Gaius looked down at the bandages Sophie was holding and stared blankly before his brain clicked back on. "Oh! Right! Sorry about that. Here, hold out your arm..."

Taking the bandages in hand, Gaius quickly and deftly wrapped up her arm, having had plenty of practice with first aid while on the job. "How is that? Not too tight?" The arm tended to, Gaius turned to her other injuries. They were cleaned, but some would be troublesome to wrap, namely the ones on her torso. He blushed. "Er, I think you'll have to tend to some of these later..."

Looking back up at her face, he examined her cheek with concern. It was starting to swell around the discoloration. "How does your face feel, Sophie? Do you have any ice in your freezer?"

Sophie watched quietly as Gaius tended to her arm: he certainly knew what he was doing. In all truth, Sophie didn't know why she had brought medical supplies other than her medication: she couldn't tend to a wound, and blood other than her own made her feel queasy. Noticing the sensitive areas Gaius wouldn't be bandaging for obvious reasons, she nodded meekly: shyness to the touch in males was a good thing.

On the question of her face, she instinctively raised a hand to touch the cheek in question--and regretted it the moment she did. She winced, then stood, walking to her fridge and opening it. After a moment of searching, she began to laugh, holding up the only thing left in her freezer: frozen fish nuggets. "I think we might need to go to the cafe if we want ice...but it's fine. I'll see if there's anything cold in the fridge." Quickly shoving away the fish nuggets, she opened the refridgerator, and hummed some form of victory song as she lifted up a chilled Sprite can. "This'll work better than fish," she admitted, pressing the object gently against her cheek.

"Oh, I forgot to ask...you want one?"

Gaius chuckled nodding his head at the offer. "Actually, you'd be surprised how well fish works... but what really helps is a bag of frozen peas or corn! I always kept some around for bruises and muscle pains."

He took the can she offered, popping it open and taking a gulp.

"So, uh..." A nervous smile tugged at his mouth. "You'll be okay, right? If I start changing..." There was a note of teasing in his voice as he continued. "I mean, it's okay if you run screaming, it'd just be nice to know beforehand so I won't feel put-down."

Sophie sat down once more on the couch, wondering how ridiculous she must look, having a soda pushed on her face and all. Her smile nearly faded, though, as Gaius brought up the topic of which she stressed. Wiping the hair from her face, she sighed, then nodded.

"I promise I won't scream or anything as long as you don't try to scare me on purpose, and as long as you promise not to scream when I start to change into...well, whatever the hell it is the Professor sees me as."

Of course, that line got her thinking...what if she turned into a predator? Then what??? But, other ideas shook the paranoia from her head, and she laughed. "Knowing my luck, it's gonna end up being that thing that looks like a rock but is actually coral. 'Hi, I'm Sophie! The living rock.'" She mimed a wave, then laughed again.

He laughed, amused by the mental image. "Well, wouldn't matter when you randomly fell asleep, I suppose!"

Taking another sip of his soda, he leaned back and looked her over with a teasing-scrutinous air. "Hmm... I don't see you as a rock. I think something cute, like a hamster! With a little wiggling nose and whiskers!"

He was glad she seemed to be recovering from the incident. Man, what would have happened if he hadn't found her, and she had been left alone in her state? Leaning over, he patted her gently on her shoulder and smiled that friendly smile of his. "You know you can always come to me when you need help, yeah? Just buzz my duplex number and yell 'Hey lunk-head!'"

"A hamster???"

Sophie would've spit out anything she had been drinking at the moment, and was relieved she had not chosen to open her sprite/ice pack. She laughed, shaking her head: "I dunno about that...I couldn't see myself eating woodchips. Paper I've done before, but wood...yick."

She smiled as he rested a hand on her shoulder, her fears (and just about every other tangible thought) slipping away. Every thread of her that had absorbed any cheesy romance book told her to go for it, a whole cheering squad in her mind, but something more important seemed to come up. "Uhm, what's your duplex number again? I think I forgot it..." With an innocent laugh, she rubbed the back of her head with her free hand, putting the sprite/ice pack on the floor. "Or, y'know...we could call Marshall and the rest of them and do some kinda co-ed sleepover...I don't think I'd be scared with a bunch of people around..."

"Oh, wait, I said Marshall. Nevermind. I'd be scared."

Gaius thought of the things Marshall would say if he found his 'big brother' had been alone in Sophie's appartment and had been... touching her! He cringed. The teasing would never cease!

"I think I'd rather not. Er, see them that is. None of us would get any sleep!"

He scratched the back of his neck, looking away. "I can, uh, stay until you fall asleep, if you like? And we can lock the door. No one will get in then..." He blushed slightly, looking down at her knees. "I'll leave afterwards... I don't want you feeling... vulnerable. I'm not that kind of guy."

"Don't worry, I was just kidding. We couldn't fit everyone in on the floor."

Smiling, she stood up, walking towards her dresser. Her good jacket was pretty much ruined of course, so for the moment she pulled out a button-up pajama top and just slipped it on. Having worn her old one so much, she felt odd without the sleeves. "I think I'll be fine if I just lock the door. You don't have to stay." Looking up with a grin, she haphazardly lifted a stuffed animal, squeezing it tightly.

"But, you know, thanks for helping me out. I don't think I would've managed getting any bandages on by myself." She then opened the door, if he was ready to go. "And if I do get scared, I can just call random numbers until I get yours. There's only so many duplexes."

He laughed, faking a pout. "But what if I'm scared?" Grinning, he got to his feet, figuring it was probably for the best to let her have some personal time. Besides, any longer and he was sure his face would become permanently pink. At least she seemed to have recovered well enough. A good sleep would serve her best.

"Hey, you know me. I'm Mr. Fixit, I'm always glad to help. Even if I'm the one who made the mess in the first place!"

He moved towards the door, but paused in front of her and held his arms open with a friendly grin. "One more for the road?"

She grinned, shaking her head: she could just imagine seeing Gaius being scared as ever, tucked into a corner somewhere. She crossed her arms, her feet shuffling in a slow walk as they both came to the door. She didn't really want him to go, but it was likely for the best, for the both of them. Upon being asked for a hug, she gladly obliged, even though being a tad bit shorter only allowed him to snuggle against his chest.

"See you tomorrow, Gaius."

The hug was quick, but warm. Gaius ruffled her hair before letting her go, grinning down at her. "You take care, alright? I'll see you around!"

With a wave, he departed from the duplex, walking away a bit before glancing over his shoulder to see her close the door. He stood for a moment, hands tucked into his pockets, alone with his thoughts beneath the darkening sky. Zach... The name echoed through his mind, recalling the images of the cuts on Sophie's arm, the bruise... Gaius glowered. The initial rage had long since cooled, but he could not let such a thing pass. He wasn't about to run over and pop Zach in the face, not now that Gaius could think straight, but he was going to make it clear that such behavior was intollerable, even from a change.

A new purpose in mind, Gaius walked off into the night, intent on finishing what he deemed his 'mission'.
