Fairgrass Sometimes. On the rare occasion, I'll use a pencil to lightly mark a passage that I need to use later, and then I erase it. I have, however, started putting my name inside my books, as I've been lending them out. But aside from that, the only book I've ever really written in is my bible. I don't know why, but I never had a problem underlining passages and making notes in that book. My Bible has all kinds of passages highlighted. Mostly in the book of Revelations... because prophecies about the end of the world are just that cool that you want to be able to find them quickly! whee

I highlight my books sometimes. And I only write if I need to make a note, or highlight a word to look it up.
I let other people usually do the same.
But when it comes to dog tagging a page and folding the corner, I only allow that with mass market paperbacks.
Sometimes I write my name on the side that has the page edges, so that if I lend it and someone forgets to give it back...at least they will always remember it was mine at some point, and not theirs.

This a*****e boy in my science class scratched the cover of a library book I had with pen once. I was pissed. Lucky it came off.

I hate when my book gets tarnished AT ALL! However, sometimes I will write in mine if I have a very strong thought or emotion...O:

I don't let other people write in my books(unless signing the yearbook counts) but I do write in my books or bend the pages to mark and stuff only when the book is for a test at school and if I don't like the book. Good thing is most books I have to read in my school are lame so I don't feel bad about writing on them. But if it's my book and I like it I won't write on it. It damages the book in my opinion and as I can see in the opinions of many here as well.

I'll highlight my Bible, and i'll havta write in my college school books, but other than that, I don't even let people dog-ear pages in my presence. I carry around extra bookmarks just in case. They work too, because I caught my AP English teacher dog-earin' a page...he tried to get off the hook by sayin' it had already been like that...but I convinced him not to do such horrible things to poor innocent books...

I only write in books that I'm using for class. Usually I only use pencil to mark quotes or write a comment, lecture note, or some thought I might use in an essay. If the book I'm studying is one I really like and want to keep forever, I use Post-It Notes to mark certain passages and write my comments on. Since my Bible is much loved and important to me, I wouldn't dream of making marks in it.

Fantasy Moon I freak out when people write in my books. I use to write my name on the inside cover until I got stickers that say "From the library of ....." Once a high school girl friend thought I had one of those pens with erasable ink and she scribbled along the margin of my copy of Stephen King's The Gunslinger. I was not pleased. Same here. I had those personalized stickers, and in my Harry Potter paperbacks, I wrote my name in the back of each one. That was ages ago.
I can't stand when people write in books, and its not erasable. And by erasable, I mean I can't see ANYTHING left over.

No way do I let people write in my books. Someone did one time, I was so mad. Yearbooks, yes, write all over them, (ok, no, do not scribble on the pictures or write bad words all over your enemies).

Sometimes I like writing notes in the margins and underlining passages, especially when I'm reading a book for school. I love buying used books and finding someone else's notes written in them - apart from the fun of imagining what they were getting at, you can sometimes get a new perspective on a book that way. biggrin
What I hate, though, is random scribbling or doodling in books. If it has nothing to do with the text, it shouldn't be there.
Nameplates are fine, though I never use them as in my large book-reading family books are communal property and even get mailed from one household to another. Also, I think it's nice when books you get as gifts have a little message in the front cover from the person who gave it; it's a nifty reminder of where you got it from.

I freak out when people write in my books. Mostly, I just don't loan them out anymore. The few that I did came back disgusting. I will however give them a ride to the library to get a copy of the book. It's easier on everyone that way.

First of all, I hate being separated from my books, so I try to loan them only to the closest friends. If one of them would harm them in any way, I think I would ask for a new one.

I can't stand it if anything happens to my books. I only lend them out to my best of friends, but I always get really upset when they return them with a page folded here and a bend there. I definitely do not like writing in my books.

If they want to write on my book, I just get them their own copy. neutral The only time I can stand to have a book with highlighter and pen marks on it is when I got it for 50 cents. Even then, if I find another copy that doesn't have marks on it, I buy it.
