Well, i never heard the legend, so the two ways i have heard how to do bloody mary are these
the first one, that i have tried, is where you stand in front of the bathroom mirror with the lights off and the door locked, and say bloody mary nine times, and if you really want her to come you rap on the mirror once every time you say 'bloody mary', then, shes supposed to come and try to kill you. When i did it, i stood there for like, a minute before trying it out (so i should have been used to the dim lighting.) and saw like, this face behind my shoulder. needless to say, seeing as i was in third grade at the time, i screamed and turned on the light, and ran into the door in my hurry to get out (i forgot it was locked xP)
the second one, is you spin around a certain amount of times and say bloody mary each time you spin, and whne you stop and look in the mirror, bloody mary is supposed to drag you into the mirror or something. but after spinning, all the bloodcells would be like, spinning around in your eyes and make it look all red. i never tri4ed this one because well, it was so easily explained confused

A version I heard is from More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. Here is the actual excerpt. wahmbulance WARNING: SCARY!!! wahmbulance Quote: "A Ghost in the Mirror" "This is a scary game that young people sometimes play- trying to conjure a ghost. Many don't really believe that a ghost is going to appear. But they try to raise one anyway, for the fun and excitement. "Some are willing to settle for any ghost, but others have a particular ghost in mind. One of these is a ghost named Mary Worth, who is also known as Mary Jane and Bloody Mary. She is the heroine of an old comic strip, but some say she actually was a witch who was hanged at the infamous witch trials in Salem, Massechusetts, in 1692."

The version I always heard was that you were suposed to stand in the bathrom with the lights off, stare in the mirror while saying "Bloody Mary" three times.
I can't remember if I did it when I was little, but now I probably wouldn't. Mirrors in dark rooms really creep me out. We have one in the hallway and I avoid looking in it when I walk down the hallway when it's dark. XD

Well, I do have a bloody Mary story, but its kind of funny actually. I went in with about 4 of my friends, and we did the Bloody Mary chant three times. Then my friend Brooke flushed the toilet. Everyone except for me and Brooke ran out screaming, me and brooke were laughing very hard xd

After reading your post I got the feeling somone was behind me and I turned around really quickly, and saw nothing. Now I am really creeped out! I hate that. xd

Dazzler I know the english verison on Bloody Mary. It's pretty much the same, you stand infront of the bathroom mirror and say Bloody Mary three times and she'll appear; you'll then die in some many days time or soemthing. I forget the ending. But in here in england Bloody Mary is linked to Mary Queen Of Scotts. She got the nickname Bloody Mary as her favourite punishment for prisoners was to chop off their heads. Then again that could of come from her sister Queen Elizabeth blacking her name. Either way it's a good story. actualy...she was called bloody mary because she bled.... because she had a cancerous growth in an awkward place. um... anyways. Now, here is the bloody Mary I know. First I'm sure you'll all heard that mirrors are not to be broken because they show yourself, they're an image of you. They reflect you. Which is why it's bad luck to break them. Also supposedly if you die in front of a mirror people are supposed to cover all the mirrors so that your soul can't be sucked into it, because [i forget why] it is easy for souls to be pulled into mirrors. So, the version I know is a little different. Usually she scratches your eyes out, and here's the story in this one case [its different depending on the girl's death, but she always dies in front of a mirror.] She was having an affair with a surgeon, and she was going to tell his wife, so he came, cut her eyes out [grossness] and left her to die. She tried to use her own blood to write the name of her killer, but wasnt' able to. So, if you have a secret about someone dying, or about killing someone, and you say her name three times she'll come and take your eyes out. Again, courtesy of Supernatural that TV show on the WB, but I've heard that one before with very slight variation. Like he wasa lawyer or somtehing, or there was no affair, but she wanted somethiing mroe or whatever.

I've tried it before. With my best friend. We waited till the witching hour. Held a doll so it was in full view of the mirror even. Chanted the words. And.. Nothing. Nothing Happened.

Lol, my friends and I tried Bloody Mary in front of the bathroom mirror at one of the house we were spending the night at. Nothing happened, but for the remainder of the night, we were all freaked out to go to the bathroom alone. Instead, we all went in pairs xd .
As far as the legend, I've heard a couple of different theories. One of my friends told me that it was a young woman who's husband killed both her and their baby because he suspected she'd cheated on him. One of my cousins said that it was a woman in the 1600's that killed little kids in satanic rituals and was hung. Finally, one of my sisters told me that it was Mary Queen of Scotts, or England's Bloody Mary. I personally like the second one best.

I have tried this once with four friends and I will never do it again. It was during a friends birthday party the five us squeezed into a small room that was under the stairs and closed the door. We had a small round hand mirror, keep in mind in this room it was pitch black absolutly no light what so ever so two of us started chanting bloody mary repeatedly in the genereal direction of where the mirror was being held up. a face appeared dimily in the mirror and they freaked out and tried opening the door to get out of the small room but the door wouldnt open and thier was not a lock on this door.
after about 20 seconds of twisting and turning the knob trying to get out the door opened and we all fell out of this room into the living room. After that I will never do bloody mary again.

I"m a person who " gets vibes " from things, and my friend was trying to get me to do this at her house, she lit the candle...and closed the door, shutting off the lights..and then she said something about " now do this and say bloody mary" and as soon as she said the name, ..I looked into the mirror, ..and it was like I was being watched...like something was waiting....and of course, I refused to do this, and I left the room.

Again, courtesy of Supernatural that TV show on the WB, but I've heard that one before with very slight variation. Like he wasa lawyer or somtehing, or there was no affair, but she wanted somethiing mroe or whatever. Mirrors reflect the soul, supposedly. If a soul is freed from it's body, as in death, it can become trapped in a mirror's reflection; kind of like a pocket dimension or something. In many cultures, images hold power. Just look at Poppets or Voodoo dolls. Witches use wax figures in bindings and healing spells, and effigies of christ are still carried by millions of people. It's safe to assume that this belief led to the idea that an image of oneself could hold power over you. As a side note, supposedly souls aren't all that can get captured in mirrors. Demons, too, can be captured in mirrors. Supposedly, if a demon sees it's own reflection in a mirror, it may not trouble that mirror's owner any more. I suppose because in owning the mirror that has trapped some of the demon's power, you, in a roundabout way, own part of said demon.
