Oh my gosh. I tried miso soup today and it was AWFUL. It was more than an hour ago already, but I can still sort of sense the taste in my mouth and I cringe every time. The only time that a taste lasted this long was a few years ago when I tried a vomit-flavored Bertie Bott's Jellybeans. That...lasted for weeks.
Mum says she likes miso but not miso soup. How different are they?

Well, I guess with regular miso you dont have the taste of all of the other stuff that's in the soup. I've never tried miso any other way, though.
I didn't mind miso soup at first, and I still think that when it's salty enough it's ok. But when I was in Japan I had it at my host family's house every single day. That kind of made me hate it. I really dislike the consistency of the tofu as it gets soggy. Blegh.
In response to the 'natto' topic...ew. My Japanese teacher let us try some one time, and it was undoubtedly the most disturbing experience I've ever had with a food.
My friend said that her host father ate it every day. Like, bowls and bowls of it. I just can't imagine liking a food that much. Especially something so...gooey. Ew.
