Lol, I thought about the whole connection between Riku and Axel when I first played through the game. It's really a pity they look nothing alike. I think Riku would make a great other for Axel. :3

I thought Axel's name might be Alex...maybe they didn't feel like adding another X, and also some of their names, such as Xigbar's, don't add up to their original names...
