Hadrian had the strange feeling that Marc and Thorn were at each others throats while still maintaining a somewhat polite facade. Or like it was a some sort of combat, except that it was all verbal to see who could make a hit without obviously hitting.

The man had been about to answer Marc, agreeing that it was a good idea...he still needed to get his new monocol, after all. He wasn't even entirely certain how to go about getting one - he'd brought that one with him from before they shifted to Gaia.

But, as Thorn had interrupted...he gave his answer for politeness sake, though it was apparent that the scientist felt awkward.

"I lost my monocol...I'll need to replace it."

"Monocol?" with an expression of delight surprise, he invaded Hadrian's personal space-- or rather, took off enough that sleeve could brush sleeve. "You mean the one you wore at the party?" with a slightly chastised look towards Marc, he smiled.

Innocently.

"I have it. It must have slipped into my pocket while... well." he stopped, a slight shy smile as if this was more than the present company needed to hear. "It's at home, Hadrian. Why don't you come by and pick it up?"

"It's okay. We can buy a new one." came the quick, brutal answer from Marc. Not looking at Hadrian or at Thorn, he turned his glance to his wine. "Hadrian, I'll buy you a better one."

There was no way he was letting his mage step into the other man's house.

"It won't be trouble, Marc." Thorn assured him, mischief blinking in those eyes. "I'd be delighted to have Hadrian for company... and you too, princess!" he said, looking down at Haki.

Haki beamed. "I want to go." she responded.

But thorn hadn't invited Marc.

Trapped. That was how Hadrian was feeling - that Thorn was trying to 'trap' them, so that they couldn't refuse and still maintain a facade of politeness. Yet Hadrian had no intenion of going to Thorn's - especially not without Marc. He was still in confusion over what had happened the last time they'd been alone together - he didn't need another thing to be confused over.

So he...didn't quite lie. He exagerated.

"Thank you for the offer, but...we were planning to make this a day for the three of us."

That could be taken more ways then one. Perhaps taken in a way to get Marc invited, or in a way to make Thorn go away - or any other number of ways. But either way...it would take a lot, and probably Marc himself 'supporting' it for him to go to Thorns.

Thorn smiled. "Was it?" he asked easily. "Well then, next time then." reaching into his pocket (which was quite a move. Leaning towards Hadrian to get to his trousers) he pulled out a wallet, and a slim white card.

"This is my handphone number." he smiled. "Few have it, so reach me when you want your monocol back." Oooh. How that man could make one innocent word sound so perverse.

Haki saw the wallet as something else. Brightening at the appearance of money, she leaned over and batted her baby greens.

"Present?" she asked. "For me?"

Hadrian took the card, the discomfort actually apparent on his face. Honestly, if Marc hadn't been there - he'd have been slightly uncomfortable, but not as much as now. He was mainly uncomfortable because he was worried about what his lover would think if he was striking up conversations and so forth with Thorn.

Then Haki's question - he had to blink at that.

"Haki...that isn't exactly polite."

To ask for 'presents' when someone pulled out there money? No, it definintly wasn't.

Marc scowled too. Was his daughter making a play at his boss? Not only was he not good enough for her, she was too young! Much too young. Wasn't this more extreme than illegal?

Thorn however, took this in stride. Laughing, he slipped the wallet away. "Maybe next time, precious." he responded, grinning. "Why don't I take you shopping one day?" he nodded at Marc. "You have a delightful daughter. I'll have fun, being her uncle."

Her uncle?

Marc hurriedly tried to change the subject. They weren't brothers-- but this was too... too much. The man was assuming too much! "I think our food is here." he said swiftly, hoping that the waiter laden with plates would stop at their table.

Maybe food would shut the man up.

"So, Hadrian." Marc said, nodding his head. "I know this jeweller whose about a block from here... why don't we go order than monocol right after the meal?"

With one foot, he casually tapped Hadrian's ankle.

With luck, the food was theirs.

Hadrian gave a nod to Marc, answering with a slight smile, "That sounds good...I should be getting a new one, anyway. My other is fairly old."

It was an odd pang he felt about that. He couldn't explain it, but...something in him really didn't like the idea of getting a new monocol. His old one was - a remnant of home. One of the few actual physical objects that was just like it had been at home.

But he pushed it to the back of his mind, for now.

Taking a bite of his food, he gave an approving nod to Marc - he liked it.

Thorn wouldn't give up! Oh no.

"Garlic?" he noted with mild interest. He looked over at Marc, a private smile that seemed to suggets something... more. "It was never your favorite food."

"It still isn't." came the automatic reply, and then a frown. "I don't hate it, but..."

"You can't stand the smell." he noted. "You never could."

Marc scowled. That was WHY he had told Hadrian to order it. To stop any potential exhibitionist scenes in front of his daughter. But there was no way he was actually going to say that out loud. And yet that man was suggesting... with a disgusted glare smothered only by professional courtesy, he sighed.

"Haki? Do you like your food?"

Haki liked the tension. So she answered with a quick smile. "Uncle? Try?" she suggested, spearing the canneloni and offering the man a bite.

Disgusting, disgusting child.

Marc turned his attention back to Hadrian. "I'm glad you like it." he siad quietly.

...Marc didn't even like the smell of it?

Why had he recommended it, then? It seemed - odd. And the mage was quick to come to his own conclusions about that...and he completely missed the real reason. The only reason he could think of, would be so Marc had an excuse not to kiss him.

And honestly, that made him feel a bit hurt.

While before the party, it might never have crossed his mind - but what he'd been told when drugged stayed with him. Unconciously, but there was still that doubt there. Unless he suddenly decided to undergo Freudian psycho analysis, the reason of that doubt really wasn't likely to become clear.

As the other man spoke to him however, he hurriedly tried to hide any of that hurt that may have appeared. So, fixing a slight smile onto his face, he responded.

"Do you like yours?"

It was silly, but Hadrian didn't really feel like eating him much, anymore. Not if Marc had suggested it for the reason he thought he did. But he couldn't just stop eating now...so he would continue. He just likely wouldn't eat very much.

((... ...

I can't answer now.

But Hadrian didn't feel like eating Marc much any more? xd xd ))

"It's good." winding up a little bit onto the spoon, he lifted it up and offered it to Hadrian. Leaning forewords, he tried to more or less block Thorn out. What was that man's problem? Interfering and looking at Hadrian with such hungry eyes.

As if Marc would share.

Haki stared, seeing the look exchanged and tried to think up an excuse as to why Hadrian was ignoring her. Why would anyone want to ignore her?

This man didn't. So she liked this man much much better~ <3

((...*dies* redface

I didn't mean that!!! gonk ))

Hadrian was a little surprisd when Marc twisted up some food on his spoon and went to - well, it looked as if the man was trying to feed him with it. Romantic, some would think...and he supposed that it technically was. But with the way Thorn kept looking at him, it felt awkward.

Still.

Going ahead and trying it, the mage tried to ignore the extra pair of eyes at their table, and gave an agreeing nod; it was good.

((>.> ...they should go - mini golfing or something. And Thorn could tag along >.>))
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2006 9:23 am

((*snickers* minigolf! Oh my. >> do you watch the simpsons?))

Marc smiled, a little bit happy, a little bit proud. See? They could more or less pretend that Thorn wasn't there, continue as if it was still a threesome, a family date of sorts.

His smile deepened as he nodded his head. "See? Before, you would have never tasted it." Before Marc came along. Before Haki came along. Before they had met. That was what Marc meant. "I need to take you to more places. There's indian as well, which is... different."

"You haven't tried indian yet?" Thorn interrupted smoothly. His eyes lit up. "I know a restaurant three blocks from my office. Marc used to really enjoy their butter chicken. When you come to collect your monocle, why don't you drop by? The two of us can have lunch together."

Marc turned slightly slitted, angry eyes. Was the man going to interrupt everything that he wanted to do with Hadrian? God damn it.

((Occasionally, though not often ^_^. Next post or two, wanna jump to minigolf?))

The air was getting tenser, Hadrian could tell. It would seem like things were starting to lighten up a bit, and Marc was relaxing a bit -

And then Thorn spoke. The expression on Marc's face...well, that made it pretty clear to him that his lover was going to explode soon. He looked pretty angry. So, he attempted to difuse the situation.

"No, I haven't had it."

Well, that wouldn't work. Focus back on Marc...

"I'm afraid the most 'exotic' of this worlds foods that I've had yet, is Pizza. It's...strange, but it seemed alright."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 01, 2006 9:37 am

((... well. Homer and Marge do it inside a minigold structure thing. ninja ))

Thorn smiled gently, oblivious to the looks directed in his direction by his employee. "Pizza, is it?" deciding that the best way of proceeding would not be to attack Marc's tastes, he nodded. "Indian, Japanese. It's all pretty wonderful, if you know where to go."

"And I do." came the quick response. "So there is no need of you to concern yourself, Thorn." the voice was quiet, pleasantly forced to a point that it was mockery.

But Haki liked what was happening. "Unca?" she asked, and Marc stared down, horrified. When had this man convinced his daughter to call him Uncle? "Finished?"

Thorn looked down at his plate. "Hardly, sweetheart." he responded. "Why, do you want to do something else instead of eating?"

Marc decided that this was a very, very good idea. "Thorn, as soon as you're finished, why don't you take my daughter out and entertain her a bit? She seems to like _you_."

Haki had no taste sometimes. And maybe this would give him some time alone with Hadrian.

((XD I see why you're laughing, then.))

That really didn't work. And when Marc spoke...this was going to end badly, Hadrian could tell. And it was incredibly uncomfortable being the one that was going to cause it - as, in a way, they were both growing tense about him.

Well, Thorn didn't seem tense. Just Marc.

At the comment of Thorn taking Haki out...Hadrian thought that sounded like a good idea. He could calm down the other man, spend a bit of time with him, and Haki could enjoy herself. Of course that didn't really mesh with his excuse of 'family' bonding, earlier...
