Trio reached out, patting the woman's arm. "Don't underestimate yourself. You never know what you're capable of until you try," she counselled, holding one arm open as Makana moved to settle on Trio's lap shyly.
Annora beamed at the giggle, her voice better even just for the short time she'd already been studying singing. Certainly she was able to keep completely on key with 'Itsy Bitsy Spider', at least.

The scowl remained firmly in place as Nai folded her legs under her, and in one fluid motion plopped down cross-legged next to the wagon and children, hands falling in her lap. "You don't get it." She glanced sideways at Annora, flicking a fuzzy russet ear in her direction. She seemed a sweet kid, and so did the cat-looking one. The blond certainly seemed to be a fine mother. Turning her gaze away from the children, she sighed and shut her eyes.
Well, it was doubtful if the tiny baby would have cared if she were a touch off-key. With another wiggle, she managed to free the other arm, and cautiously reached out as if to poke the singing girl.

Annora laughed, holding up one hand for the baby to catch. She'd played this game before, and recently, with her new little brother! When the song was done, she called Makana over quietly, pointing the girl out. "Lookit..."
Makana smiled shyly, reaching out a paw to delicately stroke the girl's hair. "Hi," she said, her voice a soft mewl.
Trio tilted her head. "So tell me what I don't get," she suggested, her smile fading into a more sympathetic look. "You don't think you'll be able to take care of her?"

Naien clenched her fists tightly and her scowl morphed into a snarl, a flash of sharp canines showing abover her lip. "Of course I can't! I have no money, no job, and I live damn near in the middle of nowhere!" She hadn't met Trio's eyes, instead casting her gaze down to the opposite side. She growled and cursed under her breath. "I don't even remember my mother, how in the hell could I be one to some kid!?" She took several deep breaths, and seemed to get a hold of herself. Her ears drooped, and she looked rather ashamed. "...Sorry about that. You don't need to hear my life's problems."
The girl let out her soft giggle again, and grasped onto one of Annora's fingers. As Makana touched her hair, she tried in vain to see the older girl's hand, resulting in her going adorably cross-eyed.

Trio blinked, her smile fading entirely as she nodded. "It's okay. Sometimes it needs to come out," she said softly. She hesitated, then tilted her head, not looking in the least afraid of the frustrated woman. "Haven't had any luck finding a job at one of the shops?"
Makana giggled softly, and Mouse peeked over the top of her pocket to also see the pretty girl.
"Etain'd like her," Annora decided, telling Makana.

Naien blinked as well, looking slightly confused, then she remembered just what she'd said in her anger. "...I guess I wasn't quite truthful just now. I wasn't really thinking the words through." Here she paused again, before continuing reluctantly. "I have a job, if you could call it that. But... It's really not the kind of thing to set as an example for a kid."
The girl really had no idea what the sisters were saying, but that one word had sounded rather interesting. She removed her hand from her mouth and made a soft little babbling noise, then reaching both hands (one rather slobbery) out towards the bigger girls.

Trio looked curious, glancing over at the kids before looking back at Naien. "What job is it you have?" she asked softly, pushing a little in the hopes of figuring out what to say to help.
Annora tilted her head, hesitantly taking the more slobbery hand, while Makana shrank away from it. But with that one taken, the younger girl was able to take the other. "You're pretty," Annora smiled softly.

Naien looked a little startled by the question, but answered anyways. "I'm a thief." She paused after that, glancing at the older woman with an eyebrow raised. "You're not a cop, are you?"
The little girl looked overjoyed, and giggled again, just a bit louder than before, and took as firm a grip as she could manage on the offered fingers.

"Not a cop. I run a couple of shops in Barton, that's all," she said, looking thoughtful. "You steal for someone else, or just for yourself?" she asked, keeping her voice soft.
"She's strong," Annora said abruptly, her voice loud enough to be heard by the two women. "What's her name?"

She nodded, apparently satisfied with that answer. She glanced at the blond woman again, this time slightly more closely. Most people didn't have such a gracious response to discovering her profession. "Just for myself, and a couple pets." She stopped to consider just how much to say. "Only small stuff, sometimes groceries when I can't nick anyone's wallet. Don't worry about yours though," She added, almost as an afterthought. "I do have some honor. You helped me pick up my groceries, after all." She glanced over her shoulder at the three children at Annora's first statement, but the second made her pause for a long moment, an unreadable expression on her face. "...I don't know. There was no note left with her."
...And it didn't look like she herself would be much help in that department, as she cooed and tugged gently on the captured fingers.

Trio smiled softly, nodding. What help could she offer that wouldn't be automatically turned down for pride? Was there even a worry of pride? She'd barely met the woman, after all. Instead, she simply said, "I'm not worried. Someone trusts you."
"Mama named me," Annora said, reaching out to tickle the little girl's cheek. "And Makana."

She simply snorted. "Then I return to my earlier statement: Someone's a moron." She glanced back at Annora again as the blue girl spoke, and this time when she replied she looked almost... sad? "I guess you'll have to find her mother then, to ask."

"You're her mama now," Annora smiled, ever helpful.
Trio's lips quirked, and she looked quickly away, not wanting her to see the amusement. "Look... do you happen to have a number or something?"

Naien sighed, and looked back at Trio. "She is your daughter, isn't she," she said flatly, turning away as well, to hide the smile that threatened to emerge. "Eh, there's a landline up to my place, but it's patchy at best. You can have the number anyways though." She started patting at her pockets, pulling a pencil from one. "Have a piece of paper? I don't think I've got any."
The little girl burbled softly, releasing Annora's hand in order to stuff her thumb back in her mouth.

Trio frowned, patting her own pockets for a few moments before shaking her head. "No... I don't usually carry much on me when I take the girls out," she admitted. As she was telling Naien that, however, Makana jumped up, moving to a tree and scratching at some of the bark until a nice piece came off.
"I'd say to contact Jaden... he's the one who gave me my harp... but he's been...," how to put it "...under the weather lately. I thought I could go by there at some point soon and get him to call you and talk to you?"
"Mama, mama. Use this to write on," Makana said, coming back with the bark.
