That was a thought that had never crossed his mind. Athrun's frown deepened for a moment and he activated the Eye on his blindfold to look at the white and purple thorned goddess before him. One ear flicked back gently to swish the fluffly top mane that he had out of his blindfolded eyes.
"I actually never thought about it before. To be bluntly honest I've only just woken up a few days ago from the slumber I was forced under. I doubt that they can be though." Athrun told her in his resonating voice. The sadness steeped it for only a few seconds but in the end of the statement he turned and looked at his heiroglyphics with curiosity.
Lifting one of his wings clear of his back and sides he turned and started to lick at his markings to see if they'd be washed away by his rough tongue. For a few moments he licked and finally pulled back and raked his tongue over his top teeth and spat the pure white fur to the ground. The spot where the heiroglyphic had been was gone, but in a few moments a shimmering mark appeared again.
"Crap." ninja

She watched him intently as he tried to wash away the markings with his own tongue, feeling a spark of hope when, just for a moment, he seemed to have succeeded...only to have the mark reappear.
"May I try?" she ventured after a moment. Maybe she wouldn't be any more successful, but maybe she would...she was Justice, after all.

He turned towards say and raised an eyebrow slowly. She thought she could? Well, she had said she was the goddess of justice. So maybe there was some kind of hope that it could be done.
"Alright. I don't know what you could do, but I'm willing to give it a try if you want to." Athrun said in a shaky voice. Lifting his wing over his right side he put it as high up in the air as his large wing could go so that she wouldn't be impeaded if she tried. The glimmering golden ankh on his hip caught the sunlight and showered the air with gold for a moment before settling back down and simply leaving a brightened ankh shaped mark on the ground. ninja

"Perhaps it won't do any good, but then it can't do any harm, either," she assured, ducking underneath his wing and bending her head to his leg. After a brief moment of studying the symbols more closely, which she would have admired if not for their purpose, she rasped her tongue slowly out to lick gently on the marks that bound the God of Loneliness.

Athrun shivered as Sei licked at his leg. Not only because it tickled, but because whenever he touched something it was HIM doing all the touching. He'd never been touched by another creature of their own doing in his life. In fact it seemed rather strange she would want to try at all.
And it tickled.
The god curled his toes into the ground for a moment before lifting his leg out of reflex from how badly her tongue tickled and a small giggle worked it's way from deep in his chest. With a grunt he staunched the noise as much as possible and blushed about it before swivling his head to peer at Sei. He didn't think her work would actually work at all. Nothing in his life ever did. ninja

She giggled a little when she heard him, pausing to murmur a muffled "Sorry" against his leg before giving the spot one more lick. With a frown of concentration, she drew back to see if it had worked...it was a tenuous hope, she knew, but she couldn't help holding to it.

Athrun drew his leg up a little and twisted his head so he could look at it as the goddess before him pulled away from it. The clear white spot made his heart leap for a long moment before it shattered again. Shimmering heiroglyphics spread slowly over his leg and the god fell to the ground with a thump of defeat.
If the goddess of Justice couldn't even help him then Athrun knew he was as good as doomed to be this way for the remainder of his long existance. But all the same the god lay sprawled across the ground with his abnormally large white wings spread on either side of him and legs out in front of him lazily. A sigh floated up from his muzzle for a minute and he glanced up at Sei again.
"Thank you." Was all that he said and said quietly to boot. She probably didn't have to know how sad he was to feel it, seeing as he couldn't control his powers the way he should have been able to. But all the same, it annoyed him. ninja

The moment of waiting was a tense one for Sei, who culdn't help but dare to hope...but no, it wasn't to be. As the hieroglyphics reappared, her heart and expression fell. She hadn't been able to help; hadn't been able to make it better.
Her ears drooped, her tail fell, and even her wings rested loose at her sides, and sighed out as a heavy sadness settled on her shoulders like an unwelcome weight, "Forgive me, Athrun, for failing."

"It's not your fault." The old god said softly. He stood for a moment and used his head to push one of her wings back up, trying to make her look like the powerful goddess he'd first laid eyes on. The look on her face and the way she was now was his fault and Athrun felt horrible for forcing such a look onto something so beautiful.
"It's my own fault, even if I can't remember why. I don't know that I did anything, but at the same time I can't say I didn't. Maybe this curse can be a blessing from the memory? I don't know, but don't beat yourself up for something that befell me and not you. There's nothing you could have done." He said gently to the goddess before him, using one of his large white wings to push her black and white ones back to the sky again. ninja

It took a moment for the touch, the push of his head, to register; in all her life, Seitaru'kai had never needed nor known comfort at the hands of another. And now that she was given it, it proved itself to be a puzzling, foreign thing that fluttered gently and persistently against the knot of sadness in her stomach.
Slowly, her ears came forward again, and her gaze rose to the god before her. Loneliness. Loneliness, offering her reassurance, a balm for the sting of failure across her shoulders. She was full of answers, of retorts: the 'buts,' the 'maybe I could haves,' the 'I should haves.' Here, now, her great responsibility was weakness, not strength.
"I do not like to see hurt," she answered finally, glancing thoughtfully back at her wings as she lifted them slightly at his urging. "Though I have given it back to those who deserved it, it is not the same as seeing it with no seeming reason. To see it in you."

Athrun pulled his eyebrows together so much that they both dissapeared under his blindfold simultaneously. He knew hurt, he knew pain, he knew what it was like to want to stop it but to be unable to even reach the one being that you wanted to save in time.
Cleo.
That poor human that he'd left for dead when his pride was slaughtered and he was cursed to sleep. Where was she? He knew that humans didn't live as long as gods, even lion ones. So she had to have died and moved on. All alone. Once again Athrun had failed to save the person he cared for.
"It's not your fault though. For all you know this could have happened long before your own time, so for as much as it does hurt it's okay. You tried and that means more to me than all the things others have done, all the "sorry"'s and the "I wish I could help but..."'s." Athrun said to her softly and he flicked her wing gently with his own, batting it a little higher.
"Thank you Sei." He said, he inclined his head to her slowly and turned it into a bow of sorts, letting his wings spread out to either side of him respectfully, a soft smile spreading over his muzzle for the one goddess that had ever shown him kindness. "You're kinder and stronger than you know." ninja

"But we go on. We reincarnate, don't we?" Sei remembered her encounter with Griffith, Balance, and with it came a rush of guilty fear. But what if I had a hand in it? I've cursed a mortal to a similar fate...why not a god, once upon a time? She had no way of knowing if it was true, but...that it could be shook her.
Still, she lifted her wing a little at his urging, and found a little smile to return his. Here she was, the distraught one, while Athrun was the one carrying tragedy.
"I must be strong. It's half of what I am." The goddess nudged the underside of his chin with her wing. "You're strong as well, Athrun. You have heart."

"Sometimes it doesn't pay to be strong, but other times it does. During times like these it forces me to remember those words that I heard so long ago from the mouth of one that I cared for. She told me that for as strong as I was, she would always be there to catch me when I fell." Athrun told her. He of course wasn't going to tell her that the person who said it was now long gone.
In fact he'd never been saved when he fell, rather his wings had been tainted with so much blood that he'd never be saved. But he didn't care. Sei didn't need to know all of that. Just that she herself had to be strong, yet not strong at the same time.
"There are all differen't kinds of strength, but if you ever need the kind that I have then I'd gladly lend it to you for as long as you need it." Athrun said at last. ninja

"I will remember," she voiced. "Thank you, Athrun. You may be the first to realize that I...am not always so strong. So hard."
"And the same goes for you. Call me, and I will come, wherever you are. Whatever use my righteous strength is, it is yours, should ever you have need of it." Sei lowered her head, casting her wings half-spread in a bow.

"You don't have to be so though. You should never let yourself be too strong, it tears you away from the emotions that you have. And losing those is like losing a life. You can't do that." Leaning in the god licked her cheek for a moment before turning and staring up at the sky for a long time.
To have a friend that was a goddess. Somehow it felt right, like he'd been missing those of his own being. Looking back at the purple and white goddess before him he let a smile work it's way over his muzzle slowly.
"Thank you. That means quite a bit more than you'll ever know." ninja
