How bout known each other for most of our lives... but not very well. Romance would add to the story, but lets have a little plot development b4 we get into that and have it come gradually. sound good?

It was just three days ago that Arabella's father, the king, had died. She was still in mourning. Wearing all black, she sat on her bed, weeping. Arabella and her father had been very close. They were just like any other father and daughter. She might never get over the loss.

Goodwin was with some of the other royally selected squires. They all wore black chain mail in mourning for the king. Goodwin sat off by himself while the other squires spoke to each other. It couldn't have been natural... he was so healthy and lively. Goodwin thought. He had known the king farely well for being born into such a low class family... if it wasn't for his natural skills with a sword he wouldn't be much of anything at this day.

Arabella sat weeping. Her mother had been dead for quite some time now, ever since she was three, she was all alone in this world now. A servant knocked on her door, brought in a tray of food and silently left. Arabella didn't even glance at it, though. She had not touched a thing since she found out about the death of her father. She had stayed in her bed nearly the whole time, except for the funeral. Arabella had attended the furneral, but she had not really been there at all.

Goodwin was soon bored by the trivial discussions around him. I wonder how Arabella is doing. he thought as he stood up and made his way toward her room. He didn't know the princess very well, but they had always gotten along when they were around each other. Goodwin was often invited to dinners with her and the king, as well as with his knight to whom he was a squire. That's knight name was Lucian. Lucian was the greatest knight in all of the kingdom, and was well liked by the king, which is why Goodwin was around the royal family as much as he was.

Arabella heard the clanking of boots coming down the hall she figured it was a guard coming to check up on her again. She quickly attempted to dry her tears, to no avail. The tears still came. She simply sat there, not even knowing if the person was coming for her or not, they might have been just passing by.

Goodwin soon found himself infront of Arabella's door. He went to open the door and stopped himself. Forgetting your manners? Knock first, idiot. he thought to himself. He then knocked on the door gently, yet loud enough to be herd by anyone inside her room.

Arabella looked around, noticing no one was with her in the room. She was surprised at the knock and stepped off her bed to go answer her door. She opened it, seeing Goodwin standing there. What could he want?

Goodwin bowed awkwardly. "Hello, Princess Arabelle." he said respectfully. "May I come in?" he asked.

Arabella nodded with the grace and dignity expected of a young woman of her status and stepped back lightly to let him in. "You may come in." She gestured to a nearby chair for him to sit in, and sits in the plush chair next to it. She rearranges her gown with a false dignity, it was obvious that she had been crying her eyes out just moments before.

Goodwin followed her gesture and sat down beside Arabelle in the chair. He looked at her with eyes full of pitty. She's been crying... I can't blame her, we've all cried from this pain... and hers must be so much worse. "I... I just came to make sure that you were doing ok. You know... after your father's..." he didn't know the right words to say. He now stared down at his feet awkwardly. He often felt embarassed or out of place with Arabelle. Even though he was often exposed to royalty his mannerisms where far from suitible.

Arabella broke down. All of her dignity forgotten, she simply cried and cried. "No, I'm not doing okay. I'm doing terrible. I don't even feel safe in my own home anymore, and I miss my father so badly. I have no one left in this world!" Oh, dear, he must think I'm some sort of two year old crying like this. How am I ever to show my face around him again?

Goodwin rose out of his chair and nelt down close to Arabelle. "There, there..." he said awkwardly as he attempted to console her by patting her back. "This is incredibly hard on the whole kingdom... I can only imagine the pain you must be feeling." he said truthfully. "But as far as being safe, Lucian has increased the security of the castle tenfold... and of course you still have people in this world... you've got the whole kingdom... and i'm here checking on you right?" he said with a forced smile. Truthfully Goodwin could cry at this moment too, but he was trying to make Arabelle feel better, not increase the sorrow felt inside her room.
