I geuss the best way to sum it up for me is this. I draw a general version to get the idea down and then put in the details. The only thing is I range from drawing all the specifics to using action lines, blocking, and a few other techniques. So, I really don't have a particular way. That and I doodle a LOT.

I can edit and do some stuff with things like photoshop, but I prefer pencil and paper.

Sometimes it helps to map out what I'm doing if I have a general idea of what I want to accomplish. But if I'm doing things randomly, I do it flat out, and make it up as I go. I usually pen it on the computer now too, since I learned how to do it recently. smile

My art kind of comes out of my hands depending on my mood.

Usually when I'm trying a figure I'll start out with basic shapes as guidelines and then fill in the details. Rarely do I just draw the picture as is. The majority of my pencil art is messy at best anyway.
If its a more in-depth image I'll sketch the picture out very loosely, then scan it in photoshop and import it to Open Canvas 1.1. Then I'll go over the image with 'ink' digitally using a wacom tablet, getting really detailed with it and fill in with colour. Open Canvas lets me do this really fun water colour style.

I'll save it as a jpg, import it back to photoshop and tweak the colours some more (my art tends to turn out really bland) and thats about it.

Its lengthy, with plenty of steps, but I'm overly complicated like that.

I use any trick in the book. It really depends on what I'm trying to do. I'm still experimenting with everything and each time I try something, I usually get results I'm happy with.

Graphic arts are kind of like martial arts in that respect. There are many styles, and they can all be utilized in a smooth way to get an end result. The strongest fighter I know was Bruce Lee, who chose to go with no style, utilizing different aspects of a bunch of arts to make himself into a great martial artist.

See?

It had been a habit of mine to draw my pictures as I went, but they had poor anatomical structure. I have recently started blocking my pictures and the anatomy of my subjects have improved immensely. I will be able to post my art soon, so I am psyched about that. ^^

guidelines help me a lot in drawing faces and all, but sometimes, I surprise myself when I get to draw something decent w/o any lines and stuff, it's just frustrating because I usually draw better on used paper, and when I'm pressured..stupid and random..mostly stupid. that's me alright.

I forgot to answer the questions sweatdrop

I draw traditionally but I'd like to try something using photoshop.

I'll draw on any piece of paper lying about - bills, tax receipts, you name it. I tend to see a blank piece of paper not as a flat 2 dimensional field, but as a 3 dimensional volume, or space, extending back into the page. All I do is trace the outlines of the objects that lie within.

I'll usually use shapes to help me figure out where everything will go, and then I will add in outlines, and details etc.
However, sometimes I just start drawing spontaneously with nothing set up berforehand.

I usually start out with different lines and geometric shapes to help me get my basic concept down, as well as to help figure out proportion and perspective. I usually do several study sketches during this stage.

After I've gotten that figured out I'll sketchily block-shade the peice.

Then I'll finish it up in ink, paint, pastel, graphite, or whatever.

If I plan on finishing it up digitally, I first just sketch out what the basic layout will be, then ink over the main lines and scan.

After that, I do all the fixing and coloring/lining in Photoshop/Illustrator and on occasion GIMP.

I usually start out with the whole circle-line skeletal frame thing to get the position right, but then I flesh it out and draw clothes. Eventually I'll ink it and erase all the extra lines. <3

I use both teqnicues. Sometimes I use helplines and sometimes I dont'. Mostly use traditional medias such as watercolours and airbrusch. I do make digital paintings to, in Photoshop.

I usually just draw flat out. I use some proportion lines on the face, but that's really just to line up the eyes and mouth.

I reeeeaaally want a tablet, though
