Mweko's lips curled at the scent, catching it just as Shiri had. Wonderful. She would get a chance to see her teaching put to test.
"Good." The word fell off her lips like a breathy sigh. "Flatten out, and advance. Slowly," she coached, watching the cub intently, and then following the trail between herself and the mouse with her eyes. It seemed near enough to be caught, but far enough away for Shiri to really try in order to catch it.
"Remember; your elements," she whispered.

Smiling broader when Mweko responded, Shiri lowered her body once again and began forward towards the mouse. She could hear both Mweko's breathing as well as the footsteps of the mouse and as she advanced, she was able to cast aside all other sounds. It took a great concentration, but the small lioness was incredibly determined now.
The mouse paused and Shiri stopped where she was for a moment. Had the mouse heard her? The space between them had been closing and now it was still. The mouse didn't move and Shiri found this to be her chance.
Using the force of her back legs, Shiri pounced forward with as great a force as she could muster. A pair of small, strong jaws, clamped down and the lioness eyes went wide. She had managed to catch the small mouse!
Lifting her head, Shiri had the small mouse hanging from her mouth. Smiling as best she could and speaking awkwardly, she offered, "Midga' mwant home?"

Mweko just laughed at Shiri's jumbled speech, shaking her head. This cub was just adorable, and it made her heart warm to have helped. This would make a great story to tell her own cubs. None of them had been taught to hunt yet, but she figured they ought to start learning soon. She would never wish the kind of predicament Shiri had been in on her cubs.
I must be a good teacher, she thought proudly. Her eyes sparkled in delight at Shiri's enthusiasm.
"Very good job. I couldn't have done better myself."
She truly was an excellent hunter. And now, Mweko knew, Shiri would never have this tribulation upon her again. She had done her job.
(~ messy FIN. xD)
