The Gay Inferno

PostPosted: Tue Oct 30, 2007 12:42 pm

There are so many stereotypes that everyone just kind of goes along with. I mean, 90% of the gay/lesbian people I have met in my life don't embody ANY of the stereotypes out there.

I think a lot of people justify their discrimination and hatred by using the Bible. Which is a crock of bull cause the Bible only holds ONE verse that even vaguely references any kind of homosexual behavior. And the same chapter states that it is a sin to eat shellfish. But how many christians do you see avoiding shrimp cocktail?
The idea that the Christian God hates gay people was an invention of the church, nothing more and nothing less. The church is just doing what it's done for a thousand years; justify their discrimination using Jesus' name.

As for the use of the word 'gay', I think it's perfectly fine as long as you're not using it in the derogatory way.

What are the stereotypes anyway? No... don't tell me. The fact that I only have a vague idea of what they are is a good thing, as it means I can't use them as a basis of judgement.

I don't quite get the biblical justification myself, but it's understandable. Homosexuals can't exactly 'be fruitful and multiply' and have also been historically frowned upon by the church. History has a funny way of skewing lenses.

I've been gay my whole life. I know this because I had crushes on girls since kindergarten. But then I got molested by my uncle, and after I came out, my mother opted for therapy, thinking it was what my uncle did, and I tried to explain to her that I was born this way, that I've ALWAYS been this way. I've had to explain this to many guys who think that it was because of what my uncle did, but it's not. Another friend of mine, great guy, doesn't understand women at all, was all "So it wasn't him? Then how did you end up gay?" I had to explain it to him too.

Now there's this one guy who really pisses me off. He comes up to me, he's friends with my friend, and I took off a hat I was wearing and he sees my super short hair and he says

"You should grow your hair out, everyone is going to think you're a lesbo."

My friend laughed his a** off and I had to explain.

"Okay, first of, why would it be so bad if people thought I was a lesbian? Secondly, I AM."

And he got all mad. I showed my friend a picture of my girlfriend once, and he saw it, and he was all "heeey can I get her number?"

"No." "why not?" "She's my girlfriend." "Hey, she's bi, right? She and I could have some fun!" "Okay, again, one, she's a lesbian, so no, two, let me re-phrase. She's my FIANCEE."

"Oh."

Then later he started going on about how it's a choice and that I could be with any guy I wanted and why don't I want to be NORMAL like all the other girls. Argh. Anyway, yeah, hi, bigots piss me off.

I cut my hair short, really short.
No one really looks at me weirdly, but that has to do with the fact that I'll wear cheetah print, camo, and plaid all in the same outfit.
People just expect weird things from me.

I'm bi, but I've never had people discriminate against me for it.
On the basis of hair, even?
That's just crazy.

But hey, that's human beings for you.
The same species that brought you the Holocaust and the Crusades.

Mmm that's not really the thing, because Christianity, unlike the OT brought something new: Celibacy (and thus not reproducing) and dedicating self entirely to God is honoured. So not reproducing is no longer considered wrong. What speaks against homosexuality, or more precisely homosexual acts, are some passages in Romans chapter 1:
"1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet."

Honestly although I am aware that homosexuality is not any worse sin than others and that I am not better than anyone else because I am not holy either, I just wouldn't want to approve of actions God doesn't approve of... If I wasn't a Christian I wouldn't have any problem with it :/

And to the original subject, I know a lot of girls who have short hair but I never thought that they might be lesbians because of that o_O I don't think hairstyles and sexual orientation are related in any way razz

I think it's sad that gay children feel so much dread when coming out to their parents or loved ones. I've come out to my friends, peers, and sister as a lesbian. But I can't tell my parents because they're much too biased.

However, I feel some relief in the fact that people are more tolerant towards gay people now then a couple generations ago.

I dont feel being gay is as much of a difficulty as it was before.

Call me biased but i have gay friends, and my fiancee's mother is a lesbian raising 2 kids with her life partner..And the only person who says they have been disrespected in the past for it was his mum.

I think right now, there is a dedlock on racism around the world. And i dont mean blacks, i mean Americans traveling to the middle east, Americans traveling to South America, Mexicans visiting or immigrating to America, Polish immigrating to the UK, etc.
