The first time I fought Sephiroth, I beat him with my characters between level 45-55, no kights of the round (my first playthrough I had no idea it even existed and my friends were shocked to learn I spanked Sephy without it), and I had level 3 limit breaks at best. Sephiroth isn't as scary as he might seem, as long as you have the right equipment, a way to protect against status effects, and some sort of plan.
Best thing to do if your characters are a low level is to Equip as many characters as you can with the ribbon accessory, which protects against all status effects (you can morph master tonberrys to get them) the more people in you primary party equipped with this accessory, the easier this fight is. Next, make sure you have plenty of ways to heal and keep your MP up (if you only have one ribbon, definately give it to your healer). Reserving one character for healing and item use is a great way to go. Make Cloud your primary physical attacker, and use your third character for going between magic attack and healing/item support for the other two.
All you really have to do is be able to keep your HP up, get rid of status effects (especially frog) efficiently, keep attacking as much as possible, and you'll beat him. If I could do it with dumb luck, you can certainly do it with a well thought out plan ^_^

I beat him, but since I was at level 99 and used KOTR materia with mp absorb it doesn't really count.
Tell you what thought, it took forever to get done with the fight. Still Sephiroth only got in one turn and used that to cast wall on himself so instead of around 7000 I only inflicted about 3000.

I was Real Sly like and played the game for 97 hours >.> then went down to seph a kicked his a** cause i had cloud with the counter mag - mime counter mag - mime, then i had final attack phoneix i used a couple of hero drinks and omnislashed and waited =D. Everyone was lvl 99

try gettin knights of the round and then use alexander. and if u have enough bahamut zero after that just hack away wit 4x cut

Well if you don't want to spend a few hours getting omnislash and KotR then i suggest you start the battle by using RESIST on all party members, this makes it so his pale horse attack won't frog you..if you don't have RESIST i believe the item "vaccine" has the same affect. now you should blast him with shadow flares and ultima, possibly paring one with HP ABSORB materia to heal HP. use regen or cure3 for healing. Limits when acquired. after SUPER NOVA make sure and heal up, i believe this attack cannot kill you and only deals proportion damage, but i haven't played in a while so don't base a plan off that..either way heal after.

I wish i had known about that stuff my first time. Took me 2 hours the first time I beat HIM. I was like level 25-30, no ultimate weapons, no KOTR materia, no omnislash. I was clueless. Thank Aerith for Pheonix and Hades materia. I was screwed, I guess I got lucky; somehow I managed to survive Super Nova twice and heal myself. It was a bit poetic when I ended the fight with Safer Sephiroth in critical health, no mp, and a single slash from Cloud (my last surviving character) dealing about 500 damage with the enhance sword. Sounds like I made it harder on myself that I needed to. I shouldn't have dove into the crater at my first opportunity.

I just beat Sephiroth a few days ago for the first time.I had Cloud maxed out on hp & mp.Around 55 to 65 in levels.I had Yuffie with UlTami & W-magic that you can get in the final area of the left-up route.Tifa & Cloud had their level four limit breaks.& i also had Odin summon on Cloud.Everyone had a master level restore materia on them & tifa & yuffie had that enemy-alled.

KOTR and Omnislash is the key of defeating him. Depends though how you use them and more specially the Cure3 youll be damned if you dont have those...

I usually go over board and have all of my peoples levels and materia maxed out long before I go fight Sephiroth, so its usually a pretty easy fight. Lol, the timeclock is WELL past the 99 hour mark.

i have not beaten him yet i am only lvl 53 right now best bet is to lvl up and try when you are a really high lvl thats over 90

Just use Knights of the Round Table and the use that materia that lets you copy the last move made so you don't have to use as much MP to summon them and that'll defeat him in no time. Only thing is you have to get the Final Gold Chocobo and walk to the 4 corner island to get the summon. Almost makes the Sephiroth fight boring. sweatdrop
