The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
*The Things They Carried by Tim O'brien
*The Catcher in the Rye ... *doesn't remember author*
almost anything by Oscar Hijuelos (i wouldn't recommend The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love, actually, which is his highest rated book)
Haroun and the Sea of Stories heart
anything by Kyoko Mori, especially if you're into Jap stuff.

*WARNING: adult content; not suitable for children. in other words, if you have a problem with reading/hearing foul language, i suggest not reading these.

*must go to class now* bye! *waves*

It Takes an Angel by Dan Yates. The whole series is really good but thats my favourite. The first one is Angels Don't Knock. You can get them at the Beehive Bookstore.

Gwyndara
David Eddings his Belgaraid and Mallorean series, as well as his Blue Rose and Tamuli series.

Blue Rose (Saphire Rose): aka the Ellenium. wink

Seeing as a lot of people have posted a large variety of books, I will ask you a question: what reasding level are you looking for?

For example: I find Terry Brooks a little long-winded (though I heart his battle scenes); Piers Anthony, while funny, has a tendency towards melodrama (especially in his Xanth novels, though I must admit to having read most of them); David Eddings is GREAT, though his characters in various stories sometimes seem a mite similar; JK Rowling I think would be an obvious suggestion rolleyes ; Robert Jordan (wasn't meantioned) is extremely longwinded eek ; etc . . .

Regardless of what you're looking for, I would like to recommend the following:

The Warlock Inspite of Himself - Christopher Stasheff
DragonLance Chronicles - Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman
The Daimond Throne - David Eddings *cough*
Song in the Silence - Elizabeth Kerner
The Green Rider - Kristen Britain
Dragon Flight - Anne McCaffery
These Old Shades - Georgette Heyer
The Soul of a Dragon - Jianre Moriankomer . . .

Ok, ok. I know I'm getting ahead of myself with that last one. sweatdrop

@ KittenFreak: Wow, you're into classics and Mystery, aren't you? eek ((Mary Higgins Clark . . . where have I heard that? sweatdrop )) Have you read Dorothy Gilman? She wrote the Mrs. Pollifax stuff . . . starting with The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax. 3nodding

DragonLance is pretty good, my husband is reading those. There's also Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow by Orson Scott Card. She's also written a lot of other stuff that I'd really like to get my hands on, sci-fi as well as a lot of church stuff. I think he wrote a series about the women in the church, but it's been so long since I went to a church bookstore, I'm not sure. He writes really well though. There's also the children's classic - the Chronicles of Narnia. I never actually finished reading them, but they were very well written, and interesting to boot. Don't forget other stories like Matilda by Roald Dahl (he also right Witches and the BFG, both of which are excellent) .. read everything by him. It's good, and it's a nice change of pace from anything else you've probably read.

eek Wow! Thank you all! *starts scribbling down book names* I read super fast however and I have a list of about 15ish that I haven't read yet and that'll last me...about 3 weeks at the most.... xd So keep posting. BTW- I LOVE Tamora Pierce!!!! I completely recommend the Song of the Lioness Series as well as The Immortals. The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer is quite enjoyable too...as well as his other books, there are a few but I only remember two The Supernaturalists and The Wish List.

The Immortals is the best seris by Tamora Pierce, except i didn't like how book four (The Realms of the Gods) ended. the Circle of Magic seris is also good but don't bother reading Briar's Book, it's boring.
