oggywoggy222 Durza the Shade oggywoggy222 But the mouthpiece is so SMALL! Plus, the mellophone's hell to march. Big flared bell... blaugh Is it really? Because it seems that everytime someone at my school wants to march, but doesn't play a marching instrument (other than french horn), like oboe, they play mellophone in marching band. There was a bass clarinetist who played Bb clarinet for two years then switched to mellophone, too. O.o That's...odd. And, it'd never happen at my school, since all the people that play oboe/bassoon play them as a secondary instrument, and started on clarinet. Well, except for our bassoon player last year, but he was drum major... <.< >.> Well, maybe I was exaggerating a bit; it doesn't happen very often, after all. One oboe I know was in guard her freshman year, switched to mello her sophomore year, and isn't even in marching band now because of tennis; another oboe played flute his freshman year, was seduced by winter drumline, and is in pit now; and there's the aforementioned bass clarinetist who played clarinet for two years, then switched to mello for reasons unknown. Maybe I spoke to soon. I don't know the personal reasons of the players and my director, but I thought I saw a connection. Now that the facts are all layed out here, I'm not so sure . . . confused

Skye: Do you know what hell it is to walk home with a French Horn case? Every flipping day?
Ary: I was just making all the sectional threads look the same, so it's [Section name] Section. Just for readability.

I play te horn and I love it. I'm not sure if I really want to do marching band in highschool if I'm going to have to play mellophone. One of the girls in my pointe class plays one, and she says it's the most annoying instrament she's ever heard. I'm technically the section leader right now, but competion's all of one other girl. It's not like it really matters anyway, for the moment it just means I have my pick of top or bottom line on split peices. I wish I could play something that roughly resembles melody. I'm stuck with harmony most of the time, which means I get to play the downbeat on marches. Woo...
