I'm not really sure....I guess I wouldn't know untill I was put to the test. Hopefully I'll never have to decide.

That is such a hard question and I hope I never to face it. I always thought about that myself. I'd hate to pick myself over another but then when I think about what someone who'd truly love me would go through if I sacrificed myself for them... It makes you think.

Now, now, there's a flip side. Ture, the person may live with guilt and remorse, but they may also live with the memoery that you died for them because you loved them so very much. This doesn't hold much weight, here, I'm guessing, but John 15:13 says,

" No one has greater love than this, that a man would lay down his life for his friends."

So, it takes great dedication to die for the person you love. That's saying that you love them more than anything on this Earth. That you want them to live on in your stead.

Hello, guys, I'm new to the guild and just thought I'd post on this topic because I've been thinking about it...

I don't believe that anyone can answer this question correctly because once you are in that situation you don't think about it. Logic has no place in that adrenaline rush, and you either do or don't think about what's going to happen. You either plunge right in or don't do it, and you don't think about the consequences until you know its too late. That is how it works. Most people, however, will give their lives up for complete strangers who just happen to be in trouble. It isn't just about giving up your life for someone, though. It's about risking everything, safety, family, comfort, and, yes, life, for a person that needs you, be they friend, enemy or stranger.

*whoo* I'm done.

Wow, such a difficult question. I do love my physical body, it's the best gift I've ever been given! But I think it would depend on the situation. Right now I am a little attatched to life... and I don't have any one person who is the "most" special to me... the only woman I am in love with is the Earth... so if I were to die knowing that the Earth would be healed after my death, I would TOTALLY die for our mother.

But dying for a person... wow... that would really have to depend on how I felt at the time I guess. I don't wan to say that I would give my life becuase I don't feel so dedicated to the needs of another to live. Not really saying though that I feel I am more important... jeeze.. hard question.

Technically I have died for people I love, twice in fact. The first time I was clinically dead for three minutes before they revived me, the second time I was revived almost immediately. Seems to this day I still have a chivalrous streak that used to get me in tons of trouble, considering the places I used to go and life I used to lead. I don't regret my decision either time, because before I died both times I managed to do enough damage to my opponent to render them useless, saving those I care for. Don't get me wrong, I love life, and I'm not suicidal in the least, but under duress I have proven to be the hero/martyr archetypes, and I accept that. Heh, one of my old nicknames was Quixote, mostly because I seemed to keep tilting at the proverbial windmills regarding those I love.

Btw, didn't see any tunnels, lights, etc. during my episodes. 3nodding

I guess I can see your point in saying that there are things worse than death. However, your example situation in which a person would live a life of remorse and regret because they let their loved one die is not the conventional way of interpreting that philosophy. Personally, I think I would die for my loved one, because while I agree there are things worse than death, I also believe that where there's life, there's hope. By allowing my beloved to live, I pass on to them a type of hope I will likely not have after I take their bullet. They may still have time to love and care for other people, such as their family, during their lifetime. We must also think of people that they love, or that depend on them living - not just ourselves and our loved ones.

i just realized I'd definately die for the person I love... if that person were to be MAMA GAIA! I'd surely die for the wellness of Mother Earth

Thats true...
And I also think the person I would die for, has more of a future, which is also something I would think about

i choose b any way. my partner knows why i would die for him and the thoguth would comfort him enoug hto get by. and i told him if i ever die not to wait around or give up, he'd be depressed for years but eventually he would search for a new love because he knows its what i want him to do. and hed most liekly find someone like me. and that made me all sniffley. my bf and i have the best relationship ever.

I hate feeling love for someone, but alas, It happens. Yes, I would die for him. I've dreamed of his response to that.
