WickedElphie [ Amputated Freckle ] And the "theater people" had the worst voices in the whole thing I think they shoudl go see a real musical before trying to make one You obviously didn't go to my high school. Lol. We had three people that could sing and everyone else was tone deaf, but they all think they are amazing, so they audition anyway, and they end up in the show cus my high school had a "turn no one away" policy. D; That sucks Well, my highschool is pretty big on the music stuff Our choral director and person-in-charge-of-musicals is one of Arizona's top three music "big-wigs," so a lot of us come here for the good music n stuff

I had many problems with this movie:
Disney did as they always do, they played on stereotypes and it annoys the hell out of me when they do. The Drama Teacher made me want to cringe because 99.9% of drama teachers are nothing like that snotty one.
The songs were terrible.
I felt bad for the two "drama kids" because they worked really hard and then some jocky upstart comes along.
its just....*shakes head*
It just gave a very bad, filtered, and almost completely false look at what it is to be involved in theatre in high school. (at mine anyway)

although the songs were crap, they were chatchy. And they really only had like four sterotypes, disney could have done better then that.

On the bright side, at least it might get the younger generation interested in musical theatre. 3nodding

I thought it was okay, but not good. Not at all. It was cheesy and stuff, but half of the musicals I've done are. Especially The Music Man. Never going to do that again.
Also, some of my friends saw a stage version at Internetional Festival this summer, and although they wanted to hate it, they had a really good cast.

And for the next show, my mom is thinking of getting the rights to the stage play of Highschool Musical
I was about ready to throttle her when she suggested it

For me, it was one of those movies that was so stupid, you had to enjoy it. xd It's kind of like From Justin to Kelly. There's no actual theatrical merit in it. It's just fun if you want a good laugh.

I actually think Disney did a really good thing with this movie... First of all, compared to most movies they make now days it is really good... It's actually wholesome and not full of sex/drugs/violence/swearing... Also, I thought the music was pretty good. Besides the very last song, it wasn't terribly repetitious. It was flashy, and had well thought out lyrics for the most part, just like broadway music should have. Also, I don't think it is fair to compare it to broadway because it is by no means supposed to beat broadway or be like it, it is just disney making the same kind of movie they always make! Last but not least, besides the main guy, everyone in the movie did there own singing, and for that I give them credit. Also The two main girls have been on broadway, they were children in Les Miserables and the main guythat was the snobby chicks sister was in The Lion King on broadway when he was little too..

My little brother keeps singing the songs around me. So I play the complete symphonic recording to Les Miserables in my room, and I over power him. Little rat b*****d....

|If you need me|
The next person I know who tells me that High School Musical is the best musical/movie/whatever that has been created shall be punjabbed! mad The only thing I liked was Status Quo, which had a decent beat and good choreography. My friends are obsessed with it; sadly, I love them too much to b***h-slap them.
And I have to say, Disney is trying too hard to appeal to the teenage demographic while trying to maintain a squeaky-clean image. Can't they go back to the days of Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast?

^Nope. They've shut down the 2D animation department and feel that musicals "don't appeal" to the age demographic that would be watching. "High School Musical" was (I'm fairly certain) a reaction to the popularity of recent musical-movies (read: RENT) among tweens.

Can you imagine that movie being turned into a Broadway musical?
