I blame YondyxOC fanfcs...
Maybe Sarutobi didn't tell Naruto because he would get all depressed and be all like:
"Wahhh! I finally found out who my daddy was and he's deeeeead!"

I mean, because the kyuubi was sealed inside of him Yondy died so...is my other guess.

He'd problably get all mushy like that time he thought Sasuke was dead (also the first time we get to see Kyuubi-chan). You know, he was all crying and he almost killed Haku...
Yeah.
Heh... but since the seal's getting weaker, he's problably go all 4-tails...
Anyway, the theory is really, reall, really looong and I don't feel like explaining it right now because I'm tired.

Is true that the seals are getting weaker. Which is the reason why Naruto doesn't want to depend on the kyuubi anymore. Also, I think Orochimaru and Jiraiya contributed in it.

I think Yondaime is Naruto's father. Or... maybe Naruto is Yondiame's reincarnation or something? I hope that Yondaime Is Naruto's father. It would be so cool! xD

Sine he most likely gets all his power from his dad and the kyuubi

There was a screen shot from when Sarutobi was remembering all the people in the village in (spoiler: highlight to see)his battle with Oro. It showed all the little ninjas growing up. It showed Naruto as an infant being held by somone, who's arms were only shown. I think that person may be his mother for the arms were to feminine to be his fathers.
I also think that naruto must of been anywhere from a week to a month when the kyuubi battle took place. I know some people think it took place like right when he was born or the day after he was born but it never states any of that in the manga or the anime.. it just says he was an infant.
All of that kinda leads me to believe that mabey the third or anyone else in the village hasnt told naruto that the fourth was his father because of what might of happen to his mother... I dont think it would be as drastic as what happened to Gaaras mom but its a possibility that his mom and dad did something he wouldnt understand until he is older... its just a theory.. sweatdrop

It never says that Naruto's parents aren't alive though. It just says that he was an orphan. I know a few people who were adopted and their birth parents are still alive. Why won't kishinoto-sensei just tell us... Hmmmm... Maybe if we call him Kishimoto-dono? Hmmmm... Oh! I have an idea! We should Sexy-no-jutsu him into submission and then get us to tell him! ~Muhahaha~

Yaay, they have a Yondy discussion here. I really like him a lot, almost as much as Kakashi.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the Yondaime is Naruto's father. First of all, like most of you pointed out, he wouldn't pick just any old child out of the blue to seal the demon in. I mean, sealing a demon inside someone (a newborn child, at that!) is a very big deal. I mean, Yondy did request that they honored Naruto as his death wish, but I believe that he very well knew the fate of the child.
However, you can also suspect that Naruto doesn't have anything to do with Yondy, except for that fact, and/or is a distant relative (possibly an uncle). The reason for that is... well, look at them! Yondy has almost everything in common with Naruto, except that Yondy's much smarter than Naruto, as Jiraiya pointed out. This intention might be to trick the fans into thinking that he's a relative or something. I don't know, it just seems that that's the sort of thing Kishimoto would pull...
As for the mother, looking at the possibility that Yondy is the father, she must have been a real bubble-head. xD 'Cuz, I mean, Naruto isn't one of the sharpest tools in the shed, so to speak. There is, also, the possibility that whoever the mother was, she was on Yondy's team. Now, that would mean that she's either one of these guys in [this] picture. I'm referring to one of the two on the far left. x3 I'm not sure which one is the girl, but there's supposed to be a girl on every Genin team, right? So that's a definite possibility, as well...
Ah well, whoever she is, I'm sure she was a great person, judging on who Naruto is right now and I'm also sure that whether Yondy really is naruto's father or not, everyone is just itching to find out.

I personally think that Yondaime is Naruto's father, but I'm open to other theories as well. I'm a bit skeptical because of the way Masashi Kishimoto tends to do things. He can twist things around in a way that you least expect. As for choosing Naruto, it would make sense that he chose him because he was his son. Why would he choose someone else's child for that? I'm sure if it was another child's parents, they'd be like "Heck NO!!" So it only makes sense that he would use his own child. And they DO look so much alike it's scary, yet there are a few other characters that look similar to each other. But not as similar as they do, in my opinion. As for the mother, I have NO clue. But I did find this cool little article on theOtaku about the subject. It doesn't really go into WHO the mother was exactly, but rather what could have happend to her. It has a lot of stuff we already know, but it's pretty interesting.

From the very begining I thought so. Its just too much of a coincidence. Naruto not having parents. The fourth dying the same day. His Mom having to die because of the Seal. And another thing. When no one knew that Naruto had Kyuubi in him. I mean come on, he was born that same night, and he has freaking whiskers. and the seal on his stomach. -.-'. Come on now. And Im not even the most observant person.
You know. Just my thoughts.

There could be many reasons for that. Maybe he's afraid of what he might discover, or maybe he doesn't want to add more worry to his list. He could be thinking, "If I finally discover who my parents are, what if they're dead? What if they didn't want me? What if they abandoned me?" It's quite possible that he is a bit angry, as well. Since he obviously doesn't see Yondaime as being his father, he might be thinking that his parents abandoned him because of the Kyuubi. Or maybe he just plain doesn't care. XD
