Narniakat I can't begin to say how disappointed I was that there was NO police stuff, NO zombie stuff and NO plot!!!! I can't believe it. I HATE Auggie!!! I liked Haven and can't believe she sent him away. He was just as aggressive as Micah was when he felt Anita was his. Micah just manipulated her instead of Haven's just being physically aggressive. I was very disappointed in Requiem. But I was surprised that I actually ended up liking London. I am soooooooo glad that she is not pregnant!!! I think I would have given up on the series if she had been pregnant. I did like the bringing back Obsidian Butterfly's power though to use against Merlin, but Anita is going to be in deep trouble when Mommie Dearest really comes after her. Oh yea, Mommie Dearest is going to make Belle look like a secoond rate master, oh and yea I felt the same way about London, I like him too now, I hope we get to see more of him.

I like London heart He was really funny after he helped Anita with the ardeur, being all drunk. I like him, especially sense he totally is addicted to the ardeur. Which makes me think of Requiem and I feel sad for him sad cause Requiem is cool. And cute, but I don't think he exactly fits Anita...
Clay! heart (just had to do that)
I didn't like Haven, though his hair was funny. It made me wonder if all of his hair was dyed to match...
I liked Noel and his bookish manor, and telling them to stop with the power play in the car so he could study. Maybe next book we will meet Justine so we know of Anita's lioness reacts with him...but I think Noel should just become a little more dominate. He would be cool. biggrin
Auggie!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE AUGGIE!!! Is that bad?????????? The Anita/Augie/Jean-Claude action was the BEST!!! whee whee whee It made my head turn on that, finally male/male action and Anita didn't freak! Okay, so, the effects of seeing m/m stuff happened afterwards, but I am okay wtih that. Maybe we will now see some Anita/Asher/Jean-Claude or Anita/Jean-Claude/Asher stuff...
And Asher! *drool* My sister and I love the fact he has an animal to call now, and that its hyena is cool took. Kinda ironic I think, because of NIC and Asher having to top Narcissus. (what do people think of that?) And having sex with Anita all to himself. heart heart heart
There is just one thing that urkes me, I can't remember when Jean-Claude bit Anita on the thigh...it's something she mentions when Asher is doing her, naming off all the bite marks that she had on her at the time. I can't remember when it happened though! Maybe I just forgot (I have a bad memory)...can someone help me with that?
And I liked the ballet. The ballet was the best! Except for the rolling of the minds and that whole thing with Adonis and Merlin. I don't particularly like those two, but Merlin was interesting to talk to. And mentioning Obsidian Butterfly (she is so cool in my opinion!).
As for Mommie Dearest, she scares me. Really scares me. Such a creepy woman/thing. I love the whole thing with her cause she wants Anita. And well...my mind twists that into a sorta f/f thing...but that is probably just me (but she totally tells Anita that Anita is "mine" and that is so totally possessive! whee ).
Oh, and because I am curious, what do people think of Samuel and his family and their request for Anita? I think Anita should have sex with his son cause, well, I think Sampson is rather cute. Thea...though...again, scares me. Such a strange woman.

Oh yay, I finally found this thread! I finished the book in a day... Much better than the last two, in my opinion. I like London. He's going to be interesting to watch later on. The Asher stuff was kinda odd, but I'm glad he finally has an animal to call. Hyenas! Heh, I wonder how Narcissus will take that... rofl Adonis and Merlin were just irritating. So were Auggie and Haven. Grr. I loved the description of her various beasts. And I really really hope that she finds a decent lion. Maybe Justin will be dominant enough for her? Ryu Fire As for Mommie Dearest, she scares me. Really scares me. Such a creepy woman/thing. I love the whole thing with her cause she wants Anita. And well...my mind twists that into a sorta f/f thing...but that is probably just me (but she totally tells Anita that Anita is "mine" and that is so totally possessive! icon_whee.gif ). Oh, and because I am curious, what do people think of Samuel and his family and their request for Anita? I think Anita should have sex with his son cause, well, I think Sampson is rather cute. Thea...though...again, scares me. Such a strange woman. Lol! Mommy Dearest/Anita would be like... the end of the world! I think within the next book or two we'll meet Mommy for real... and then we'll see what happens... O.O I think she should find out exactly what happened to Jason, THEN *cough* 'bring Sampson into his powers' *cough* blaugh Because he is cute, and far more polite than his mother. And his dad isn't bad either. Merpeople, how cool is that! Now I wish St. Louis were a coastal city... dramallama

I was nearer to the beggining of the book. I liked that part alot, she final let go of some of her hang ups.

I must say, i cant help but feeling that Laurell. K Hamilton ended the book in the way she did (with Anita waking up in the hospital) because she didn't know what to do with the ballet after party (or maybe she was just getting tired. xp ).
I did enjoy this book imensely however, I would have liked it if there were some zombie raising/vampire hunting action and maybe some police work in there.
I couldnt help but thinking (at the very beginging) that if she was pregnant she would have had a misscarriage anyway because of the violent lifestyle she lives. (particularily the child would not have survived during all her escapes in my personal fave -Obsidian Butterfly-)

I've just realized how long I've been absent from this guild and how much I've missed discussing Anita Blake!
I, of course, read the entirety of Danse Macabre in a short space of time and have many opinions... but I think I'll read it once more before I draw concrete conclusions.
For the most part, I share the opinions that have already been posted: Asher and Anita I loved and it's very cool that his power is increasing; Nathaniel being more dominant has made me fall even more in love with him; I don't like Auggie... just, ew; the ballet was neat but I'm wondering if Anita is a match for Mommie Dearest.
Nobody mentioned Richard!! I have a love/hate relationship with the wolf king that has been extremely on the hate side until this book. He actually impressed me by showing Anita that he could control himself and be an adult. I hope he keeps this new attitude up!
And about the pregnancy... wow. It was a crazy idea to begin with and I was so worried about what would happen either way. To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that she isn't pregnant. I mean, yeah, it wouldn't have worked, but... it would have been new and interesting.
Anyway, I'll take that second read and come back to see if any more opinions have surfaced.

Your right about the Richard thing.....I personaly could never like him because he destroyed my trust but who knows what the future holds for him.....maby he will find his white picket fence....I just don't think he fits in with Anita's black one with the points on it. (Read the last three of four ligns of the book)

The pregnancy thing really made me mad. Nobody seemed to be thinking. Personally, I believe it's not that Anita won't shift, but that at this time she simply can't. It's happened before and she wants to to make the pain stop, but it doesn't happen. If she has a kid, who's to say that won't happen to it? A two year old with a wolf ripping it up inside, screaming, and nothing you can do about it. And what's the likelyhood of that kid NOT getting the ardeur? Personally, I don't want to take that chance. Even if the ardeur doesn't rise in the kid before pubrity that's an 11-13 year old starving for something it doesn't even understand. And even if the thing was completely normal (which there is no way it can be), how many enemies would love to kidnap The Executioner's daughter for some reason? Nobody seemed to consider that! Why?!
Other than that, I've concluded that the fourth strain of lycanthropy is vampiric, which is why they can't identify it. It makes sense. Testing for the baby stuff is the same as testing adult bloodwork without specifics. She had Vlad's syndrome. She accepts she's a vamp. It's vampirism!
Also, my own personal thoughts, I think Marmee Noir is more like Anita than we think. She was vamp, and she could shift, something I think Anita could do eventually. I also think Marmee Noir is a Necromancer with a horrible amount of power. If she created vamps, what better power to do so with than necromancy. Anita could rule the vampiric world! eek
Just a thought.
This book was better than the last two, I believe. It was oddly more soap opera-ish. o.O I still liked it tho. Three cheers for m/m action! WOO! And was it just me, or did anyone else get yummy thoughts every time she mentioned JC and Asher going at it like bunnies? ^.^
I'm also disapointed in the lack of police work. With all those vamps in town, you'd think SOMEthing woulda happened. I liked Noel alot. He should step it up and be more dom. yup yup. And I was so terribly interested about the merpeople and LKH just left it hanging for the next book! And what kinda kinky stuff left that on Jason? These are important questions people! I must know! The next book better not take too long to come out. x.x I'd die.

DarknessesPuppy So Aniti is in love with Auggie. That was odd... Not by choice, keep in mind. Even though he did his power so he could, it doesn't seem like she does. I know you can hate someone, but still, the love thing to be wearing off fast!

Okay, the abrupt ending kinda made me mad because I SOOO looking forward to Jean-Claude maybe being upset with Merlin using his powers the way he did (even though I doubt that Jean-Claude would clearly show that emotion. He rarely does show his true emotions which I wish he would! But what Anita said about Auggie and Jean-Claude, that they've been so used to hiding their emotions, it's probably harder to bring the true ones to surface and show on their face)
There were some points where I laughed my a** (and see my brother stare at me over the laptop. Hilarious.) I actually quoted in my quote book the bit when Anita thought that Asher and Jean-Claude were doing it behind her back like bunnies. ha ha, I had to laugh.
OOOOH, ASHER!! I must say, he's always been so emotional that I never really liked him, YES, I LOVE him! lol, I'm so happy that he's got an animal to call! When he was with Anita in it, the whole bit before them going into sex made me a laugh and smile a lot. Him pointing out her bite marks, him saying, "I like that" when Anita said she was Afraid of how much she wanted him. lol. I just liked his assertiveness. I kind of surprised me, but bleh.
Requiem has replaced Asher's spot in who's the most emotional among the vampires (I had to say among the vampires b/c I'm still pissed at Richard) I used to love Requiem! Incubus Dreams, I loved him!! He was such a gentleman. Anita's right, he's too high-maintenance and she does not need that with anyone else besides Asher and Richard.
Richard, I loved the fight scene. Every thing else, I just say "******** him." (not in the way that Anita does, I mean, just let him go!!!) He's an a*****e and is always looking for trouble.
Haven, I liked him, especially when Anita first called him, 'Cookie'. He was like, "What?..." but he liked it. I like him, but I don't want him to cause more trouble for Anita.
Meng Die....what a b***h!!!! I used to like her, but now I've really seen her and I'm like, "Dude...take a chill pill."
Auggie, a*****e, yes, with a capitol A.
Samuel, I liked him and his family (though his wife hit a nerve for me when she passed Anita to Tom (that's one of the twin's name's, right?)).
Marmee Noir, heh...I WANT TO STAY ASLEEP!!! >.<

Hmmm...well, to say that I've been dying to read this thread is a huge understatement. I started reading the series when danse macabre had just came out. So, I was very excited about reading all the crazy stuff leading up to it.
My, what book. xd
Let me start by saying that I, also, was very disappointed with the lack of police work. Zebrowski was sorely missed (I never thought I'd say that). It seems that I'm slightly angry because Anita didn't kill anything.
About the middle of the book, about the time whether or not Anita was going to feed from Requiem, I realized that the first half of the book spanned over a period of less than two days. I think that's what got to me. Yes, I know. A reader must have a small amount of gullibility, but I just couldn't help thinking about it.
Now, going back to the plot. Asher's coming into power was interesting. I'm wondering if all master vamps of Belle's line come into power like that? twisted It just seems interesting to research...
My thoughts on the ballet were rather...iffy. I didn't really think that it was all that impressive. Then again, I only read it from the point of view of a woman who tried to stop the dance leader and then got attacked by Marmee Noir. I thought it would have been more....I dunno, artsy, I guess. Oh well.
Side-note: Everytime somone mentioned Haven, I had to think about who he was because I kept thinking about him as "Cookie". I am now determined to find a picture of my sister's boyfriend because he has that color hair. then again, he had every other color hair imaginable.
Overall, a decent book. Grade: A- Enjoyability: A Laugh-Out-Loud Factor: A
