My mom knows that trying to take my games means that I move out and go live with a friend.
I'm only 16 but I have things I could tell people that would allow me to leave home.
If your mom is that insistant, try talking to her.
Make her understand that you are not the only girl who plays video games, hell, if I didn't play video games I would've never started dating my boyfriend. (who is awsome by the way)
Girls who play video games should be respected, because we're not saying, "OMG you play VIDEO GAMES!? That is lik so gay, games are for guys, are you a lesbian or something!?"
Saying girls shouldn't play games is extremely sexist, as your mom if she likes voting. Because you think only guys should be able to vote. Or have well-paying jobs. =]

Had your grades been dropping, than yes, I would have agreed with your mom's decision, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. Just taking away someone's hobby, JUST because the person is a certain age or sex is retarded.

Ever been to an arcade tournament? The ones that I've been to, over half of the people there are over 18+. Ever been to a college dorm? There's always a couple of people in there playing a FPS or MMORPG.

I recommend that you cut and paste some of the the arguements given in this thread, print it out on paper, and gave it to your mom to read.

And you can tell your mom that I (p**c Le, 26/M/CA) believes that she is very ignorant and closed minded. Believing that video games is just for kids would be like saying that basketball is just for kids or football is just for kids. Try to tell that too the millions and millions of adult sport fans on this planet.

Good luck to you. My own mom is going to take my games AND computer away if I don't get a job, but then again, I'm 18 and don't have a job, so that's semi-understandable.

Funny story, the first time my parents grounded me from one of my video games was also the first time I disobeyed my parents and played it behind their backs. I was about 11, it was Pokemon Red on Gameboy, and I was still very fresh into my new game addiction with it. I forget why they took it away, but they also made me go to my room, which was across the hall from their room, and they were all outside. I guess my parents assumed I would listen to them because they didn't bother to hide the Gameboy. I found it sitting on my mom's dresser, and I grabbed that b***h and played my heart out in my room until I heard them come back indoors. twisted
