TempestRising Briar took the parchment and considered it thoughtfully, Tris came over to have a look.
"We have never known lands or creatures such as these." Tris said finally after evaluating the parchment for several minutes. "You will not find what you seek here."
Briar nodded after a moment. "But if I were a dragon, I'd head toward the fae realms. The faes can be dreadfully annoying but when it comes to finding things that were lost they are cleverer than most." The sly smile that had shown itself when he had first met her re-asserted itself. "Come on Claire, we can look for your dragon along the way to find a cure. Besides, I need someone to keep me company besides coppercurls." Tris walked off in a huff and stood by the edge of the path through the forest. "Time to go loverboy!" she said with annoyance as she handed the parchment back to Claire. "Don't believe a word her says" she whispered to Claire "He's a thieving dog if I've ever seen one."
"Like you've seen so many in your life-time oh duchess of my soul!" Briar retorted. "Come on Claire." he said softly pulling her hand away from the dagger and meeting her blue and red eyes with his gray-green ones. "Come with us, I promise you we'll do all that we can for your dragon." "I'll come, but I have another request." Claire said, her eyes darting back and forth. "Would it be alright if I brought along a little friend of mine? She'll die if I leave her." Claire said opening a pack lined with hot coals. She reached in and pulled out a baby dragon. Her wings were not yet strong enough to fly, that was evident. But the dragons scales was what caught Briar and Triss's attention. The dragon's scales were clear, and you could see everything inside the dragon, it's heart beating, it's tiny lungs working fast. Claire held the dragon close to her chest and then placed her back in the bag. "She hatched just minutes after Arya was lost to me. She's arya's only fledgling." claire said patting the bag. after a moment of silence from Triss and Vriar she spoke again, much softer, so soft that Briar and Triss had to strain to hear her. "I made a promise to Arya that I'd do everything in my power to keep this dragonling safe if anything ever happend to her and I'll be damned if I break that promise. I'm going to go get some food. I'll return in a few hours. go ahead and start traveling, I'll find you. Trust me...i'll find you." claire said creating an eerie mood around the camp before walking off disappearing between the trees.

KineoTorgunamaru But the dragons scales was what caught Briar and Triss's attention. ooc: Be careful of Godmoding You can say that the scales shone brightly, but you can't say what catches my characters attention. bic: Tris' eyes were riveted upon the hatchling. She felt that its scales sung in the sunlight filtering through the leafy foliage. Something flashed across Briar's eyes. It might have been surprise, or even the flicker of lost memory, but the emotion faded too quickly to be sure. "A dragon hatchling would surely bless our trip." he said with a smile. "You are full of surprises Dragonrider Claire. This trip might be fun after all." He walked down to meet Tris by the path. "I fear a few hours will be too long for me to be apart from you Lady Claire." he said, exaggerated romance dripping from his voice. "Perhaps we could..." He broke off when Tris gave him a look that would have peeled paint. "...Until later Claire" Tris said firmly. Then she turned and marched her brother up the path.

And I'm sorry for that, I'm used to writing books where I'm in control of everything, lol! sweatdrop rply to bic: Claire rolled her eyes, leaving the camp in a hurry. It was only a few moments before the hatchling spoke. "Why did you show me to them? I'm not some little zoo animal you know!" The hatchling squeaked angrily. Claire smiled and calmed the girl with her soothing spell. "I just wanted to make sure they knew about you young one, now sleep darling. Aunty Claire's going to get you some food." Claire said patting the bag. An agitated growling could be heard but soon the growls were snores. Claire didn't have to walk far. She had caught a little fawn within minutes of the hatchling's outburst. Using her super smell, Claire had found Briar and Triss in seconds. Seeing that they were deep in conversation she slinked back off into the forest, decidng that a few more hours wouldn't hurt. After the sun had began to paint the sky a deep red, Claire had to wait a few minutes until the breeze died down so she could find her company. They had traveled much ground. Allowing her feet to take her as fast as they willed Claire transported the three deer (she had found two more while wandering) to the camp site.

The first thing that Vlad thought of when he came to was Loiosh. However, his familiar was fine, perched on a nearby tree. He really hated using Morrolan's windows to travel. Ah well, that'd be the last time he'd have to do so, wasn't it? A brief wave of homesickness overcame him as he sat up, only to be qualmed by Loiosh's familiar weight on his shoulder.
How long was I out?
Not long. Maybe two or three hours.
Okay, chum. You want to look around?
Already did, boss. Seems we're not alone out here, but they don't seem hostile.
Vlad nodded. From Loiosh, he got a clear picture of his new friends, if he was lucky. If he was unlucky, they'd rob him and leave him for dead. "Hello? Anyone there?" He called. Now was no time to be cautious, besides, he had Lady Teldra, his dagger, if anyone got too unfriendly. He walked toward the general direction Loiosh had given him. He had his hands in the air to show he was not actually holding a weapon (you couldn't actually call him unarmed with all the little goodies he had tucked away on his person) and he'd made Loiosh ride under his cloak. The reptile (looking like a dragon the size of a housecat) tended to put some people off.

Maybe you can fill me in on what kind of a place this is." Vlad had found it useful in the past to be cheerful and good humored when dealing with the unknown. If he could get her talking, he might get a clear picture of the kind of place this was, and then maybe he'd find out why Morrolan had sent him here.

"Not important anyways, Where are you headed travelor? If you need a place to stay I'm sure the people I'm travelling with wouldn't mind the company." Claire asked fingering the tip of an arrow.

"Fenarian actually, not that that means much here. Short for Vladimir."
You sure you want to give out your name like that, boss

His psionic communication with his familiar was interrupted by what seemed to be a mind-probe. How rude; he'd killed for less. Insticntively, he let a dagger fall into his right hand. It was better not to attack the first person he met. For all he knew, she was Empress here.
"You know, it's really rude to mind-probe someone without permission. Please, don't do it again. And, I do believe I'll travel with you and your people awhile. Last came the tail, a long whip-like thing making his body length slightly shorter than its wingspan."This is Loiosh, on my world he's known as a jhereg." Loiosh hissed. He'd always had a flare for the dramatic.

Shut up Loiosh Claire puts a surprised look on her face. "I'm sorry but I was merely searching for anything that would cause harm to me and my fellow travelors later on. And that dagger will not be needed." Claire said with a wave of her hand. She then turned to Loiosh and started speaking to him fluently in Jhereg. "Oh, and don't try anything or i will do more than probe your mind Vladmir." Claire added in plain english after she was done talking to Loiosh. She unsheathed her longsword and began travelling in the direction of the camp and they were there in no time. "Tris, Briar, this is..." Claire began but noticed the two were sound asleep. She put a finger to her mouth and soundlessly sheathed her sword. Going over to one of the deer, she skinned one of it's legs and began fixing a very delicious smelling stew.

Okay, chum, I'll start with you. By the way, what did she say to you?
Very funny, boss. I'm laughing my scales off.It worried Vlad that Loiosh wouldn't answer him about what she said, but then, maybe she'd put an enchantment on him, or something. He didn't like the idea of someone screwing with his familiar. "Okay, what did you do to him?" He asked, not caring one bit if he woke her companions up. His tone wasn't particularly unfriendly, but it wasn't flowers and chocolate either. Her stew, however, did smell pretty good. The animal was unfamiliar, but that didn't bother him. He hadn't eaten since yesterday.

"I merely spoke to him about you. I made fun of your hair, it's quite odd looking to me. I did nothing to him, I merely spoke to him in his native tongue. Like any sensible person would do." Claire said leaning against a tree and loudly sharpening her blade. She obviously didn't trust these fellows just yet. He acts like I killed his brother or something. Stupid outsider. this wood is filled with God knows what and I'm the bad guy? ha! Claire thought sheathing her longsword once more and enjoying a bowl of stew. there was a loud squeak from her bag and she remembered the hatchling. "My dear friend I'm so sorry, here, eat up. you'll need your strength." Claire said setting the hatchling on the ground. It growled at the newcomers and Claire growled back at her. "Yasu, kitania lirasten!" Claire said in Elven to the dragon. the dragon hatchling lowered it's head and looked up at Vlad and Loiosh. "Lirasten." The hatchling said. "She says she's sorry." Claire interpreted patting the hatchling's head. It purred like a cat and the started eating the stew.

"Sorry if I seem paranoid."
No you're not, boss
Shut up, Loiosh
Vlad continued, as though the reptile hadn't interupted. "It's just that I don't know the rules of this world yet. And I'm very sensitive about what happens to my jhereg."
Aww, shucks, boss
Yeah, well you could have bloody well told me what she was saying. Or do you like making me paranoid?
I knew you wouldn't believe me if I told you, so why bother?
A point.
Vlad would have apologized then for carrying on a psionic conversation, but just then his new friend seemed rather busy. It seemed she too had someone to care for.
You know Loiosh, I will never understand why some people cater to the whims of animals.
You've said that before, boss
I know, and it's still true
Go to Deathsgate, boss
Vlad decided that he'd not antagonize Loiosh anymore, but he didn't want to bother the girl either, so he helped himself to the stew. It was quite good. Could have used some onions and a few other spices, but he hadn't been expecting Valabar's. Then he learned something interesting. The spell that Morrolan had used to help him use the language of this place was only good for the common tongue. This he gleaned from the fact that when the girl addressed her dragon? Hmm... That was interesting. Anyway, when she addressed the dragon, she spoke a language he didn't understand.
Clever, boss. If I had opposable thumbs, could I deduce like that too?
Sure, and then maybe you could do something about it.
Then of course, the baby dragon had to go and talk, which threw Vlad for a loop. Where he came from, Dragons, while intelligent and capable of psionic communication, didn't have the requsite physical attributes to actually talk. To top it off, the one word it uttered was in the same language the girl was using. He wold have wondered what it meant, but the girl saved him the trouble.
"Oh, sure, no problem. What's her name?" Vlad asked. He'd gotten and impression of a female, but he could be wrong, that happened once in a while.

I carried him everywhere with me for weeks until he hatched. And for months after that while he grew. I'll help you find your dragon." Boss, are you sure?
I know I'd want her help to find you. Then again...
Yeah, I'll remember that the next time I save your life."Loiosh'll help too." And with that, Loiosh took off, doing high, slow circles around the area. "If he sees anything, he'll tell me." A thought struck Vlad, almost hard enough to make him rub the back of his head. "Hey, do you have the same psionic link with Arya that I've got with Loiosh? Can you try it that way? If you can get contact with her, I think I can get a general area to look, if she can't tell you herself." For a witch and an assassin, he was awfully slow, he should have thought of that before.
