Another interesting thing to think about. Cloud assumed many of Zachs memories and emotions, right? So then, why did he not recognize Aeris, and also was his protectiveness of her merely the emotions that Zach felt for her and not his own in the first place. There is also the question of why she trusted him so easily. Was it possible that she saw Zach in him? hmmm..yhea. Can you folks tell I have been reading Conflicts of Intrest again. If you don't know what that is just pm me and I'll explain. It's VERY intersting.
He only took on Zacks persona because it was a logical thing for him to do in trying to find himself during his bout with Mako poisoning. He manipulated the stories Zack was telling him during their journey from Nibelham to Midgar and placed himself into them. He was piecing his own life back together, coming out of the comatose state, and Zacks stories were what helped him come back, even though it cost him his own true memories. Zacks life was an ideal for him.
He didnt know Aeris because he had never seen her before and Zack never mentioned a name. Only that he had a place to stay back in Midgar.
Aeris saw Zack in Cloud, which is why she wanted to meet the "real" Cloud as she states on the Gold Saucer date if you have Aeris.
