Are you sure? I mean, Light didn't seem entirely evil as Kira. Sure, a bit misguided, and his intentions went from somewhat good to a bit more power-hungry. But...

the hero has to give the villain a chance to redeem himself. otherwise he is good in alignment only and hasnt earned his exaltedness as a hero
