Riku got the strange impression that Pride was almost... nervous at the idea of approaching the Emperor.
Well that's just silly.
"The reason to dwell is a four letter word spelled P A I N, thank you very much." Riku stuffed his hands into his pockets, fingers curling immediately around the blindfold in his right pocket. He was tempted to pull it out, even to put it on, but he had the odd sensation that it would be almost disrespectful to face the Emperor that way.
"Who is this guy anyway? Is he all powerful or what? Omniscient? Something? What makes him so amazing that he can control seven of the most powerful Heartless?"

Pain? Hardly. The Prince was simply afraid of the darkness, at least as far as Pride could see. Xehanort’s Heartless was nothing… minuscule… he was a lost and forgotten cause. He had decided he wanted Kingdom Hearts and that was his downfall. A being of his stature could never take Kingdom Hearts.
Pride suddenly frowned as Riku began speaking for the Emperor. Did he truly not believe in his power? Perhaps the Prince would merely have to wait to see the Emperor’s power at it’s fullest.
But he did, however decide to answer Riku’s question for a man now stood behind him. The same eloquence… the same majesty. Did the Prince truly not sense his presence? Perhaps it was because the Emperor had arrived unannounced and silently.
“That is because he is the King of Kingdom Hearts. He is the superior and our master.”

Riku's mouth dropped open. The king of Kingdom Hearts... there WAS such a thing? Odd... "If he's the king... why do you keep calling me the prince...?"
And then... the eerie sensation he was being watched. His face paled two or three shades as he turned slowly around to look into the eyes of the most regal man he'd ever seen.
Under ordinary circumstances, when a man comes into contact with a king, he might bow his head, or fall to his knees and cry something along the lines of "Your majesty." Riku did none of these things.
"...hoshit."

And here before the Prince stood the King. The pressure in the room was now stifling, even for Pride, who was the mere essence of darkness. Out of respect, the Heartless kept his silence. He did not dare utter a word before the Emperor. It was simply not his place. He was tempted to answer the Prince’s question but feared the consequences of his speaking out of place even more.
The golden eyes of the King flicked over at Pride before they returned to Riku. The frown on his face eased into an expressionless look. Then he spoke with the same sweet yet cruel voice.
“Welcome to Kingdom Hearts, Prince of Darkness…” the Emperor suddenly trailed off. His brow suddenly furrowed and anger flashed through his eyes as he looked back at Pride. “I told you to only bring him when he was ready, Pride.” His very tone was able to make the second strongest of all Heartless cringe.
“Forgive me, Emperor, but if I—“
A hand shot up, interrupting Pride’s explanation. “I will speak with you later, Pride.” The Heartless only nodded in agreement and kept his silence. The King looked back at Riku once again.
“Your heart is still not truly ready to be rid of the darkness. You have yet to let go of the past. You cling to them more than anything else.
“For instance… you still have the blindfold in your pocket that you hold so dearly.”

Riku, famous (or perhaps infamous) for always having a crack to make, was finding words were failing him for perhaps the first time in his life. He gaped at the King, shocked that not only did he know the blindfold was in his pocket, but part of the reason he kept it, even now.
He gave his brain a mental kick, trying to reposition his thought process, and remembered why he was here.
"What do you want from me? You can't honestly think I'll believe that you would help me for nothing. Just what is the price for your offer?"
He was slightly scared by Pride's own evident terror, but if he couldn't do this, what was the point of bothering?

Sloth was lucky. He always knew when to leave and when to stick around. He was able to pass the Emperor’s anger for the time being but surely he would be called back, wouldn’t he?
Pride could do nothing but sit back and watch the events unfold between the Emperor and the Prince. It was not his place to interfere and he would not do so.
The King’s face eased once again, his brief anger with Pride subsiding. His feminine features almost reached the point of smiling but the true mystery was deciding whether or not he was truly happy. Impassively, he continued.
“You are the same as always, it seems. I never said I had a price for my offer but I can make you one if you’d like.”
The King held out a hand. “Perhaps you would like to rid yourself of the blindfold before we continue. There is no reason to keep it if you heart is truly strong. I shall accept it as payment on your behalf.”

Riku blinked. "Th-that's it? All you want is the blindfold and you'll get rid of-- my curse?"
Well damn! That wasn't a price at all! He pulled the blindfold out of his pocket, and started to take a step toward the King.
Wait.
"What's the catch?" he asked, turning partially away from him as though he was preparing to run away. "What else is there? What aren't you telling me?"

The King did not feel he had to answer any of Riku’s questions. They were all… beneath him. He answered to no one but himself and he would hold to that philosophy. With a simple hand motion, the King once again insisted that Riku relinquish the blindfold. A fair hand received the cloth welcomingly and delicate fingers gently tightened around it.
“Thank you for coming, Prince.” Another hand began to rise and a dark aura began to form around it. Despite all logic, it seemed that darkness radiated from the King’s hand. Suddenly, the hand shot forward and through Riku’s chest, passing harmlessly through cloth, flesh, and bone… until it made contact with a powerful object. The hand forced this object out through the teenager’s back. Glowing with an almost blinding light, the object from Riku’s chest… his heart… slowly climbed to the ceiling and passed through it without a trace.
But Riku’s heart was not the only thing that was forced out. A dark, shadow-like figure fell to the ground behind Riku. Slowly, color and form came to the figure as it rose.
The King did not bat an eye or even bother to look at Riku as he fell backwards, plummeting to the ground. Instead he beamed at this new person before him who stood just as tall and proud.
“And I welcome you, Xeryim, the Prince of the Heartless.”

Riku slammed into the floor, seeing vaguely a purplish glowing object drifing toward the ceiling... that was odd...
Oh my god...
He looked up into Xeryim's face, into cold eyes that ignored him, vainly trying to push himself up to lean on his elbows.
"I... I trusted you," he gasped, looking at the King as a chilling emptiness spread through his body. Was this what the Nobodies had felt like all the time? No wonder they had been so desperate to get their hearts back. He felt... cold.
And anger. Xemnas had said he felt nothing at all. How was it he still felt emotions?
"What have you done to me?"

So that was his plan was all along, wasn’t it? Pride had an inkling that the Emperor was up to but, until this point, he only ever fully confided with Sloth, that is if he fully confided with anyone at all. For all he knew, Sloth did not know the Emperor planned to take the boy’s heart, the one that battled and joined the forces of darkness, to create yet another Heartless. And this Heartless… Xeryim… he was probably more powerful than all of the six combined.
Pride knew that he would have to fear the Prince, Xeryim, as he did the Emperor.
These questions were both annoying and stifling. The King merely stepped around Riku without a glance and made his way to the newly born Heartless… the prize of his efforts… the Prince. The boy that lay on the floor was now nothing to him. He had gotten what he sought and that was all that matters.
His hand rested on the shoulder of Riku’s Heartless. “Now come, Xeryim. We have much to speak about.” With that, he lead the Prince out of the room but stopped only for a few moments to call out into the room on the right.
“Sloth, take care of the mess in here. I don’t want to see it when I return.”
And thus, King and Prince were gone.

He had seen it all. Everything. Sloth was not one to allow anyone to pull something over him, even if it was the King himself. So he had watched from the shadows, eyes glinting with a mixture of things. He wouldn't necessarily call them emotions, but it was a start. This new Princeling was going to be annoying. The Heartless could tell.
As the King and his newly crowned Prince walked by, Sloth sneered, arms crossed, at this Xeryim character. One would not be thrown out of his seat by this kid. Stepping out of the swirling darkness, he ignored Pride and walked straight to Riku, who was left behind looking very angry and very confused.
"Lessgo." He drawled lazily, taking the teen by the arm and starting to lead him towards the containment chambers. Sloth almost felt bad for the kid, because he still had his life ahead of him. Well, maybe not so much anymore.
Now he was just another "casualty" to add to the list.

"Wh-what?" He pulled weakly against Sloth's grip on his arm, scrabbling for a foothold to stop himself from being dragged away. "No--hey!" He turned, wheeling around slightly against Sloth's hold and looking around the room for anything to help him.
"Pride! PRIDE! Help me- you can't let them- You have to help me!" As Sloth rounded the corner of the table he threw his arm out as far as he could reach and snagged the back of one of the seven chairs, fingers clutching desperately for a solid enough grip that he could stall Sloth's seemingly emotionless march.

Pride merely observed everything as it occurred. The Emperor and the Prince left through the same door he and the boy had previously come through. Xeryim… what was going to happen now that he was around? Surely he was more than a replacement for Greed…
"Pride! PRIDE! Help me- you can't let them- You have to help me!"
The Heartless frowned and merely glowered at the boy. He was so noisy. What did he expect Pride to do? Disobey the Emperor’s wishes and rescue him?
“Tch.” The Heartless turned his head, refusing to look at Riku. He honestly could not tell how he felt. He didn’t exactly feel sympathy for him but he was not overzealous that he was being locked away. Nevertheless, he continued speaking. “I suggest you be quiet, boy, and do as you’re told.”
Rising to his feet, Pride made his way out through a doorway opposite where Riku was being taken away. “I’ll be going to rest, Sloth.” He explained as he disappeared behind another curtain draped over the doorway.

Boy?
"I thought I could trust you, I thought you were my friend!" He swiped vainly in Pride's direction, surrendering his grip on the chair as the Heartless vanished from the room.
"But..." He quit fighting, slumping as close to the ground as he could with Sloth holding his other arm. "N-no... This can't be happening... THIS CAN'T BE IT!" he screamed, before letting Sloth drag him away. He found he didn't really care what happened anymore.

If Sloth had a heart to speak of, he was pretty sure he would sympathize with the young, broken down teenager. However, all he felt was a sort of numbness towards the silver-haired boy's display. Glaring in the direction in which Pride exited, the Heartless pulled Riku to his feet, grip lessened. He led on in silence, focused on getting out of earshot. The robed Heartless turned a corner, eyes squinting against the sudden white that filled his vision. They were close to the containment chambers. After a few long strides and some turns later, Sloth stopped short of the cell he was to deposit Riku into. Turning his head to look at the boy, he narrowed his eyes, face placid but still questioning.
"....Why'd you do it?"
