"THE NEWSPAPER! YES!" Feather immediately lept up from where she had been previously sitting, watching Alexander's latest acrobatics, no doubt, and sprinted over to the door. It was about time that stupid newspaper boy had gotten to her building!

Without hesitation she quickly unlocked several bolts which kept the door shut, gripped the doorknob, and yanked it open. She looked down, her enthusiastic expression beginning to melt into one of confusion. "A...flowerpot?" She asked to no one in particular, spotting the letter placed meticulously on top of the pot.

Bending down, she figured she might as well bring both items inside her residence for further examination. Of course, she didn't know how heavy the ceramic container was. After many attempts and many groans of frustration, she had finally managed to drag the pot into the living room.

Feather sat down on the couch overlooking where the pot now sat, reaching over and picking up the paper. Her eyes rapidly moved from left to right as she read the letter in a haste, and once satisfied with it's contents, gently placed it down on the coffeetable.

Oh God. This had the makings of being QUITE a challenge. It was hard enough keeping Alexander in the same room for five minutes, but...PLANTING him? For days? That's insanity! Pleading silently that Lena's prediction about the potting process taking a fairly short while was correct, she anxiously poured the nutrient-rich soil into the pot, and stirred it up to make it evenly dispursed.

Now came the hard part.

"Ahem...uh..Alexander?" She meekly cried out, watching as her leaf came zipping in happily. If he only knew.

"Come here, little guy. Mommy needs you to go inside of here. Okay? Please?"

Alexander simply remained in the air, reluctant to even move, let alone plant himself in that weird contraption. It was all dark and scary! What was she thinking?

"Please!! I promise you nothing will happen!" Feather continued to plead, digging a somewhat deep hole in the soil and gesturing for him to go inside. "You'll be out in a little while, and you'll be a real human! To a certain extent, anyways. You'll be able to play with all your friends, and everything! Remember Raven? You'll be able to actually talk to her! And Kashimi! You'll be able to communicate with him and REALLY show him some tricks! Come on! What do you have to lose?"

The leaf remained still a short while longer, carefully considering his choices. Well, it was a life cramped up as being a leaf, or one spent being not only able to feel the wind and fly around, but to also be able to SEE and touch the world which he inhabited, as well. Not to mention the others...

He quickly flew inside of the hole, figuring it was best, and that it was too late to change his mind.

Feather smiled, and filled the empty space that surrounded him with soil.

"Thank you." She said gratefully, happy she didn't have to force him inside. It wouldn't have had the same effect, anyways. She picked up the pot once more, faultering only slightly, and placed it on the window sill. The sun shined merrily both the pot and its contents, reflecting the girl's mood.

"And so it begins..."

"Alexander, cut it out! I'm trying to help you, jeeze!"

The table on which an over-sized flowerpot shook in what certainly seemed as a rebellious reply to the words previously spoken. The leaf contained inside of the pot quivered as it continued to be doused by the water that the girl overlooking it was pouring, who just so happened to be looking generally defiant and determined to get the job finished.

"It's just water, jeeze! You're acting like it's killing you, or something!" Feather grumbled in an annoyed tone, dumping the rest of the water contained in the can on top of the leaf. She then picked up the pot, used to its weight by now, and sat it on the floor. "You'd better not be this difficult when you DO grow up! If you ever do, that is! At this rate, you'll have managed to either squirm out of your pot, or completely break the thing altogether! It's not THAT bad, and it's not like you're in there forever!" She scolded, wagging her finger in the leaf's direction as she bent down and sat next to the ceramic object, watching as is gently ceased in it's shaking.

It was true, and though Alexander was reluctant to admit it, being potted wasn't THAT bad. Sure, he wanted freedom and everything, but he got food whenever he wanted, and he didn't have to worry about any unfortunate accidents including him and the wall!

With renewed content, he happily slurped up the water that had formed in puddles around him, his presently-fragile roots seeming to grow stronger as the day passed by.

"Good." Feather nodded as she watched him, also satisfied. "Now..." Leaving him on the soft, carpeted ground, she turned with a sudden inspiration towards one of the doors leading out of the living room. Taking a deep breath, she opened it, peering cautiously into the room which the large wooden panel had previously concealed.

A storage room...heh...that was it. The nice way to put it, anyways. Old exersizing equiptment, broken computers, magazines, nearly anything one could imagine stacked high to the room's ceiling. It was practically impossible to even see the cheesy and peeling wallpaper which had been lain over the walls.

All the crap's gotta go somewhere, right..?

"This is gonna take...awhile..." Feather groaned, leaning onto the doorframe for support as she surveyed the mess.

It was hard to believe she only had a few days, at most, to turn the biggest pile of s**t she'd ever had into a respectable child's bedroom.

Anything for Alexander...

Bird Draggon

Raven tugged on the bright ribbon, marveling at its red color. She was clutching (along with her teddy) a wrapped box so tightly it was a wonder it wasn't her reason for living. The child had refused to let go of it since Bird had snipped the ribbon she was fascinated with to trim it down to size.

Bird sighed, grinning, as they approached their destination. "Well... looks like the place," she confirmed, setting down Raven and watching her look around as well, box and teddy gripped tightly.

"... N'kay, Rave. This is Alexander's place. You wanna set it down now, or what?"

Surprisingly, Raven did as told and plopped the box on the doorstep, walking back to Bird with a very smug look on her face. The woman collected the small child, stole another glance at the place, and set off for home.

Inside the brightly colored box, there sits a note and an object. The note reads:

Hullo! We were snooping around my old toy chest and found this. Raven was insanely jealous when I suggested to give it to Alexander; she only agreed when I told her he had pot duty. Must be something dreadful. Anyway, enjoy!

Swallowing down a pang of fear once she more carefully considered the task she was about to uptake, Feather quickly scuttled away from the door for a moment, hurrying off to the kitchen and returning not too long after with an oversized bucket in hand containing countless bottles of cleaning solution, paper towel, and sponges as many colors at the rainbow.

"Alright, Alexander..." She spoke slowly, forming her words carefully as if they were her last. Her gaze shifted down to the brilliant orange flowerpot set on the ground next to her. "If I don't come back...well...DON'T SCREW UP THE APARTMENT!" The leaf only quivered in response -as much as his heavy pot could allow him, anyway-, recieving a nod from Feather as she bolted into the room without another sound. She shut the door behind her, taking a deep breath as she slowly surveyed the mountains of trash.

Clearly determined, and without giving them even a moment's worth of thought, began tossing ancient magazines, newspapers, and books into a trashbag that had been set behind her, waiting patiently. Once finished with that task, she moved onto the group of practically decaying furniture in the corner of the room, pitching everything in sight. This process continued for quite some time, and eventually the room was clear of all trash. The only thing that remained was the peeling wallpaper, which held a repeating flower pattern which had obviously faded over the years. Feather winced at the decorative paper which had to at the very LEAST 30 years old, and began peeling it off of the walls.

Hours later, she had finished with her task, and began applying a fresh coat of white paint to the now cleared walls. Once dried, she added a cream-colored coat of the liquid. Opening the glass door that led to the balcony she had only recently discovered, she allowed the day's sunlight to pour into the empty, but clean room. Smiling faintly, she strode back into the main hallway and into her own bedroom to gather not only unused furniture, but also some toys from her own childhood that she was sure Alexander would have fun with when he grew. Among them were a pair of two little plushie dragons, each orange and yellow in hue. Also, the girl grabbed a multi-colored bird plushie which had been resting on top of her bed, a gift from Raven and Bird that she had found earlier that morning. It was bound to be one of her leaf's favorite toys when he had an opportunity to play with it.

She stepped back inside Alex's room not long later, and began setting up the furniture. Feather had even gone to her neighbor's- a mother of three children, each mostly grown-apartment to borrow a cradle Alexander could sleep in until he came of age. The sun continued to dance on the wooden floor as she
set all three plushies in the small bed for a finishing touch, and set a picture of a beautiful summer landscape on the wall.

All that remained, of course, was Alexander himself. Feather quickly brought him in the room and set him near the open door, watching as he tried his best to squirm in a show of happiness.

"Good." Feather whispered, delighted, as well. She sat down on the floor, pulling her knees to her chest as she silently watched her leaf bask in the glory of the life-giving light.

Summary of roleplay started on page 204

"Whew...Alexander's first night by himself, and likely his last, for a while. I just want to see how he'll fare in his new room..."

Feather took a break from her scribbling momentarily, looking out in the direction of the leaf's room, which was only meer yards away, before she continued her writing once more.

"He's got a bunch of little stuffed toys to keep him company, along with a new one...new to us, at least. It's Raven's little teddy bear, I believe it's name is...Nana? Anyways, it was incredibly sweet of her to allow Alexander to take it home and keep it for the night, and I'm still wondering what he exactly did to deserve the prize. I always thought the little blue-haired Eden would never let such a posession out of her sight, let alone lend it out for an entire day!"

The girl smiled as she wrote, recalling fond memories of the past day.

"Boy, and I thought Alex was wired! As it turns out, Kajika's a little crazy, too! He was bouncing around the HQ and everything! Not to mention he's got a strong passion for vegetables...hey, at least it's not worms, right? I'm still feeling incredibly bad for Bird about that...

"Well, I guess it's time for bed, now. All that work from earlier's really left me exausted! But it was SO worth it, though. I'm glad Alexander has a little domain of his own, now. Goodnight, journal..."

She closed the book slowly, tucking it away in the drawer beneath her desktop.

"And goodnight to you, too, Alexander..."

Yawning, Feather stood up and stretched, creeping over to Alexander's room and just barely opening the door to check on him.

There lay the little flowerpot, safe inside it's little crib, with the teddy bear plushie, above all others, pressed close against it. Moonlight poured onto the floor, and Feather was forced to begin blinking off sleep.

"I imagine it's going to be hard tomorrow morning when you have to let that go..." She murmered quietly, still smiling delicately as she gently closed the door and trudged off to her own room, ready for bed.

Jadaria glanced one way, then the other, then skittered up to the doorstep. She held a brightly coloured box, trimmed in several ribbons of black and red. Kajika had helped wrap, so it was a little messy... but it got the point across. She set it on the porch, then skipped away, giggling.

Attached to the box...

I was looking through some of my old collectibles, and I came across a whole box of these! I don't want to give them all to Kajika, so I thought I'd spread the love! I picked these out from the bunch just for Alexander, and I hope he likes them.

"So I'm guessing you slept well, little guy?"

Feather smiled, and continued to drench the leaf with water from the watering-can she carried. The pot in which the small green object was contained was sitting on the table in the living room, while the girl sat on the nearby couch, looking over it. Raven's teddy bear sat beside Alexander, though not in the pot (for obvious reasons), along with Jadaria's little kitten plushies.

The leaf made no motion to reply to Feather's words, instead only happily slurped up the water which had began to collect in a small mote around him. Alexander couldn't even move if he tried; his roots were growing stronger with each passing day. On top of the fact his flowerpot was made especially heavy for him, his usual wiggling and squirming had been completely restricted. The now-black haired woman understood this perfectly, but out of habit, continued to try and communicate with her Eden.

Once the watering can had run completely dry, Feather quickly replaced it onto a nearby shelf, then simply sat back down and silently watched Alexander. Everything was quiet, except, of course, for the open door in Alex's bedroom. Lately it seemed it was constantly agape, seeing as the gentle sound and feel of a light breeze was the only thing that could lull the leaf to sleep at night.

Alexander was already beginning to feel at peace with the wind. No suprise there.

Feather leaned forward suddenly, craning her neck in the direction of Alexander's bedroom. She could've sworn she heard a sharp, piercing cry in the distance. It was something she had heard often, way back when she used to be a full-time messenger.

Horus would be home soon.

As Alexander is staying inside his room alone again, you suddenly hear some strange noises. Almost like the movement of wings or a strong wind blowing through the room. When you step closer you notice that indeed it's becoming rather stormy. The leaf is happily wiggling in the wind.

"ALEX!" Feather rushed into the bedroom, shielding her eyes from the beating winds. What was going on? She hadn't heard any storm was coming today!

The girl struggled forward, inching closer and closer to the flowerpot. "ALEXANDER!!" She repeated in a frantic cry, wrapping her arms around the ceramic container once she had closed the gap.

But Alexander doesn't listen and enjoys the wind. As a strong breeze catches him, the leaf twirls up into the air and performs several loopings. In the meantime the wind becomes stronger and it's almost impossible to stay still.

Feather seemed terrified for both her life and Alexander's. At this rate, both of them might as well be blown out of the room! Feather quickly moved over to the door leading out into the main hallway and pulled it shut. At least now neither of them would have to worry about being shot out into the main living area if the wind did indeed get any stronger.

"PLEASE, ALEXANDER!" Feathed cried once more, making grabbing at the air in a frantic attempt to catch him. "You've gotta get down from there! It's too dangerous!! The wind's too strong for you to be messing around like this!!!!"

Instead of listening to his mother Alexander just moves towards the center of the wind and wiggles around in the air. Right now the storm is so strong that it's impossible to see the leaf clearly anymore and you're not able to move at all. As your panic is on it's highest point the storm vanishes and a young boy sits on the ground looking over his shoulder to look at you.

"A-A-Alexander...?"

Feather's voice was suprisingly small and meek, especially compared to the screaming she had done only moments before. She slowly reached out a hand to the child, her eyelids fluttering as she fought off a sudden sense of lighthead-ness.

Alexander looked quizzically at his mother, cocking his head curiously and smiling at her as he took her hand. He squealed happily, speaking a bunch of random jibberish.

Shaking her head, Feather returned her child's smile and picked him up, doing a little twirl with him and inspecting his new appearance.

"My little baby..." She choked out, stroking his hair. She tried her hardest to fight back tears.

And the newest addition to the slightly-disfunctional family continued to babble and cheer.

*slowly, she pushed gently on the front door, wincing each and every time is creaked. Once the door was open just a couple of feet, she carefully slipped through into the apartment. Tiptoeing lightly across the floor, she sought out the kitchen. Once there, she placed a little plushie onto the center of the table, and tiptoed as carefully out as she had in*

Boom. Crash. Flap.

Repeat.

"ZOOOOOM!!" Alexander crawled around the apartment, goggles shielding his eyes as he sped forward, carrying both his newly found Eoghan and colorful bird plushie-which he had named 'Phillip'- around, as well. "PHILPHIL GO ZOOM!"

It was frightening how fast he could move. Counters, desks, tables, nothing were safe from the toddler's wrath.

Various things had been knocked over in his wake, ranging from salt shakers to pictures. Each were sprawled out on the floor.

"ALEXXX!!" Feather cried, chasing frantically after him. She had nearly slipped countless times on the items strewn across the floor, but somehow maintained her balance and continued to pursue the child.

The boy paid her no attention, as usual, and continued his rather 'twisted' sense of both playing and exploring his home at the same time. He squealed and cheered, and once finished with his campaign in the kitchen, rolled around happily on the living room floor.

"..." Feather crept up slowly behind her Eden as he continued to play with his now flour-coated plushies, completely innocent as to what was about to happen. "I..GOTCHA!" Not allowing Alex a chance to escape, the girl immediately pounced on her Eden and wrapped him up in her arms, laughing. "I win!"

Alexander chirped in reply, giggling and clapping. "Mommy! She wins!"

"That's right!" Feather replied, placing Alex in a sitting position on the carpet. "And because I won, you get to help me clean up this little mess you caused! If you do then I'll make you some cookies!"

"C-cookie?" Alexander cocked his head, blinking curiously. What the bloody heck was a cookie? Only one way to find out! He smiled, and repeated the word. Feather applauded, and stood up, motioning for him to follow her into the kitchen.

"And I'll have to clean those little plushies for you, too..." She murmered, watching as Alexander crawled towards her. Both of them smiled at eachother, and the girl turned away quickly and walked over to the sink, returning moments later with a moist, warm rag in her hand. She bent down and handed the cloth to Alex, and pointed him in the direction of a sugar-covered countertop. "You take the rag and wipe it back and forth across the counter, okay? Then all that funny white stuff will go away! Then I promise I'll make you some cookies!"

Alexander gurgled happily in reply, and with Feather's help, was on the countertop once more and was wiping away, goggles remaining strapped to his eyes. It seemed they were good for more than one thing, for once.
