn't even put it in black&white. And I don't really like how they do their cover designs either. So Tokyopop is probably my very least favorite, but I like Del Rey the best out of all the publishing companies.
