"Patty-cake, patty-cake, bakers-men!" Fern sang, swinging her daughter through the trees outside of their small home. Iain was behind them, poking through some bushes, ignoring the little song. "Bake me a cake as fast as you can~"

"Roll it, and knead it and ...and..." Iain tapered off, looking up with a disgrunlted expression. "And spiders and creepy things like that!"

Fern arched an eyebrow, giving Lucy's stomach a little raspberry. "Spiders aren't creepy, Iain. You can keep one if you want. But basically, we mark it with a T! For baaaaaybeeee and meeee."

His eyes rolled and his small hand darted out, grabbing a small animal darting around the forest floor. "If Lucy talks, will this die?" The glare he recieved from his gaurdian didn't detour him, giving the small mouse a shake. It was stunned and didn't fight him.

"Iain, stop talking like that."

"Well, YOU can't kill it."

The boys voice was a grumble, pausing and squinting up into the trees. "Hey...Hey, lady. What's that? Did you loose some of Roses jewelry?" He pointed upwards and Ferns gaze followed his, eyes widening slightly.

"What...Here, Iain. Hold Lucy real quick, ok?" The girl was given to the older boy (who cooed over her like a crazy person) and then Ferns wings spread apart. She gave a quick jump into the air, wings giving several quick pumps of the air to fly up and grab the sparkly thing.

She landed as quickly as she started, crouching and studying the... "Ankh." Ferns eyebrows arched, glancing up at Iain. The purple boy shrugged, poking Lucys nose. "It's an Ankh necklace...well, hell."

"Put it on?" He suggessted, "It matches your hair. White and sparkly. Rose would like you wearing something pretty."

.....sad thiing was, he was right. Rose always got a kick out of seeing her lover wearing girlie s**t. So red eyes rolled and she slipped the necklace over her head, giving her son a grin.

"Look good?"

So many Iridae had emerged from their crystal. It was nice...And there was a lull in crystals who had fallen because of it. Perhaps the reason was due to the fact it would be a bad, bad thing to overrun Gaia with little bratlings from the heavens who had made such horrible mistakes. Then again, it could only be the cynical Medium's opinion that they were bratlings.

In any case, the woman was busy writing her monthly report to deliver to the heavens when her crystal decided to interrupt her. How come that damn thing decided to light up every time she was busy? Peering over into it, she froze.

Life? No. It...No.

The pen dropped from Medium's hand, ink blotting itself onto the smooth paper and ruining it. It would have to be written out again...But that wasn't something that was going to bother Medi at the moment.

He had fallen. He had finally...

Usually stone faced, the not-so-young woman stared into the crystal until it went black.

Things were about to get very interesting and not in the good way. At least, for Medium herself.

Why was she walking like this? She had promised to get Shui some clothing (Liusaidh's was too girlie, according to Iain with Rose as a random agree-er) and she HAD gone shopping, as the bags in her hand showed but... she wanted to take a walk.

How peculiar. With three kids and a hyperactive mate, you'd think the slim woman would have gotten plenty of activity. As it was, she still found herself drawn, over to the small path that led her to the house of someone she didn't know.

The necklace in question was tucked under her shirt, warm and vaguely glowing.

Honestly? It creeped her the hell out.

Now she was at the door.

s**t. What to -

"Hello?"

That was HER voice. Fern colored slightly, hopping back, but still she called out once more, "Hello?"

For once, The Medium didn't answer the call at the door. She remained there, trying to keep her usually well manicured composure intact. Unfortunately, she was doing a reletively bad job at it.

The voice calling a second time broke her out of her small trance and she turned her voided eyes towards the door. With a whim, the door opened and let light stream into the otherwise mostly dark cottage.

Fern should take that as an invitation to come in. Medi wasn't trusting herself to talk at the moment.

.......well, s**t. The door had opened and if she had learned ANYTHING from her classes as a child, an open door meant an invite. If she'd been lied to, then she'd find her teacher - four worlds and two universes away - and beat the s**t out of him.

He was stuck up anyway.

Fern pushed her way in slowly, leaving the bags just at the door. "I... Uhm. Sorry to intrude but... Lovely house?" She had failed the course about small talk. "Do you have a dragon-attraction spell or something?"

The woman was met by pitch black eyes in a mocha colored face framed by rather unattractive silver hair (As in it had not been brushed nor washed in several days) along with a very unhappy scowl.

Finally gathering her courage, the woman spoke - though her voice didn't sound quite as monotonous as it usually did, "Does it look like my cottage is crawling with dragons?"

Medi was met with a pair of wide brown red eyes and a long face, frame by wild white hair. It wasn't a silver, like hers, but it was without much color. "Well," The managed to squeak out, "It DOES look like it's housed by a not too happy lady with wings like my crazy sister-in-law."

A slight clearing of her throat, "A-And me... I'm a dragon? So yeah? A little? I just... I just felt drawn and...I'm sorry, I'll go." Her hand had gone to touch the necklace, under the thin blue cloth before she moved to bow out of the house.

The door slammed shut and locked. Another nifty little thing the Iridae could do with much problem. Special effects were really all she had anymore - but they were impressive.

"You will not," she spoke, though she did wish that she could. She had a duty and that duty was to let this woman in on what she was going to be facing. What the crystal - oh god, Life - was around her neck.

"You will sit down. Now."

"Oh s**t. Please don't kill me. I have a wife and three kids at home, lady, seriously." Her voice was quick, hand grabbing for the knife that wasn't there on her hip.

s**t. s**t, s**t.

She was ******** trapped.

"Sit down WHERE?!" Luckily, she saw a chair. The draconic female skirted over to it, sitting down quickly. "Seriously. Don't kill me. I'd get irritated?"

Medi gritted her teeth, "I may be Death but I'm not going to kill you. I have use for you."

...More than she knew. This woman here? Had the biggest job of all. Because if anything happened to Life, Medi would personally come after her and all she loved.

"And I'm not the only one..." the woman rose from her chair, gold and white robes swirling around her. She was impressive when full height.

"You're death? Ah ha... maybe you know my father in law? Where I'm from, he's the god of death and... this might not be the good time to mention that s**t.." She shut her mouth abruptly, staring up at the bewinged woman.

She looked like a Paige. An angry, female, un-butch Paige. That thought alone scared the bejeesus out of her.

"Not the only one...? That has a use for me? Why? Is rebirth gonna burst out of the wall and eat my face?"

She was joking but... oh. Oh.

"I do not," she answered, hands clenching at her sides, "And close. Life. But I'm sure he won't eat your face..."

The voided eyes narrowed as they locked in on the ankh around the woman's neck. The energy was definitely his.

"You have three children? You're about to have a fourth."

...And he's supposed to be my lover.

"...wait, what?" Her voice was small, eyes narrowing. "How the HELL am I going to have a fourth kid? Rose isn't pregnant and I didn't sign any more adoption forms or find a weird kid or an abanoned... oh s**t."

Realization dawned and her hand loosened a little on the necklace, head craning down to stare at it. "...s**t. Ankh. Life. We studied the religions, we KNEW.... Oh, ******** no. We can't handle a new kid. No no no... Rosie loves it but... oh s**t.."

"Tell her what she won," the Medium toned, rolling her eyes (though the action couldn't be seen) and sitting down once more. Her hands folded in her lap before she continued to stare at her.

"And he is more important than you..." she paused, a rare show of emotion flickering across her face, "know."

Hers.

"You know, if you're giving me a baby you actually CARE about, it's b est not to be a b***h," The draconic woman snapped out, tail twitching irritably. There was an almost waspish edge to her voice before she leaned back, arms folding over her chest.

"What are the do's and don't's? Tell me before I ******** up. I KNOW there are some rules, especially if he-" Her hand moved to tug at the ankh gently, "Is 'so important'."

"Don't take it off. Right now, he's feeding off your life. When he has enough, he'll crack the crystal and slowly solidify into one of my kind. A baby with wings."

She paused and reached up to touch her throat. The action was unwarrented...But it was something she remembered doing when they were together. Or, rather, what he used to do. A faint smile touched her lips.

A genuine smile. Hell must have had a snow day.

"He did something to fall..." loved me "and while I don't know what it is," I have an inkling "It was bad enough a mistake to cast him down to Gaia. Don't let him know. Keep him innocent as long as possible."

He deserves it.

Redemtion.

That made Fern pause, letting Medi touch and talk. Her eyes narrowed slightly before her features softened a bit, and moving to touch the chain at her necklace quietly.

"Redemtion." She murmured slightly. "A second chance... That I can understand." The former bodygaurd smiled mildly at that. "Alright then. I'll do my best. Everyone deserves a second chance."

"Yes. They do," Everyone but me, "Thank you. Now...Come back when it cracks, please? I..."

What was WITH her? God damnit, snap out of it! Life had been the only real weakness the Iridae had ever had. He turned her into something that she didn't like but at the same time loved.

God damnit.

"Go now," she hissed, returning to her old self, "I have better things to do."

With that, the Death Iridae stood up and walked up the stairs...That seemed to go nowhere.

And that was when the lights went out.

Fern wasn't stupid. There was something going on with the Iridea that she didnt want to voice. Her eyebrow arched and she didnt answer - either of the question/statements - and instead just stood up.

She moved to the door, unlocked it in the pitch black and wrenched open the door. Sunlight tumbled in, causing the woman to squint. But it was light - and she had a family. Fern took a deep breath, grabbed her bags...

and left.

Life was still with her.

Journal,

Another damn kid. Rose, of course, is thrilled (especially since the little b*****d is a boy) but...we have four kids.

Four. FOUR.

We weren't even supposed to have any...that's why we were BANISHED HERE. What the HELL. Liusaidh at least looks ours... and Iain looks like a freak of science...

Shui is just damn ******** cool. He was born with a MOHAWK.

But this.. this is just an unknown kid. Ugh. I can't stand it.

Meh... But he deserves a shot at a second life, right? Right. He's supposedly an angel that fell - or a something, something of Life, that made a mistake and is here to get a second shot at NOT being a douchebag.

Sigh... just sigh, journal.

-Fern.

"So we have another kid!" Glee.
"Yes." Reluctlance.
"A boy!" More glee.
"YES, Rose." Exhasperation.

A former queen of Avalon was giddy, settled on the floor with their three children. Her legs were crossed, Liusaidh (Luccee! According to Iain) in her lap and playing with her toes. She as close to talking, close to growing up, but Rose was drinking in her youth. It wasn't often (or at all ) that she was gifted with a child and she was intent and making sure she did the best she could.

Shui was giggling and wriggling on his tummy, face to face with his dragon - that thing both comforted and wooried Fern. It looked like she had when she was young - minus the two extra heads, of course, and SHE had wings. But still... it was good to know the boy had a form of protection and parenting - She never left Shui. She, being the key - Bo, that was. Iain was next to the boy-child, stapling some cloth to his newest pair of jeans.

They needed to be 'redone' he said. Little b*****d.

"More babies are GOOD things, Fern." Roses voice had softened and her eyes were on the white dragon. A smile was playing on her lips. "We are free AND we have a family. How can they be bad?"

"We could end up going home one day," Was the quiet response. The body gaurd moved to settle beside Shui, Bo and iain. Her one hand moved to touch the squirming babys back. The gesture elicited a soft coo from the child, his thin-whip tail twitching through the air.

Iains head shot up at those words and he gave her a Look to rival Roses. "You aren't leaving," The boy replied simply. "You are supposed to KILL for me. SO no leaving for YOU."

Her eyes rolled. "You do not even know what we are talking about."

Iains reply was as simple as his previous reply, "Leaving. And you won't. There's Luccee and Shoe and ME. And that thing." One accusing purple finger pointed at her neck and his cheeks puffed out, like a chipmunk. "The BOY necklace thing. I will MAKE them all my minions and with Luccees banshee power and Shui's dragon and....and me! We'll MAKE you stay."

Fern was silent, eyes on the ground. To contrast that, Rose was grinning at Iain. Her teeth were glinting in the rooms dim light.

"See, Fern?" The prncess inquired primly, "We're staying." She ignored Ferns glare, giving all three of their children a prim smile.

The body gaurd remained quiet for a long moment before leaning over. She tugged at Iains multiple braids softly. She was smiling, the expression twisting gently at her lips. "We won't leave," She assured the distraught child, "I still have to kill for you."

He beamed an then he paused. "Oi. Your... uh. Fern. Your thing." Iains brows moved higher on his grape-colored forehead, moving out to touch the necklace. Fern jerked slightly at the physical contact.

She glanced down at her chest (as flat as it was) towards the Ankh The whistish-blue thing was glowing, almost pulsating, on her chest.

It gave a shudder at the added attention from the others. Ferns eyes widened, fingers moving to touch the ankh. "Hey," The body gaurd whispered. "Are you becoming a puffball now, kid?"

Another shudder and the medallion cracked. A small puff of smoke, no larger then the palm of her hand, wafted from the pretty bauble. It was soft and so very pliable to the touch. Her finger reached out, nudging the little fluff gently.

"It... what IS it?" Iain exclaimed, moving to all fours to peer at the cloud in question. "Did you just give birth to a cotton ball?"

""It's a GHOST, you little snot! BAck off!"

Why was she back here again? Last time, this crazy lady had scared the s**t out of her, given her ANOTHER goddamn kid and successfully made her life more difficult. The draconic female grumbled under her breath, head shaking slightly, lips pursing slightly into a line. But there she was, at the house,w ith the necklace around her neck and the little essance thing hovering around it.

One calloused hand rose up, knocking briskly at the door, calling out. "Oi. It's me. Fern. Dyne."

Dyne? Already? Well. ********. Medium wasn't prepared for this, at all - especially not after that unsettling dream about the dream crystal. In fact, she had a very high suspicion that the higher ups had decided to make her life even worse. Well, not that she didn't deserve it.

Sighing, she stood up and walked to the door, opening it and staring disdainfully down at the woman. "Brat cracked already?"

Fern just stared back readily. "Well, if you don't want to see the brat, youdon't have to see the brat. I was just doing as I was asked." She retorted, hands moving to her hips almost defensively.

"And yes. He cracked."

Well, duh Fern

For the first time, Medium had the urge to apologize for something she said. But she wouldn't. Instead, she turned and entered the house - obviously expecting Fern to follow with Life. HER...Meh, not hers any longer.

Get a grip on yourself. Medium mentally chastized herself before sitting herself down on the couch, "When did he...emerge?"

"Yesterday, before dinner." Her hand went up to the necklace, touching it vaguely. The charm thrummed under her touch, moving after Medi. Fern didn't sit. She was here to let the other see the little necklace.

"Our oldest was quite excited... Did Life like activities before he fell? Because.." Another pet to the amulet, "Both boys are rather out there."

"I..." she paused, eyeing the wisp which seemed to want to be near her. A half smile touched her lips before she nodded, "Yes, he...Yes he did. He was one of the few I knew and worked with often - he was...Very full of life," she offered, almost laughing. He always made her go soft and it was something she had always been very upset about. Medi did not like being soft.

"You'll have a lot on your hands with him if he's anything like he used to be."

"Goodie. Three rambunctious boys." She shook her head with a laugh - Fern didn't mind. Iain amused the hell out of her and even Shui, with his screaming and flailings and needs made her happy. Rose was the one who liked the calmer kids, such as Liusaidh. Fern was the tomboy.

"Lady, we have a boy who staples his clothing together, another who likes to cause trouble as long as we can roll there and now this one. We'll be okay. I'll make them into my mini terrorizing army."

"Well, that's a good thing," Medium offered, resisting the urge to reach out and touch the wisp of life. She really needed to snap out of the mooshie mode that she went in at the mere mention of her past lover. Coughing, her face went back to the emotionless expression, "Do you have a name?"

"For him? It's Dyne. He's Roses dad and where we're from, a few world jumps or so, he's the god of--" Fern paused, lips twitching. "He's a king." She nodded firmly and gave the amulet a firm pet. "But it's a good name."

Medium raised a brow, "God of what?" Not much got past her - even if she didn't seem interested in anything. And inwardly, she approved of the name. She, however, wouldn't outwardly express her approval. It simply wasn't in her nature to do so.

"Death." She finished, shrugging a little. "His wife was the high priestess to the goddess of Earth and life." her lips quirked faintly, "And Rose is big on family names. So it was either Dyne or Thistle and I didn't want the kid named after a plant. And my dads name is a big no-no."

"Death? Interesting..." Medium murmured, tilting her head off to the side. Her curiosity was begging to be quenched but the Iridae refused to ask any more questions. She had already showed too much emotion to the woman and it generally wasn't a part of her general image she wished to project, "I think Life would have lynched you should you have named him Thistle."

: "I liked Dyne. He was known as The Bane of All Existance at one point. I dunno how he managed to snag a hot girl who was both Heir to a world and a priestess." She grinned crookedly at that, moving to sit on the edge of the couch, hesitantly. "Yeah. Thistle turned out to be a queer little scholar... His twin.. I dunno. Denegar was a cool little bugger, but he ended up ruling. Alysium..." Fern tapered off, peering at Medi. "Now, you know you're not the most cuddly looking, warm-appearing person ever, right? Alysium would make YOU piss yourself. I hope Life doesn't have to meet them. They're weird."

"I highly doubt that," Medium answered, giving a small shake of her head, "Interesting world you lived in."

That was likely the closest thing to a compliment that Fern would ever hear coming out of the Medium's mouth. Again, curiosity bubbled and begged for her to ask why they left but she squashed it down and folded her arms over her chest, "I'm guessing you have a room ready for...Dyne?"

Poor Medi. So curious and so little she could do about it. "It was a weird world." Fern agreed, leaning back slightly. "I miss it, though. I haven't been able to go Draconic since I got here."

She glanced at the other, head tilting to the side. "Mmm. We got a big house when we moved here, by a lake. He'll be with Shui-Long until they get old enough to walk around."

"Well...That's good," Medium ventured, unsure what else to say. She could recount so many tales of Life - No, Dyne now. No longer Life, but Dyne. She'd have to remember that. It was no longer him.

Not really.

The dragon woman paused, watching Medi through the corner of her eyes. "...want me to bring him back when he sprouts a physical body?" She offered, running a hand through her hair. "You might have to meet Iain or Shui in the process, but I'm sure Dyne'd like it."

"If you want."

She may not have shown how much she actually wanted it but she had a feeling that Fern could tell. After all, L--Dyne wouldn't cboose just anyone to be his. He would know. He would know and that was enough for her.

Medi had spoken to her. Made small talk. ...kind of. Told her to bring the amulet back. It was a hint enough to girl who worked in secretive areas for most of her life. "I wouldn't mind." Fern grinned a little, pointed teeth glinting slightly.

"Hey.. how many angel things are there?"

"Iridae," Medium corrected, raising a brow, "Perhaps...Seventeen? Eighteen? In that area..." There were plenty of more just waiting to make their mistake, she knew. However, she hoped that there was a long time before another fell.

She was getting tired of meeting with people.

"Iridae," She corrected for the umteenth time since she had recieved Dyne. "That's not too many..." Her gaze went down to the necklace and Ferns hand ran through her wife hair with a grumble. "Should I leave? I brought him by, like you said to, and now we've run out of things to converse about."

A small nod, "No. It's not. But there will be more. Many, many more...."

And she wasn't looking forward to having to take care of any more Spirit keepers. Unless they were all like Fern - which they weren't. Dyne did a good job picking his Spirit Keeper. Maybe he really did think of her afterwards.

"Perhaps you should."

Fern wasn't all that special - just a bit more foreward and uncaring about odd things. She'd been raised by a mercenary and then by a queen,a fter all. COnflicts arose.

She hopped up, fingers hooking in her cloth belt with a little grin. "Well, it was delightful chatting with you again, medium. Hopefully next time I'll have a squirming body of fallen Iridae Life. Sound good?"

"Aye," she answered shortly before standing up and starting towards the staircase to nowhere, "Take care of him."

It was the last thing she said before she disappeared up the stairs. It was time for her to go and think.

"Have fun, chickie." Fern gave a careless wave as she hopped out of the house, heading back to her own. Rose gave her hell if Iain was left unsupervised for too lon

So Journal.

We have another kid. This one is pretty cool - he has a hawk. Hardcore for a kiddlet, if I do say so myself.

He's kind of crazy, though. rose calls it 'accident prone' but I swear he does it on purpose. Every cloth he gets a hold of, all the hair that gets torn and tangled, dishes fall and people scream. When he gets old enough to walk, he's going to be an outright terror.

I really like him.

He has a dragon too... I can't find fault with that, now can I? Bo, her name is, and she's calm compared to his squealing, wriggling fury.

And he DOES scream. It's not like the agitating wail of a newborn, rasping and needing air before they KILL YOU, either. It's... it's just not as hard as that. That's all.

We've taken to calling him 'Bard'. Iain thinks it's hilarious and dtes on him. Calling him 'Chief of the Mis' while the baby wrecks havoc around the house. Rose thinks they're adorable together, one blue, the other purple.

Iain is still wearing odd things - mismatched, cut up and resewn by his own hand. I'm glad he's no longer ordering me to kill people for him - he seems to be content with how life is currently.

Life, I fear, will be disrupted yet again. The crystal amulate around my neck has cracked. Medium said he would soon be a baby - and from what she said, he'll be a very, VERY active little boy.

...I feel BAD when I brick necklace!Dyne to see Medium. Even if she's trying to look and be angry, she still looks so sad when she looks at the necklace. It makes me feel horrible.

There's more going on then I know. Much more. I don't like it, but there's not much I can do, now is there?

Shui was squealing, naked gums bared to the world with childish glee. His mohawk was spiked that day thanks to his older brother, squishing against the ground with the crinkling of dried hair gel. It didn't help that his tail kept beeping Liusaidh in the nose. The actions were making the changling girl whine and writhe on the floor.

SHE was a quiet child... She was the reason that they all remained sane. Silent for the most part, wriggling and content to just sit there, acting like a silly-pie where her siblings had to run around being stupid.

Rose was seated back against her arms, legs folded against her 'Indian Style'. Her small wings were folded against her back. Iain was sitting as well, with the children and toying with Shuis head and Liusaidhs' toes.

Fern had been rather antsy the last few days, leaving Rose to do the main watching for their children. She didn't mind... it was just weird.

"Where's the lady?" Iains voice broke through her silent thoughts, making the woman blink. When Rose glnced up at him in surprise, he grinned widely, a rare expression on the usually sadisting little kid. Iains nose crinkled, almost like a dogs, and he repeated his question.

"Ferm. Where is Fern right now, Rose?"

"Uhm.." Rose paused, her face still a light pink at getting aught not paying attention. "She is... wandering. I THINK she is wandering. Let me check." There was another pause and her voice rose a little so her mate could hear her. "Fern!"

No response from the missing drago.

"FERN!"

Iain rolled his eyes, groaning and pushing him up to his feet. His sneakers crunched a little on the carpet, head giving a rough shake. The braids jangled a little against his head as the purple pre-teen moved to the back of the house where his Gaurdian was usually found skulking about when she was in a bad mood... which it appeared she had been for the last little while.

Even Iain had noticed, as oblivious as he was.

Fern was leaning on a windowsill, her frame cool and sillouheted in the light. Her hair was tied up, shockingly enough, and her wings were almost limp. The tips, Iain saw, were dragging against the floor. The Bishounen furrowed his eyebrows together, shuffling his way over towards the prone, lithe frame.

“Fern?” Iain grinned again, pushing at her gently, eyebrows furrowing slightly. He didn't like this quietness from her! “Hey, FERN! Wake the ******** UP!”

His voice was louder then before and a little bit changed with his new height. Fern jumped, spinning around with wide eyes. They stayed that width only for a moment before narrowing into little slits. “What do you think you're doing?! You scared the s**t out of me, you little brat!” Her snarling tone was lost on the violet boy, his eyebrows arching smoothly.

“Rose called you. Twice. And you didn't answer so I came to get you.” He shrugged a little bit, fingers moving so his thumbs could hook into the hem of his jeans. Mismatched, crazy a** weird jeans. “And you're here. You should come downstairs.”

“Am I a bad mother, Iain?”

The boy blinked a few times before he frowned, arms folding over his chest. “How the hell should I know, Fern? You aren't my mother. You just take care of me. Ask Bard or Luccee that when they're older – not me. I'd suck as an opinion.”

Fern scowled a little bit at that, arms folding tightly over her chest with a little scowl. “Why you little ungratful—holy ******** as she was about to chew out the little b*****d (how DARE he say she wasn't his mother – she was taking CARE OF HIM, wasn't she?! Of COURSE she was!) about just how damned ungrateful he was, her necklace started to shine again. Ferns eyes were wide and her mouth ajar, holding her hands out to catch the ******** no, not right now! We have THREE and I'm inSECURE RIGHT NOW.”

Yes, that really didn't matter to the child. Iain was laughing even as his gaurdian started to freak out, watching as the necklace lit up and the moment the light faded, there was a little boy clutching onto Rapiers necklace.

“Well, MOMMY. Looks like you have FOUR now. Be insecure later, yea?”
