Shiri could notice the strange atmosphere between the two. It was slightly more comfortable since they had begun walking, but only because there would be no awkward silences in which they would need to look away to keep from staring towards one another. The cheetah had seemed so happy, warm and filled with life when Shiri had met her and already it seemed the cheetah was being forced to grow up beyond her age. Shiri felt awful for what she unconciously was doing to the other. Having been abandoned as a mere cub, she understood this perfectly and did not wish the same fate upon the pink colored cheetah.
Hearing the answer from Chuakari presented a new topic and Shiri quickly snagged it to make the mood less depressing. "Games? Sounds like fun.." Shiri was offering a white lie to the other, but it did not seem too awful to keep from saying. Feigning interest, she pressed the topic on, "What types of games?" The conversation between the two seemed hollow, but meant so much more to Shiri than she would allow herself to comprehend. She was grateful for anyone who could put up with her awful disconnection.

Kari's attention was not entirely on the awkward or hollow qualities of their conversation, and instead was more focussed on keeping the conversation going as long as Shiri was not annoyed with her. Even the feigned interest in the topic was good enough to keep her going. She did not realize that what Shiri was doing was exactly what she was doing, trying to keep the other happy.
"Games are a lot of fun, if you find someone who likes to play," she said matter-of-factly, "I like to play hide and seek, but I'm not very good at it. You'd be good at it because you look a lot like grass." She nodded brightly, "But there's tag too, which is lots of fun.."

Shiri felt a small smile begin to creep to the corner of her maw as the conversation turned lighter and more pleasant to be a part of. Though she still would not consider the brightly colored cheetah her friend, Chuakari was certainly becoming someone she might eventually feel that way towards. Turning back to look in the other's direction, Shiri offered a genuine smile and contind to speak, "You would think i'd be good at hide and seek, but really i'm not.." She admitted with a light laugh, "..I always step on something and give myself away.. I suppose I won't be the best huntress as I get older as well.."
Thinking the idea of hunting might be a bit too much for the other, she returned the direction of their conversation back to games. "Tag.. Fun as well, though I can't say i've played it too much..." As sad as it may have seemed, Shiri did not play very many games due to the fact she never seemed to be in the company of a single being for more than a few days time. Glancing to Chuakari, the lioness wondered who she played with. "..where is your family..?" She suddenly asked, not realising the possibly consequences of what she spoke of.

Though it was hard to tell how genuine the smile that Shiri gave her was, Kari took it as a good sign. She seemed to be in a somewhat better mood, even if you could only tell by how chatty she'd suddenly become.
"Yeah, I do that all the time too!" Kari exclaimed, nodding proudly at having found something they have in common, "It's not a big deal, if you get far enough away that you aren't really heard. Hunting's not easy, it's better just to wait for someone else to hunt.."
She trailed off at that comment, leaving space for Shiri to ask about her family. Kari's expression flashed sour, but quickly returned to a kind of apathy, "I don't know, I stay here by myself."

By the gesture in which Chuakari spoke of hunting, it was clear that she had been around others, but just whom, Shiri was not certain of. The mere mentioning of family seemed to upset the pink colored cheetah and Shiri felt a shiver suddenly run down her spine. Had the other questioned her, she might have had a similar reaction, if not worse.
"I didn't mean.. to hit a nerve." Shiri's voice was very softly spoken as though she was certain she upset the cheetah. Unsure of how to fix the mistake she made, the female merely stopped and looked out towards the sky. Already the pale blue had faded into hues of red, orange and yellow and the sun was slowly setting.
When it seemed the lioness was no longer going to speak, she added, "..I'm alone too."

"You didn't!" Kari objected at once, more concerned with Shiri being sorry than the fact that the lioness may actually have touched a nerve. The small cheetah watched the silent Shiri, not wanting to interupt whatever she was thinking now. She offered a small smile and stood across from her, waiting patiently.
"But we're not alone right now," she answered quietly. It was a friendly gesture, hoping to make her feel less alone. They weren't alone now, and though it may not be the case all the time, they did have company once in awhile.

Shiri felt a shiver run down her spine as the small cheetah offered more cheer than Shiri could even fake. Offering another genuine smile, the lioness nodded. Though she attempted to keep sadness from taking her over during the conversation, she could not help but feel a hint of pain within her chest. More importantly than the fact that Shiri had been alone all of her life, there were others that had also been alone.
Looking over Chuakai once again, Shiri decided it would not be too bad to open up once in awhile. The conversation the two had shared had certainly been interesting to say the least. Chuakari had become someone Shiri could speak with, despite the constant worry of upsetting the other. Pushing the sadness from her mind, the lioness spoke quietly, "You are right.. We aren't alone right now. I should learn to appreciate that more often.."

"That's right," Kari replied with a quiet, bright tone. It was a step in the right direction, Shiri was being more accepting and that was a very good thing! The small cheetah was smart enough to see that she needed to be careful in how she acted here.
"It's nice not being alone sometimes," she continued, "Sometimes you find really nice people.."

Shiri continued to smile. It was surprising to see such a young cheetah with some bold, intelligent statements. The lioness released a short laugh at the thought. It was as though the pink colored feline spoke directly from her heart and never really thought deeply as to what she was saying. This was a great talent and Shiri often wondered why she thought so intensely on matters and hid her true feelings away.
Lifting her form and releasing a short yawn, Shiri began to look about. Despite their wonderful conversation, the lioness was certain the two would need to go their seperate ways eventually. "You are correct once again, Kari.. I have met many wonderful lions-and cheetahs as well!" Her voice was lighter and more carefree now. "I should, however.. be on my way to find a place to rest this upcoming night.."

Kari looked over at Shiri with wide, purple eyes, waiting for her reaction. The lioness was obviously more comfortable with her now, and to the cheetah that was no small victory. Considering how their meeting started, it was much better now. She beamed at her new friend.
"I've met lots of wonderful friends, too," Kari agreed, and continued hopefully, "Like you!" The small cheetah giggled, and almost missed when Shiri suggested that it was time to leave and find a place to stay for the night.
"You could stay with me," she blurted out, despite being in, or on the verge of joining, a cheetah coalition that wasn't too keen on lions she would do her best to make sure Shiri was happy and liked her.

Shiri felt a smile remain on her mouth, stretching at the sides and feeling strange in the company of what seemed to be a new friend. Though Chuakari always seemed at ease and happy since they had met, Shiri could sense that even Kari had released some of the tension that had once been between them.
At the mentioning of being called a wonderful friend, Shiri couldn't help but laugh. Certainly Kari had met other cheetahs or lions with much better temperments. More guilt came over the lioness as she realised she made each and every new friend of hers go through quite an amount of torment before she even thought of trusting them. She was glad Kari had decided to stay around.
Shiri had not even thought of the possibility of staying with Chuakari. Towards the end of each night, the lioness always parted, no matter who was keeping her company at the time. Allowing the invitation to replay through her head over and over again, however, the lioness nodded her head. "That would be wonderful." was all she could say.

It surprised Kari to hear her offer get accepted so happily, she obviously did do quite well, then! She smiled genuinely at her friend and did a small circle around. They'd gone for a walk, now they would go back together! What a pleasant surprise.
"This way, then," she announced happily and lead the way back to the watering hole they'd met at.
