That hadn't been intended as a joke. Which meant that something about him was downright silly. And okay, he got that part. Marks wasn't really afraid of looking stupid, just... you know... being stupid, like the kind of stupid that put you at the disadvantage. Being laughed at didn't count to that disadvantage, so it didn't really bother him. But it did mean that he was... not on the right track.

Which he knew, damnit! Every single time the kid got involved, things just went all to hell. "Marks," he said shortly, waving a hand negligently at Samael, "And what's the point of screaming? It's not what I'd call productive."

He frowned a bit, and smiled a bit, rolling his shoulder back and sighing. "If you need to hit something, Marks.." He paused on the name, "Then you can, if you want. Anger built up is quite unhealthy," he purred, and canted his head, licking his lips slowly.

Samael was a stubborn one. he'd want the anger to stop radiating off of Marks so it could be calm again...even if he didn't know the male well at all.

"You sound like you think I'm looking for a fight," Marks purred, waving down the bartender and ordering a beer. "I must have made a terrible first impression," sarcasm rang in every syllable. "But, despite the fact it sounds like you'd rather I not do something that might qualify as 'rash' - you're still sitting here. What's your deal, Sammie?"

Glancing towards the bartender, he waved him off when Marks' beer was brought, not really wanting anything himself. Hm, his sarcasm kind of made Samael want to slap him over the head. But, he restrained. "To be honest, I'm not sure why," he grinned, "For the sake of someone to talk to?" He replied, flicking an ear slightly.

"Sounds like you've got issues," Marks drawled lazily, leaving the beer entirely untouched, "Of the adrenaline-addiction variety. Maybe you should see someone about that - a professional. They can help." I can't.

"I've got issues?" he laughed, shrugging his shoulders, "I dont think I need to see anyone." He paused, and yawned quietly, "Am I not helping at all?"

On any other night, Marks would've steered the conversation very quickly in another direction. And that was still the best way to turn things, if he wanted to get away from the issue at hand... but that was just it. Getting away from the issue hadn't done much to solve it, thus far.

Possibly because he hadn't really gotten away from it, as he'd settled for living in the same house. "Didn't come looking for your help, so I don't see how that could possibly be a dissapointment," Marks shrugged the affirmation conjoined with absolution, taking a stiff drink.

A grin spread over his lips, and he waved gently, "I'm here to help if needed, you dont have to seek me out for it." Well, maybe he should drop the subject. He didn't know any other way to deal with it.

Marks snorted with a derisive head shake, "Like I said - Good Fairy," roll of eyes - then...

He shouldn't be so up in arms against someone he'd barely met. Well - no, he had every right to be and tended that way often enough. But there was something else at work here, and it was beginning to gnaw at the back of his mind like nothing else--

oh... Right. The smell he'd dealt with all day, the wistful remembrance of death unbound which had clung so distinctly to Skittles and Vain and had not yet gone away - because this Samael reeked of it too. "Hell, what is with you people?" he muttered, taking a long drink and glaring daggers at the bar counter.

"What's 'with' us?" He questioned sarcastically, assuming that the other was refering the scent of death--it was an obvious one, despite ways to hide it.

He chuckled, and turned back towards the counter, crossing his arms on it lazily. Parting his lips in a bored yawn, he rolled his shoulders back, then shrugged, not really knowing how to respond to the male beside him.

Marks' head shook involuntarily, for he was truly at a loss for words. In the past, when he'd had nothing to say he'd been satisfied with silence, but it was the rare moment when he wished to articulate but... couldn't. Because most of his ideas were pretty simple, really, and not that hard to sound out. Maybe it was the frustration building, boiling, congealing into something nasty. ...He had emotional constipation. Great.

"I feel like f*cking flypaper for f*cking undead freaks," he muttered, a hand reaching up to rub across his eyes. Undead might not be the right word - he wasn't sure how dead Chiron and Demetrius were right now, only that they had been... But Skittles and Vain, they were vampires. And what about this Samael? Argh.

Laughing gently, he called over the bartender, getting some wine once more. He took a sip, and sat down the money needed.

"I'm not completely dead," he replied, and looked over to him with a blink, "And I'm not one of those--'pick-off-the-weaklings vampires, either." He chuckled, and licked his lips.

Marks shot a dark look at Samael with a brief 'tsk tsk' sort of sound, one that wasn't so much admonishing but half-hearted warning, "Wouldn't share my leech-hood around here to loudly," he muttered, "At least one of the regulars kinda violently dislikes 'em."

Okay, he wasn't sure if Peregrine was a regular. But the younger Kingsley just didn't seem like the type to hang out in a joint like this (not that it was a dive, exactly) unless he was trying to drown his woes...

[OOC Note: Marks is mistaken in part. Peregrine does not like vampires, but since he is a member of the staff he is held to the code of nonaction and neutrality for M'lady's. Therefore, even if he dislikes vampires so much, there's nothing he can do about it as long as they're customers.]

He chuckled gently, and waved it off lightly, licking his lips and took another sip of wine. "Leech, mm?" He murmured, turning off his..comforting mode, and switching into more of a defensive, amused one.

"I dont think I need to fear one that dislikes me for what I am," he snickered, and canted his head.

Ironically, that Samael was no longer comfortable was far more soothing to Marks' instinct than his friendliness had been. ...Hunh. Did that mean he preferred conflict? Weird. But not entirely unsurprising, given the rate of unwarranted forgiveness he'd had to put up with in recent years. "Leech, bloodsucker, whatever, it's a pretty accurate summary," he shrugged, taking a drink.

Enh, fine. He doubted anyone had much to fear from Kingsley the younger unless they had a phobia of uptight accountants. Or whatever. "That's kinda cocky, Sammie," he snorted, "I'm gonna make a wild stab in the dark and say you don't have to fight much for feeding grounds."
