Old Richard by far!! When he was first introduced I loved him and was ready to kick Jean-Claude to the curb! But now new Richard just pisses me off!!! He needs to let go of his freakin "high morals" and s**t. I mean having morals is great, but his stupid "ideals" are causing problems for everyone.

This might sound kind of reatrded but I liked Richard when he was a wuss. In the Killing Dance, he turned into a jerk. It was like all the power went to his head. I don't like him very much now. >_<

I like how he's developed as a character. He's not that solid stone he was in the beginning. He's adapting, and that's a good quality to have. Yes, he wasn't like that for most of the series, but he's like that now, and that's what counts. He's learning what he wants instead of pining over what's lost.
New Richard ftw.

I disliked him from the beginning. I can agree that he is well-developed, but he seems too far behind and far too aggressive to earn my respect as a character. He's pretty messed up, and his idealistic views of morality constantly stand in the way of logic. That kind of defeats the purpose of doing the right thing - how can you maturely do right when you can't see past your own expectations?

I'm really not sure what to say. I liked the old Richard and hated him. He was so sweet but his personal hang ups seemed to get in the way of everything. I still like and hate Richard now. As a character hes developing and trying to move past some of the old hang ups but hes also either developing new ones or becoming more upset about some of the old ones at the same time. Through out the series there have been times when I loved Richard and times when I wanted to just smack some sense into him.

i thought richard was an ok character at first... him and anita seemed to get along fine... *sigh* i was glad when it didnt work out so she could hook up with jean claude but at the same time it was kinda sad for her because she has to deal with all this drama with him... but at the same time anita is starting to act the same why in some of the recent books altho she doesnt hate herself she is still on her high morals even if she is sleeping with how many guys to feed her ardeur... i kinda miss the old anita too when she was kinda exclusive before everything went to hell in a basket... but oh well i hope the next book has some actual crime fighting in it...

I never liked Richard first just because I preferred Jean Claude and Richard was such a goody goody it made me sick. The he morphed into what he is now and just starts too much crap that is going to get people killed. His attitude is going to get him killed off or sent to a psych ward since LKH doesnt want to kill him but eventually she is going to have to make the desicion.

He's really a pain in the butt kind of character. It's a good change because he's not all.."I'm not a werewolf"-he's embracing his animalistic side but the way he's doing it? Being a constant mope and the perfect victim? Way too much, I would've have slapped him silly if he was my man. I thought women were supposed to be the drama fanatics!

I once read a fanfic where Anita realized that Richard had been under a spell and that was why he was acting like such a p***k all the time.
It was an interesting concept, I only wish it were true.
I never liked Richard from the start, old or new he just does NOTHING for me.
I'd rather see another were-animal in his place in the triumverate but other than Jason I'm not keen on many of the wolves.
I forget, does it have to be a wolf because that is JC's animal to call?

Yeah, it has to be Richard in the triumvirate.
Anyways, I'd rahter us ahve the new richard, except i want him to figure out Anita's not going for the picket fence and Hes a werewolf, he kills, he eats flesh, hes a Monster king and hangs with other monsters.
Richard never fully embraced the Werewolf, which has made him weaker rahter thans tronger. and his hatred of Jean Claude then his anger at Anita only makes things worse.
The old richard was still more a punk than anyone else because he whined and threw fits over monster stuff. Atleast the new richard has come furhter along in the all manner of monster issues.

I don't think Richard has truly evolved. I think he's acting the way he THINKS people think he should act. I feel like he's gone to the other extreme and that isn't right either.
I think he's pretty much the same underneath when nobody is watching and when they watch he over-acts the part and it's just as fake.
Richard is based on Laurell's ex-husband and she's said before that she didn't understand her ex and that is why she can't understand Richard either.
It makes sense.

I started out with love for Richard and then I started to dislike him. I hated the whiny attitude and general "woe is me" mentality he picked up. The other day I decided I like him again. Let me tell you why..
In my opinion Richard is the only real main character left. He's not by any means perfect and responds to weird situations the way "normal" people would. He has trouble accepting himself and dealing with radical change in his life. He's jealous, he can be selfish and sometimes he's just an a**. He's ******** up, ladies and gentlemen. He's human.
I think it's funny Anita spends so much time hating him. She's worst than he is. Richard is always crippling the triumvirate meanwhile she's crippling the lives of everyone around her. It's all fun and good when her pleasure is being fulfilled but soon as someone else shows an interest in themself or someone other than her she freaks. The more I read of Danse Macabre the more I want to shake her.

i think the old and new richard are the same its more like the new richard has finally figured out his promblems and would be trying to work on them. at least he isnt in so much denial as he was before. he just needs a lot of help and not be so angry with things he cant control its like he sees the things he is trying to deny in other people in anitas life and hates them for it because he cant handle his issues which is annoying!!!!!
