Nuala Xagarath Ankor I thought Sonic the Movie and the OVA were different? Nope. They're the same film - or, rather, two episodes of something compressed into a single film. Ah, right. I was confused by generally hearing quite well of it when referred to as the OVA and poorly when referred to as the Movie.

I was confused by generally hearing quite well of it when referred to as the OVA and poorly when referred to as the Movie. That's probably because the English dub a) had appalling voices (witness Tails with a blocked nose and terrible cold) and b) had pieces cut out of it. Generally, when people refer to the OVA, they mean the Japanese language original, while referring to the Movie means ADV's edited together English language version. So there you go smile It's also why I meant to get the R1 version of the DVD, because that had the uncut Japanese version on it. But it went out of print while I wasn't looking. One of these days I'll get it off eBay, but my quest for the Doctor Who New Adventures is getting in the way at the moment... DW

*Baps Nuala on the head* Hey! When I passed the hybrid DVD out to you, you promised to burn a copy for DW. Poor girl needs to see the giant innuendo based on Metal Sonic's voyeurism!

DW I guess that explains why I haven't seen it anywhere within the past year.... At least I got my VHS version...Now if only I had a VCR. : p And...exactly what was cut out, anyway? I mean, for a video that claims to be suitable for 7 years and up, there's quite a bit of humor that's not quite at their age range. The only edit I could figure is when Sonic's flipping off Metal Robotnik....if that's what he's doing, anyway. I never did find that out; if that's an edit, that's a pretty danged well-done one.

I never heard of this movie untile now. I was really young and poor during those years of my life. I couldn't even watch the Sonic cartoons. We had very few channels, no computer, and hardly any outside communication except for nearby close areas in the citys. So this flew right past me along with some other Sonic things. Is there any site with snapshots and stuff about it?
Also...What does OVA stand for?

YamiLover13 ...So this flew right past me along with some other Sonic things. Is there any site with snapshots and stuff about it? Also...What does OVA stand for? I *think* it stands for original version anime (i.e. uncut and undubbed). I can't swear to that though. As usual, Wikipedia comes through with the knowledge, though doubtless there are plenty of other websites: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog:_The_Movie Hope this helps, DW

I remember seeing this on Ebay once not too long ago. Actually I think it was in March. DB was asking for it and I think it was a bootleg DVD version because the cover was different. It was sold really cheap too. I didn't know what it was. I thought it was something fake.

The UK release had an entirely different cover to the US - IIRC, the US just has Sonic on it; ours had Sonic, Tails & Knux too smile That might have been the difference. I do keep meaning to pick the R1 version up off eBay, just haven't got round to it yet. The latest thing to get in the way was buying a knitting pattern for a Starsky style cardigan... DW

DW The cover had Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles on it, but they were the much newer looking images. In fact, I think all three of the images came from the cover of Sonic Mega Collection. DB hasn't complained though, so I guess it works right. Maybe someone just made a custome cover because they lost the case or something. The box Cover still said the names of each of the two episods as well.
