Mitsh I hafta say, I've seen both the Japanese and American versions of The Ring, and I found the American far more scary, as well as more interesting. However, the Japanese version /did/ have Towel Man and "Frolic in brine, goblins be thine", which just rule. I'd definitely re-watch the American rather than the Japanese version of the Ring, though. I can agree that sometimes, though the Japanese version may be of higher story quality, the American Re-makes are rather much more fun to watch. I found the Japanese version of the Ring to be a tad bit drawn out. >_< The American remake kept it moving better, in my opinion.

I don't live in america, but we also have those movies here. I've seen the ring in Japanese and American version. I must say I liked the Japanese version better. The American lacks some of the high building of thrills that the Japanese one does have. I always watch the Japanese movies first though, cause I prefer original language on movies.

Yeeeah, but, compare that one scene where Katy in the American version is found in the closet, and the one where That One Girl in the Japanese version is found in the closet. The american version was so much awesomer because they didn't do the amateur OH WOW LET'S MAKE A NEGATIVE SHOT thing the Japanese SFX crew did. Ringu just didn't seem at all scary to me D=

first of all I have alot of experience in the difference betwixt Jhorror and am horror we like to show off how much blood we can drain and the Japanese well only in samurai films see the ring anthology is supposed to be about the entiere story ringu ringu2 ringu0 and finaly rasen wich is what makes the difference see it was all about an urban legend and it talks about every thing umm a better one was pemonition which is about a news paper wich told you when people where going to die and if you stoped it from happening then you got the effects of the death like if some one was ging to be blown up and you stoped it you got severly burned in there place abetter one is like infection where a small hospital is on the brink of being closed down and the doctors there begin to kill them selves one at a time also a tale of two sisters is also good when the japenese make a slasher film it involves alot of story that has to be infered or assumed in such cases as Ichi the killer a story about a man who takes revenge on bullies be cause bullies ended up rapeing his girlfriend or just someone he loved I cant remember but any way it has alot of things in it there is another movie which involves being able to see ghosts and not being able to do any thing about it which is the eye and the eye 2 which are very good movies but things like Audition fell very short of what I had hoped would be the ending but in a tale of two sisters I notice how insanity sor ta runs through all of the J horror movies examples in ring0 it explains everything about sadako and her power wich could be used for good or evil and in Auditon the killer is an in sane woman a tale of two sisters the oldest sister goes insane after her sister dies stuck under a closet with her mother in it creepy no? or in Ichi the killer an insaner martial artist or better still H also known as hypnosis wich if you watch it you see how th e killers are all interconnected to the true killer who happens to be in jail all of these story's hold a more similer line in that sence that every one in their own mind hold some thing dark and chaotic and that is why J horror is so frightening most of their storys are possible but like some one attackiong you in your dreams please not possible a gint killer zombie who wants revenge cause his moter was killed by a bunch of teens who killed him yeah right they wouldnt make more than two or halloween a mad man who's only desire is to kill his family because he saw his sister and her boy friend ******** thats some stupid stuff american horror that I do like and there is only a few that wold be aliens and the predator movis because the do have some cool efects in that and trying to under stand how the predator's mind works is extremly intrigueing ther I m done now please dont ask about how I dont use periods

Oh! Don't forget about the Grudge! Ah, that movie scared me to no end. <3 Great flick. That one involves vengful spirits taking over a house if they died in fear/terror, and take it out on the people who live in the house they were killed in, also stalking and tormenting anyone who enters it. <3
Ah yes....so wonderful~ heart

well the grudge or ju-on was about a vengeful spirit like alot of Japeness horror but the people who became the ghosts did not die in fear or teror they were pissed like sadako and the mother, boy and man in the grudge because he comes back too he killed himself and he came back if you get a chance watch ju-on it is the original version of the grudge it goes in to more detail of the family who died in the movie first and second also cell phone that is a J horror film that deals with a vengeful spirit as well and the eye2 the spirit in that movie although not completly vengeful but still she is not a happy woman there is anothe movie about a young high school girl who falls in love with another girl and kills herself she then comes back and haunts the school

American horror hasn't been horror since the early 70's. With the onset of Friday the 13th and Jason movies horror well and truely died. Alfred Hitchcock was a truely horrific director. The exorcist was a good horror movie. But in the day of ADD gore and cheap scares pervade all.

Japanese Horror seems to be based around an everyday sort of process that's somehow haunted...

Ladies, Gentlemen...Japanese horror isn't all yurei and atmosphere. When it comes to shock and gore, they've done more than dabble. Consider The "Guinea Pig" (Za Giini Pigu) series, the second of which (Flower of Flesh and Blood) contains such cleverly executed gore that it has been mistaken for an actual snuff film.
The only one I've actually seen is The Guinea Pig 4: Mermaid in a Manhole. I assure you, this film is sick, sick, sick.
Then we have the works of one Shinya Tsukamoto, such as Tetsuo: The Iron Man, and Tokyo Fist. Tokyo Fist is interesting in that while the subject matter is completely mundane, the film has the vibe of a horror movie on account of the disturbing visual style. But I'm straying. sweatdrop
But...err...yeah. I like both The Ring and Ringu. They both have strong points and weak points, like any other pair of movies.

The exorcist was a good horror movie. But in the day of ADD gore and cheap scares pervade all. I'm of the opinion that there should be a distinction between the new movements in horror and the old, actually-scary ones. Slasher flicks, gore and bloody thrills are the new horror; scary movies, one that actually frighten you should be relabeled 'terror'. Or not. 8D Thorn apple Ladies, Gentlemen...Japanese horror isn't all yurei and atmosphere. When it comes to shock and gore, they've done more than dabble. I like 'The Grudge' remakes (haven't seen the originals). Very good, creepy, and supernatural to boot.

I prefer the Japanese versions of The Ring and The Grudge, but that's just my taste. J-Horror also seems to be better at really chilling me and getting under my skin, which doesn't happen with American ones.

yul, i hated the saw movies. too much gore and not enough plot. just boring for me. the rng was good, the second one the woman was very annoying. i doo prefer other horror movies from other countries, cause most of the american ones end up like saw and just try too hard to make alot of money. i prefer a plot that could happen and that makles some sense. kind of like american haunting, ok, not the best example, but its better than saw

Once, me and my sis watched the Japanese version of Dark Water. It wasn't really scary, but it still was a really good movie. I loved the mother and the daughter.
I haven't seen the American version, mostly because I'm sure it wouldn't be good.
