i think the writers, probably have`nt had much "female interaction" so therefore if they don`t even know about human women how could they make a race`s females? And the pred women being bigger than the men, it seems like they see women as somewhat intimidating, just my thought.

I don't doubt that some of the author's own persona and character are put into their writing but I don't think the lack of female interaction reflects on the authors encounter with the fair sex. If I'm not mistaken Steve Perry is a happily married man and has also writen a load of starwars books in which "female" jedi play rather prominante roles to the story.

Not to mention that Machiko Noguchi is a bad a**! (spelling? yes..no?) and is a main "female" and "human" lead.

And intresting comment and idea, but I don't think it's true in this case. whee

Ah another thought that was discussed a bit between me and another member was the nature of their emotions. They are intellegant and have secondary emotions as well as the primary ones. This being said...

...Do yautja's love?

Well, they don't live in a society that stimulates the development of actual love. I believe in one of the novels it was said they have a steady circle of females to mate with, but the males spend most of their time hunting so I doubt they would ever develop such a thing as actual love as we have it between man and woman.

The males in any case, even if ever knowing the feeling of love, have never learned how to express it. Compassion is something that doesn't exist in the yautja manual, and love's never stimulated, so if a yautja would be able to love, it would probably be selfish love, or just an anoyance to him.
Love may even be considered weakness by the yautja, as they see how humans on earth bond out of love and not for the sake of strong offspring, and how often the children aren't much of worthy prey either.

The females are probably more adepts of love and expressing it, as they have to take care of their children after all, and seem to live in a matriarchial society, thus with family members. However, it is probably not an active part of their society, more part of their basic instinct to take care of offspring.

It's not impossible that a female and a male develop a liking to eachother other than for the mating part though, just not so likely to happen. Mental love is already rare with us humans, so....

So my opinion would be yes, technically they would be able to love, but the chance of a yautja actually developing an emotion such as sencere love, is extremely unlikely, not with the type of society and life they lead.

Nice answer. That's kind of the road I was going down. That they could but for the most part it was either seen as a weakness or a very possessive kind basic kind. Though I think male can have it for other males. Let me be more clear...not romantic love but that kind you get for family that females get. I'm sure though they learn to not let it cloud their judgement as you've said. No mercy and what not makes it hard but I think it's there.

so now the pred men are selfish and insensitive, although they seem merciless hunters when it comes to people begging for their life. (sorry if i misinterpreted)

Well sweatdrop , I don't think that's wrong but I think it's worded funny. Sensitivity over all, means they have to be more emotionally aware and accepting. Nothing in the books really shows they give into that if they have it in their race.

Mercy, kindness, love...seem to be considered something that would get you killed. Their society is based on trying to stay alive.

What we might mistake for mercy is more respect for another warrior or another with strength. Finding pleasure in the company of a female who doesn't rip them to shreads is for continueing the hunt and cause hey...they seem to like it, eh? : wink : and they might prefer one female over another but I don't think it's anything more than a serface level...or if it does go deeper...they pass it off as something more acceptable in their race.

So yes in a way...they are more insensitive and self satifing but then I think so are the females really. And it's only by our standards not by theirs. I don't think they have a problem with the catch and release mateing ritual ::smirks::

The mating ritual can get out of control. The females can throw the males around when they get a little TOO happy or when the male insults them.

They probably love in ways that are different from our perceptions. They still have preference, so they probably base their mating practices on those ideals.

I always wondered what all they did. I thought that they probably workd as cultutral leaders/political types. They preserve the culture and rule the conquered land. They probably also keep the natives in thee conquered areas in line. So, they are probably a mix of politicians, soldiers, spiritual leaders, caregivers, and academics.

I hadn't thought about religious leaders. Intresting idea on that one. Think they have other gods besides the main one (paya) and the Dark Warrior (death)?

I'm sure they hunt too to keep terriories in line. Young male probably learn the basics of their culture from females. ::thinking:: and more about fighting from their betters once taken on by a clan.
Perhaps there ar eother gods in their culture. There were thousands of deities in Ancient Egypt aside from the major canon. Almost every family had their own "guardian deity" in addition to the official canon. It would be interesting if Yautja had the same ^.^
