Arrival

Cody was feeling both axious and excited. Not so long ago he had said goodbye to his parents, swarmed with kisses and advices, leaving the family confort to a world of unsure hope. On the other hand, he was on a helicopter for the first time

Despite all he could see was the great mass of water, his face was glued to the window. He could see the glitter made from the ripples rush as they travelled, but no dolphins or whales as he hoped

The trip was a long one, especially to a young boy. But eventually the island came into view, lifting up from a fog.

When the helicopter finally landed, there was a Jeep off the helicopter pad, a woman in a labcaot waiting in the drivers seat. She pulled her brown curly hair into a ponytail to save it from the blades of the rotors and slowly made her way out of the car as James, the pilot, opened the door. She had a b it of trouble getting out of the vehicle, and leaned heavily on a cane as she hobbled up to meet the boy.

"Hi there, Cody!" she said with a smile. "My name's Dr. Aubrey Lockheart, but you can call me Aubrey, okay?"

As he saw the island between the mist, Cody's excitement grew. It seemed like one of those pictures of mystic isles, with dragons and pirate treasures. He could hardly believe he was going to live there for the next six months

Once passed the turbulence of the helicopter landing, which forced Cody to stay in his seat despite him wanting to watch the whole thing out the window, he grabed the folder his parents had entrusted him and made his way out to the jungle air

"Hi" he looked at the lady with a bit of mistrust. It was not often to see a injured doctor receiving a patient. But he brushed it off and smiled back "Okay Aubrey"

James put Cody's things in the Jeep an d she held open the door for him. "Welcome to the Island, Cody. We're going to make you better here." Aubrey made her way back into the Jeep. "You know less than a week ago I was stuck in a wheelchair because of an accident, now I'm already getting better."

Again Cody was facing a new experience. Never before he had been on a jeep, nor he had been allowed to ride on the front

"Really? What happened? Broke a leg?" only too late he realised he was asking too many questions again. He couldn't help being curious sometimes

Aubrey began to take the path through the thick forest towards the labs main facility. "Had an accident," she said with a nod. "Got a really nasty cut across my tummy."

She didn't want to go into grisly details. Last thing she wanted to do was tell this little kid that theere were monsters on the island.

After a bit, the thick jungles cleared and the glass-fronted main lobby of Feral Labs came into view. "But I'm getting better every day. We can do some amazing things here." Aubrey once again, slowly made her way out of the Jeep and led Cody into the lobby. Once in the elevator, Aubrey opened his file. "Cody..do you know why you're here?"

Cody followed Aubrey obediently, trying to absorve every bit of his surroundings as she told him the reasons of her injury. What impressed him most was the voice comanded elevator

Her question snapped him back to reality though "Yes. To try an experimental treatment to cure my MS" he subconsciously rubbed his bandaged arm as he spoke

Aubrey looked down at the boy and nodded. "Its a tricky disease, and its no fair young people like you have to get it," she said, rustling his hair gently. "Always remember that, Cody. MS kills. We aren't going to let you die."

Aubrey was confident they could. Determined. Yes... and she would make sure Cody always knew that they saved him.

The elevator's door slid open to reveal a cold, sterile lab. With a hand on his shoulder, she led him and helped him sit up on the exam table. "I have to give you a shot, okay?"

Cody started flatning his hair. He never liked people always wanting to mess with it
At Aubrey's determination he felt confident that he was going to get cured. Up until now it was just a hope, a wishing for it to happen since none of the doctors he met actually believed it would be possible. Now it seemed certain

"Thank you"

He followed the nice doctor and sat as ordered. The placed seemed awfully cold, but it was really interesting all the things it held

"Oh, wait!" Cody started unraveling the bandaged on his left arm, revealing the top of a catheter. Since he was forced to have regular injections ever since he found out he had MS, this little device saved him the horrors of watching the needle constantly penetrating his skin... and leaving his arm with a sieve texture

Aubrey pulled the serum out from the cabinet, which opened by pressing her thumb to a reader pad. Nothing in the lab had handles of any kind it seemed...everything seemed almost automated.

She walked over to the boy, her eyes filled with conflicting emotion. She seemed confident, forcing a smile and giving him hope. But there was something else behind her eyes. Almost...guilt or sadness. But Aubrey doubted the young boy would catch it. At least...she hoped he wouldn't.

She injected the dark blue serum into his catheter with a reassuming squeeze of his arm.

After a pause, "Have you ever seen Disney's Robin Hood?" she asked in a chipper voice. "Or Bedknobs and Broomsticks."

Cody wispered cool when he saw the cabinet open by itself. He only had seen that technology on movies and comic books

He did catch Aubrey's conflicting emotions, but though it was her injury bothering her
What did really catch his attention however was the dark coloured serum. I looked weird as it traveled down his catheter and disapeared between te bandages and into his body. He felt it penetrating, but that sensation wasn't new

"Only Robin Hood. But I like the Incredibles better. Or Nightmare before Christmas"

Aubrey kept her sad smile and she nodded. "I liked those movies, too." she said, disposing of the needle. "But...the reason I asked is because of the people in it. You know how in Robin Hood...all the people lookedlike animals? But they still walked and wore clothes and stuff?"

Cody started hidding his catheter back into the bandages, carefully keeping the tip well protected

"Yeah, they're called anthros right?"

Aubrey looked up, surprised he knew the word. "Uh-huh."

She helped him down off te table. "You ever seen a real one?"
